June 17, 2011

Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses) has joined Charlie Hunnam in director Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, reports Variety.

The Legendary Pictures project sees a future Earth defending itself from attacking creatures. Day will play a professor in the film.

Travis Beacham wrote the script for the movie, produced by Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni. Filming will start this fall.

Pacific Rim is aiming for a summer 2013 release.
Oh hells yeah.

I'm honestly not going to get excited for ANY del toro movie until I see production photos or a trailer....that way I know its really happening.

If this movie succeeds then I hope we can get Mountains of Madness up and running again.

Goddamn, it's depressing when I think about it.

What's also depressing is that Universal is keeping the script and concept arts for it and won't even let del Toro shop it around to other studios.

At least is good del toro is back doing another movie, even if we have to wait two years to see it.

Good point, but del toro had a part in it as well, it was his idea to try to make a movie out of At the Mountains of Madness and he did helped out, both for the script and the concept arts. It didn't work out but it's still possible that Universal could make the movie, but with a $100 million budget and that's rated PG-13.

i rather whait 10 years. yes 10 years to get del Toro's 100% vision. he needs to whait until he has a BO hit or he whaits until CGI gets cheaper for a hardcore big scale horror movie.

Yes, that's true. This is why I hope Pacific Rim is successful, so he has a movie that does good, BO wise under his belt. That'll be a step closer to getting a project he wants to do easier off ground, and then eventually ATMOM I hope.

i think del Toro hoped that Hobbit would big a sure hit and would give him the power to make Mountain. then we know what happened with Hobbit. Cameron jumped in to help him get the budget and control. but it was a to big risk for Universal. and i understand Universal.

so now IMO del Toro is making this movie only to make Mountain plus to just make a movie. he is afterall a director. hes last movie was in 2008.

it doesn't really inspire confidence that the lead writer on COTT is writing this. Infact, it seems strangely odd that this little piece of info would be included in a PR release... you'd think that the connection to COTT would be something that everyone in the movie industry would try to avoid.

Since the movie did good in the box-office, I guess they think the opposite. COTT was a mess in every department but if the script is not good for this, then del Toro could polish the script if that's case.

And Elba? ****ing A.

Actually, the script that made it to screen wasn't written by Travis Beacham (I remember reading it somewhere, just not sure where). His original script was actually very smart, full of great character moments and, for the most part, honored and respected the original film as well as the mythology it was based on.

But, for whatever reason, in the post-production process, someone hired a couple of other quacks to rewrite the script to make it more digestible for the average moviegoer. But, of course, the final product ended up being poorer for it. Funny how that works.

If Beacham's original treatment of COTT is any indication of the quality of this film, it's going to be quite the ride.

EDIT: What the person above me said.

I'd rather see Kasdan's script being adapted for COTT, but oh well.

I have to admit, I haven't seen any of Charlie Day's dramatic work, so I'm having an incredibly hard time picturing him in a more serious role.

I'm guessing Hunnam and Elba are doing American Accents as they are both British.

So who is the lead Elba or Hunnam

Either way it's great to see not well known/HUGE actors getting major roles in a project like this
