But there's the fallacy--not only does no one know how old Cyke/Jean or the rest will be portrayed in the movie, we can't say the same about Xavier either. They may be doing some heavy aging on McAvoy throughout the film--we just don't have enough details to jump the gun on anything yet.

I realize we don't know anything, but aging someone to that extent usually consists of some extra skin patches and gray hair, which I think is safe to say they'll have to do without the latter. This casting just has a Magneto movie feel. They should have just stuck with that premise, but they probably felt it wouldn't have been as successful as a film with a plethora of mutants, so they merged the projects deciding that covering a span of two decades in one movie was safer and cheaper than two separate films. I would have just made this Magneto's movie, then come back a few years later to do a FC trilogy, almost as a redo of the entire series. Doesn't make sense to come back to X-4, because whomever they cast now will be way too young for X-4 even 5 years from now, and why bother recasting these roles for the third or even fourth times?

No. They were doing First Class AND Magneto, until Singer came on board and decided to make the films focus be Xavier and Magneto.

This entire film is is Singer's brain child.

I disagree. They probably felt Singer would only be involved in one film for now, and they trusted him to combine the projects. They had a script for both and then they decided to merge to story lines for whatever reason. I doubt Singer was just doing his own thing and ignored those scripts. There was probably collaboration to unify it into one story. It's not like Singers team wrote the original screen play to this. They probably took input from both scripts.

Josh Swartz had a script solely about young X-Men. When singer came onboard he brought his own treatment.

Do we have confirmation that he completely reworked the script? Because I don't believe he would have signed on to direct if they didn't have a working script that he liked. This current premise is eerily similar to what we were hearing about the Magneto spinoff, so it is not inconceivable Singer took some ideas there. This isn't 100% Singer's vision like you make it out to be. He's been pretty busy with the Jack Giant Killer movie so I doubt he's the sole architect of this.

Pretty much. Before Singer pitched his version of First Class, Josh Schwartz's FC script was more of an X-Men in High School movie aimed at a teenage audience. Singer had a much different take on the material and felt that the focus of the film needed to be on the genesis of Professor X and Magneto's relationship, which is pretty much the film we're getting now.

Josh Swartz had a script. When Singer came onboard he had his own ideas, so basically Swartz script was tossed. Singer wrote his own treatment, and then hired Jamie Moss to write it. This was all back in December.

Even so, it's not out of the realm of possibilities that Singer liked some stuff in the Magneto script and based some of his story off of that. He may have had those ideas all along, but at that point, X-Men seemed like a distant memory in his career. Not to mention that this may still be a high school movie as well. It can still go both ways.

When was he asked about the Magneto movie? Not that it is that important. It's just assumptions at this point. I doubt Swartz's script was completely disregarded and placed in the scrap heap, or that Singer always had this vision in his head, but was never allowed to implement it until now. He had to have had something to work with since it was Fox that was pitching the movie to him. The idea that he just came on, started completely from scratch, and worked his own magic is giving him way too much benefit of the doubt.

I am not saying he didn't, but it was Rothman that had to reach out to him. I would think Rothman gave him some options to work with like Magneto and FC, then after taking a look at all his options, Singer came up with this.

I think Bryan was having a meeting about various Fox projects outside of X-Men, if I recall.

Yet Goyer remains as one of Nolan's right hand mans behind his brother... I'm too fond of Goyer but he's got to be doing something right. Bottom line is, I believe Rothman was high on a FC movie, it intrigued Singer just as it did the rest of us, and Singer tweaked and reworked what they already had. He simply could not have had the time to completely redo everything with his own original input considering his schedule and other commitments.

Singer developed and pitched his treatment to Fox. Jamie Moss wrote the script based on Singer's treatment. There is more time for Singer to do that than there is for Singer to take two entirely different scripts and mold them into one.

I'm glad Singer pitched his own treatment to Fox. Schwartz was a busy guy and he'd been working on his version for over a year. Nothing was happening. Then Singer came along and got the ball rolling.
