I thought McAvoy did great in this. I really loved the interactions between him and Fassbender.

Nope. I love it

In fact, watching it on FX right now. I gotta say, I like how Xavier's not-so-squeaky-clean portrayal in First Class (the way he controls people's minds, the way he urges Mystique to look "normal") fits into the way he controversially manipulates Jean Grey.

But they were all already dead, weren't they? If he had them killed now it would be different.

Yeah, they were already dead. Xavier saved everyone by burning a few dead bodies. It's obviously not the ideal scenario but it was the best thing Xavier could have done at the time.

Yes yes, I've said that. I'm just wondering if anyone felt bad about it.

I think for me, the reason I was apprehensive during the pre-production was because unlike Fassbender, I couldn't picture him as the young Patrick Stewart version of Professor X.

I had never heard of Fassbender before FC but when they announced his casting and I saw a picture of him, I could totally buy him as a young Ian McKellen.

McAvoy...not so much.

But he really knocked it out of the park. He was OUTSTANDING.

Yeah, they don't really look like their older counterparts (Fassbender kinda looks more like McKellen when he has the helmet on), but it doesn't really matter all that much.

The only thing I'm interested of knowing is if they're going to truly get Xavier bald in the sequel or will they make it a gradual thing or perhaps a part of the story..

Did anyone notice the dialogue that Xavier used to pick up chicks in the film?

Some of it is from the opening voice over to the first film...

You gotta be pretty dumb if you think they were going for physical similarities.

Agh, but his performance was amazing. Any doubts about his appearance should have been wiped away. He was a stunning Charles, he carried the role really well and in turn he was one of the main keys to the film.

And yet, Ewan Mcgreggor just coincidently was able to pass himself off as a younger Alec Guiness. Frankly I find you to be very naive to think that an actors physical appearance has little bearing when it comes to casting. I'm not saying it's everything but...it's something.

I didn't say it was super important for them to physically look like their older counterparts, simply that if they got actors that did, it was easier (during preproduction) for some to see the progression of the character from a physical standpoint.

Oh and you better check who you're calling dumb...

There was a physical resemblance between McGregor and Guiness. Probably part of the reason they cast him. Nice try, bud.

I love it too. Prof. X has always been the obeject of mockery, because it seems that killing people and being a general badass or a conniving prick is the way to go. That's how the readers will think "wow, what a cool character!"

I love Wolverine, but I wouldn't love him so much if it wasn't for Charles Xavier. If not for Chuck's dream he would be just an ordinary killer, which never interested me at all. Maybe I'm old fashioned when it comes to believe that some people can be - despite human flaws, of course - indeed good-hearted. That was Xavier in First Class to me.

I'm just imagining Xavier ending his voiceover in the first film with "That line used to get me so much ***** back in the day."

I loved the scene where he was talking to Moira at the bar.

I just loved how he was talking about that mutant stuff and he was so drunk. He was really charming.

i was thinking of something funny that might work to show his balding, if they ever want to touch on it in future XMFC sequels....IT WAS CEREBRO! The very early version we got in this may have had some unexpected side effects. that thing was primitive.

James McAvoy was amazing in this film. The scenes with him & Fassbender were some of the best in CBM history, IMO.

More gems:
-Charles telling Raven to put some clothes on as he freaks out. Just McAvoy's comedic timing there, classic.

-McAvoy's eyebrow raise at Fassbender/Erik before seeing the Real Angel.

-Tearing up. Who would have thought we would have superheroes tear up together over a memory?

-The haunting image of Charles fallen self after the bullet. I was startled at his sky-blue eyes here. Yikes.

Just so glad he took this role!
