Another song that fits Ultimate Batman, particularly with the identity crisis I've got him going through in the early days of his career...

Got a couple more selections:
CREATE-A-HERO: Wonder Boy (Kit Carson/origin): "Everyday" by Carly Commando VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:
This song always gets me, and it really fits for what I was doing with Wonder Boy when he first debuted: someone who had once been part of an incredible, amazing world, and now had to live every day without it. Wonder Boy (in costume): "The Ecstasy of Gold" covered by Metallica VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:
First of all, one of the greatest metal bands of all time, covering the climactic anthem from the greatest Western of all time? **** yes. Secondly, this fits with the idea of Wonder Boy getting back into the habit, remembering how to kick ass the way he used to, rediscovering the old magic, if you will. By the way, I know it's been a while since I've played him, but I'm starting to think this may not be the last you've seen of my created sidekick-for-hire. CREATE-A-POST: Like I'd said, on top of certain characters, there are songs that remind me of certain 'scenes' I play out in my head. And the Create-A-Post thread has two of my favorites: "Date Night:" "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd http://forums.superherohype.com/show...&postcount=115 VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:
This song encapsulates pretty well what I was trying to get across here, a guy who more than anything in the world just really misses his best friend. It also has the distinction of being the only song in existence that I have never been able to listen to without crying. "The Lost and the Found" : "We're In This Together Now" by Nine Inch Nails http://forums.superherohype.com/show...&postcount=141 VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:
When you think about it, the relationship between Eddie Brock and the Symbiote is really a ****ed-up love story, the two getting together and staying together for all the wrong reasons. And this is my concept for how the two find each other. |

I was considering putting in some of the lyrics to Rhinestone Eyes by Gorillaz in my next post in the CAH RPG...

Ultimate DC
Harvey Dent/Two-Face: "Barbastella" - Hans Zimmer/James Newton Howard This may be the saddest piece of music I've ever heard, and every time I hear it, I picture Harvey lamenting the loss of the life he could have had. And then, right at the end, it takes that sharp turn signifying the rising of something new out of the ashes.

[EDIT: Fixing a bunch of broken links now]
A few more picks, these based more on "scenes" that I want to play out, rather than actual characters. Some are definitely in the works, some are just little pipe dreams that I may do in Create-A-Post at some point. "World of Heroes:" The Return of General Zod: "Mars, Bringer of War" by Gustav Holst http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0bcRCCg01I This is kind of a catch-all for any militaristic villain, and for good reason: it's one of the all-time great "oh crap, some serious **** is about to go down" songs. Perfect for a godlike warlord like Zod. Especially around the 4:25 mark. The Rise of Darkseid: "Victorius Titus" by Elliot Goldenthal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TvOaMlKI-E Although the one I picked for Zod is a great war-march song, I don't think anything really comes close to capturing that same spirit for Darkseid as well as this song, the opening theme for Julie Taymor's adaptation of Titus Andronicus. The Battle With Darkseid: "The Dark and Endless Dalek Night" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aA4qShHzYc Tell me this is not the most bloody epic thing you've ever heard. Superman Defeats Doomsday: "The Surface of the Sun" by John Murphy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QahzbgUVwk The climactic theme of the sci-fi cult hit Sunshine, though you might better recognize it from Kick-Ass (edit: it's also just recently been re-used in The Walking Dead, this one fits what I envisioned for the last few desperate blows between Supes and Darkseid, played out in slow-motion, the rest of the world watching in anticipation and dread to see if he can really do it. The Death of Superman: "Vale Decem" from the Doctor Who Soundtrack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26AQq-lbcvI (Video contains HUGE spoilers for the 'End of Time' special of Doctor Who) It's a fantastic song for sending off someone like Superman, a man who has seen everything and done everything, and has finally come to the end of the most incredible journey ever taken. Heroes vs. Villains: Norman Osborn, Director of SHIELD: "No Chance in Hell" from 90s WWF http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI1NrcnIH00 A psychotic power-mad billionaire with absolute free reign over the most powerful military force on the planet, and using it to rub it in the face of the hero? How can I not immediately think of this song? Ultimate DC: Kryptonite/The Manhattan Project: "The Daleks" from the Doctor Who Soundtrack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDaEQYEV-TA (I really like the Doctor Who soundtrack) For pretty much the whole first Season of Ultimate DC, Lex has been hinting at something called 'The Manhattan Project,' something that, in his mind, will completely re-shape the world to a way he sees fit. Naturally, when the confrontation comes, Superman will be there to try and put a stop to it, only to be brought to his knees by a certain glowing green rock. So what is the Manhattan Project? Guess you'll have to read UDC to find out. All-Star Marvel: The Rise of SHIELD- "Prelude to War" from the Battlestar Galactica Soundtrack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlcUwUwjLrs In the All-Star universe, SHIELD is currently an underground rogue organization, working in the shadows since the 1960s. They are incredibly powerful and far-reaching, led by the fanatical war-dog Nick Fury. This would be the song of their ascension from the shadows and finally stepping into power once again. All-Star Spider-Man, Season 2: "The Running Free" by Coheed and Cambria http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRt82NJP96k At this point in Peter Parker's life, all of the pieces have come together, and Spider-Man isn't just some street-level vigilante who beats up muggers and makes life hell for the mob, but a fully realized superhero. He's got the costume, the gadgets, the moves, and most importantly, he's got the love of his life Gwen Stacy at his side. Yessir, things are going quite well for Pete. Which, of course, means that all sorts of unpleasantness is just around the corner. Rhino: "Face Fisted" by Dethklok http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvLDLusWXBI Pretty straightforward: it's a song about a big stupid guy beating the crap out of someone. That's Rhino in a nutshell. Mysterio: "Mars Attacks!" by Danny Elfman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blXMW...eature=related Assuming I go with the version of Mysterio where he's pretending to be an alien invader, this one goes along just perfectly with ol' Fishbowl-Head. Vulture: "On Leather Wings" from the B:TAS Soundtrack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5nMDgVuz3o Though it was technically written for Man-Bat, I think it works just as well for Vulture, the same kind of 'death from above' feel I want to come across with him. The Green Goblin's Reign of Terror: "Let Me Hear You Scream" by Ozzy Osbourne http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1esPluKPQo Aside from sharing pretty much the same last name, this song immediately calls to mind someone like the Goblin for me, someone who's enjoying every second of killing his way to the top of the criminal food chain. Final Battle with the Green Goblin: "All Along the Watchtower" cover from the Battlestar Galactica Sountrack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ka_sHy9cVH0 Spidey learns the hard way just how easily his life can come undone, as a crazed Norman Osborn holds Gwen above the George Washington Bridge. As they fight, Peter comes to realize that the only way he's going to be able to save the girl he loves is to kill the Goblin...and he's not sure he can do it. The Death of Gwen Stacy: "Doomsday" from the Doctor Who Soundtrack (again) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8DURP5xQCA This is the absolute lowest point in Peter's life: he's bleeding to death from his wounds, he's killed his best friend's father...and the love of his life is dead before him. I think the song pretty perfectly encapsulates the sheer hopelessness he would be feeling at this point. Gwen Stacy's Funeral: "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4OLQB7ON9w As Peter watches his first love being buried, it's also an end to the first and most hopeful chapter of his life. The starry-eyed idealism that used to drive him is gone, as he begins to blame himself for Gwen's death. In his mind, Spider-Man died on that bridge right along with her. This song is the sort of 'farewell to innocence' that goes with this. Spider-Man No More: "Unforgiven III" by Metallica http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-0kfOxSSa8 His spirit broken and his heart filled with guilt and shame, Peter Parker throws his mask and costume away, vowing to walk away from the dangers and heartbreak of the superhero life. Meanwhile, Harry Osborn has lost his mind, swearing vengeance against Spider-Man for the death of his father, while the city's criminals and villains begin to crawl out of the woodwork with no hero to keep them in check. That's where this chapter of Parker's life ends, setting him up for even more difficult battles ahead (In the RPG, this would be the setup for Season 3). More to come!......maybe. There was a storyline i wanted to do when i first picked up Sabretooth in Allstar, but I've written myself out of it by changing the history of things that the story depended on.
Sabretooth Rebelling against Erik Lensher/Magento: The Pretender by Foo Fighters And as for Weapon X: Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap by ACDC

So I've been RPing here on the hype now for four and a half years. In that time, I think Edward Nygma in UDC has been my favorite character to play. So many layers to work with and so many different ways to play any given situation. Here's a playlist I like to listen to while I'm writing Nygma posts.

Nice to see this thread's back to life. I've found a few more selections myself.
ALL-STAR MARVEL: The Avengers- "Overture" by Daft Punk (from the TRON: Legacy Score) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8OELzmpgZo This is a really great and appropriately epic song that captures that 'call to adventure' spirit for a truly momentous occasion--say, a gathering of the Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Captain America- "Farewell Apollo" by Bear McCreary (from the Battlestar Galactica Score) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoUEgtPE3UU I really do love the BSG soundtrack, mainly because Bear McCreary is a frakking awesome composer. While bagpipes and Pogue's whistles may not be typical fare for an all-American hero like Cap, I think this song is a very fitting theme for just about anyone who fits the 'war hero/knight in shining armor' character. It's especially fitting for All-Star Cap because he's going through the same thing the Apollo character did in BSG: having to achieve greatness because of the high expectations set by his father, and in so doing become his own man himself. Cyclops- "Butterflies and Hurricanes" by Muse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDTICbjVDuI Another great "call to action" song, it really fits for someone like Cyclops, who's got to step up and lead the few loyal X-Men through incredibly difficult circumstances while still facing lots of challenges to his own beliefs. Oh, and while I've already put a song down for the Death of Gwen Stacy, I'm replacing it with "The Sun's Gone Dim" by Johann Johannsson, because it's about a thousand times more heartbreakingly depressing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iv4CuIIspdE ULTIMATE DC: Dick Grayson- "The Line" by Bear McCreary (also from the BSG Soundtrack) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAjfL...eature=related This is a great atmosphere song for how I picture Grayson as he secretly trains, pouring his body and mind into honing himself into a weapon for his obsessive but misguided crusade against the man Dick believes killed his father: the Batman. There's a real sense of drive and grim determination, but also one of sadness to it, and frankly it sounds like it should be in a Gotham City story somewhere anyway. Hope its all right if I throw my own soundtrack into this mix.
I have three pieces of music in mind for each character, which I refer back to for inspiration related to a specific facet of their development. In each case, I was reluctant to post a video because its the lyrics that make the music connect to the character. The imagery that comes with the videos detracts from that I think. Lor-Zod (New Ultimate DC) Salva Me by Libera [link] This is Lor-Zod's overall theme song. When I need a piece of music that just sums up the character, this is what I turn to. Despite being hailed as the Superboy and everything he's done to save the space shuttle or get involved in the Sta'rro arc, the fact is that Lor-Zod is a lost, little 8 year old boy. At the heart of his story, he is the one who is looking to be saved. I also like that the lyrics invoke a lot of imagery related to the sky and blinding light - which makes me think of Lor-Zod flying into a sun lit horizon. Ryuu no Shonen (aka 'The Dragon Boy') by Joe Hisaishi [link] Probably the closest thing I have or use to 'fight music' for Lor-Zod, this piece (which is from the soundtrack to Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi, or 'Spirited Away' in America) is simultaneously regal and ominous. The shifts in tone paint a picture that doesn't come across as necessarily being 'good' or 'evil', but it definitely very proud or arrogant. And that rings true for the character. Kobol's Last Gleaming by Bear McCreary [link] You'd have both understand the translation of the lyrics and also the basic theme of the core Superman mythos to get the connection here. That basic tenant that gets repeated that 'the son becomes the father'. In the case of Kal-El, its clearly that he is pulled into Jor-El's legacy. But Lor-Zod's legacy is a very, very dark one. So we know the man that his father is. So, if the son becomes the father then... this has happened before and it will happen again. This is the absolute core of the character. Is his fate his own? Or is he bound by a dark destiny to walk the road to Perdition laid down by General Zod? Damian Wayne (World of Heroes) Sleep by Poets of the Fall [link] Similarly to 'Salva Me' with Lor-Zod, this serves as the general theme song I use when I need a song that just sums up Damian Wayne. He's a headcase. He's the sum of everything he has seen, everything he has been taught, and everything he has done as a result of both. I imagine his mind is tortured by the fantasy of what is a 'normal kid's life' and his, plus the mixed messages he gets from Bruce and Talia, and his own attempts/failures at being Robin (which is, quite frankly, something he's not - which is that he isn't a hero, he's not out to save anyone. Except maybe his own soul). Crashing Down by Heather Dale [link] In less than 4 minutes, this song encapsulates how I see the relationship between Damian and Bruce Wayne. Damian looks up to and respects his father, but he doesn't understand him or why his father is who he is. And its that crucial piece about justice and morality that sets Damian and Bruce at odds to one another. Creeping in My Soul by Cryoshell [link] Whenever I need a song that speaks to Damian as Robin, this is what I turn to. Despite the appearance of upholding his father's morality and vision, in actuality this is Damian falling further into darkness. Because he's confused and he's trying to be different, and its all falling apart on him. Now he's got the League of Assassins and his mother, all of whom raised him, as an enemy. And then he's got his father, but he doesn't find acceptance there either. So even while he might be the 'Robin' in Batman & Robin, he's no one's teammate. He's on his own. And he's digging his own grave.

*ahem*
Allow me to use my amazing powers of thread-necromancy to bring this back from the dead! For behold, I have new theme music to force upon you all! ULTIMATE DC: The Justice League- "Every Star, Every Planet/I Am the Doctor" by Murray Gold (from the Doctor Who score) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emy8E...ature=youtu.be A great, energetic song that has a really nice superhero quality to it. Also note that its time signature is 7/4 rather than your standard 4/4, which is fitting since the classic incarnation of the JLA was always the "Big Seven." Raven- "The Mystic's Dream" by Loreena McKennit http://youtu.be/zbKcKn-LOSE Really cool, mysterious and 'magical' sounding song that really fits the UDC incarnation of Raven, especially once she gets her powers. Is sort of calm and low-key, yet at the same time really energetic and exciting, which plays up the whole 'still waters run deep' sort of thing I want to do with Raven as she has a more prominent role with Robin and eventually the Teen Titans. UDC Season 3 Villain- "Abraxas" (from the TRON: Evolution videogame score) http://youtu.be/YZ1_ekiFnfQ I've got a surprise in store for the end of Season 2, bringing a major villain to the forefront in Season 3 and hopefully getting a massive arc going. Won't say who it is just yet, but this is the song I've been listening to to get me 'pumped' for it, and the sound of it should be a pretty good clue as to who it is. "Batman" vs. The Syndicate vs. Batman
http://youtu.be/cudvIWp89nk When Bruce finally tracks down his imposter, who is revealed to be Bane, as he's trying to massacre a group of gangsters on the Gotham City docks. Hilarity ensues. Superman's Nightmare http://youtu.be/oVsPzNa6rmw When Superman's Dr. Destiny-induced nightmare reveals that all of his fellow Justice League members are each a villain from his rogues gallery masquerading as his friend, betraying him and proceeding to wage war on the world as Clark is forced to watch. Doctor Destiny's Theme http://youtu.be/WpzfV8OtLHI Yeah, I seem to be getting my music from Max Payne games, but screw off, they have good scores! ![]() The Parasite's Theme http://youtu.be/TRj-lk5C7Cg Bane is Here http://youtu.be/IGzJFJRkmCE Superman's Theme http://youtu.be/iZrojb2NhfM Yes, the extended theme music from STAS. It's my favorite Superman score (yes, even more than Williams' stuff) and I honestly can't think of a better theme for the character. Superman vs. Lex Luthor http://youtu.be/P3L9n-HG5xY From when Superman and Luthor finally confronted each other at the finale of UDC Season One, where it soon escalated from an argument to the abduction of Lois Lane, to Lex's plan to take over the world, to the first reveal of kryptonite in the UDCU as Clark is forced to watch Lex's plans unfold. Roll credits. Bane vs. Batman http://youtu.be/BlcJ-fDmDhA Both for when they fought at the Maroni Wedding and for when s**t will eventually really hit the fan. Quote:

Ha. I've actually thought about utilizing a bit of the Inception score if I ever included music in my posts.

Believe me, I find no shame in pulling from the same soundtrack well many times. Hell, I could score pretty much everything I ever wanted with just Doctor Who, Tron Legacy, and Battlestar Galactica over and over.

The Parasite and the Stryker's Island Breakout- "Monster" by The Automatic Automatic VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:
If you want an bunch of crazy people running around, go to Arkham Asylum. If you want a group of villains who are organized and know how to work together, go to Iron Heights. But, if you just want an army of monsters with enough raw power to crack the Earth in two, look no further than Stryker's Island in Metropolis.
