Del Toro is helming Pacific Rim, a monsters vs mechas action movie being made by Legendary Pictures. The studio has set a July 12, 2013 release.

Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day and Idris Elba are in various stages of dealmaking to star in the production, based on a script by Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans). The film will shoot in Toronto later this summer.

Legendary is known for co-financing many projects on Warners’ slate, but Pac Rim, which is how the project is known at the studio, will be the first film in which the company is actively involved in its development and production.

Fingers crossed guys. Looks like it's pretty concrete.

Lets hope for a little Ron Perlman flavour in there as well!

It's always good with a new del Toro movie, so I'm glad that we will get one within two years.

I'm guessing that given how far off the release date is there will be a mountain of post work.

I fully expect this to be the size and scale of Avatar.

They're giving Del Toro a massive budget, and considering what he does on a measly one, this may very well be the one to watch.

It's gonna have to be PG-13 and have tie-ins obviously. The studio won't go for less.

Well Avatar had an entire planet's worth of species, plus a full futuristic military. But hey, with talented people bigger is better. Lets hope that it does out-epic Avatar.

obvious del Toro will not get the same amount of money that Cameron got.

whats important is that it makes enough money so that he can do Mountain of Madness.

Avatar cost $250 million. People are saying Pacific Rim could be up to $200 mill.

Avatar cost 250 on Boxofficemojo. since i know for a fact that a lot of movies cost more then Boxofficemojo says i know that they are a lot of times wrong.

Avatar looks more expensive then 250. so i dont belive this number. i could writte 5 pages right now why it is impossible for Avatar to cost less then 300. but why even bother?

fact is ( yes FACT) that del Toro's budget for Pacific Rim will not come close to Avatar's budget.not that it matters. del Toro knows how to make movies with small budgets. with 200 millions he will be able to make a huge movie with a lot of action.

Yeah, yeah you always seem to know the facts dark_b.

Box Office Mojo also overshoots too. Superman Returns, The Mechanic, Robin Hood and some others I know are too high on BOM.

You could write about why Avatar costs more than $300 million, but why bother? James Cameron himself said it's that much and he's that kind of guy who would brag about his budget being more than $300 million.

Even with a lower budget, Del Toro can squeeze his pennies far better than Cameron does.

Robin Hood is to high? why? because you belive this magic 150 million number that studios throw out to the media?

Cameron was always praised how he can use the maximum budget. but because Avatar had a cliche story we will know say that he doesnt know how to spend money. is this how this will work? right?
Cameron would admit that the budget was higher? do you think he is stupid or what? no director and producer would ever admit the real number.
when Disney and Bruchimer admited that POTC3 was around 300 that means that it was even higher. they will never admit the real number.

and about del Toro. del Toro will only be the best director who knows how to spand money and direct until his movies underperform. the second hiss movie will brake BO records he will become a hack. because this is how the internet works.then everyone wil jump on him. we need to hate directors who are successful.

Warner Bros even toyed around with the idea of buying the Gods script (which is believed to be further developed) for their epic-style green screen remake of Clash of the Titans. The studio announced tonight that The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier has been hired to helm the Lawrence Kasdan-scripted remake. And now both studios are racing into production to be the first to the silver screen. War of Gods is scheduled to begin production by year’s end, and Titans was only greenlit after landing Leterrier.
Warner Bros Has One, Maybe Two Tarzan Pic Swinging From The Vine
Quote:
Warner Bros has been trying to get its Tarzan movie up and running for several years. Now, I'm hearing that the studios is trying again, and word on the vine is they might well commission two separate scripts that'll be written simultaneously. One will be by Adam Cozad, a rising scribe whose recent work includes the Jack Ryan reboot and Archangel, the pic that has Tron: Legacy's Joseph Kosinski attached. I also hear that the studio is talking to Craig Brewer about doing a different version of the picture. This has been done before on big pictures, and usually the studio makes a decision on which way to go when they both come in. Sometimes, the other script is the next movie in the franchise. But it certainly gives hope that Tarzan will be swinging in the jungle before too long. Cozad's repped by ICM and Gotham Group, Brewer by WME.
Did Pacific Rim start out as script for LP's Godzilla reboot?

I personally believe (don't grill me) that Del Toro is a better director than Cameron. And, given the nature of this project, this has serious potential to be better than Avatar by leaps and bounds.

This is instantly on my most anticipated films.

Meh. Del Toro has yet to have a movie as good as T2, Aliens, or even T1 to me. The Hellboy movies are good but it's not like they were that good.
