Default DTL Season 7-Week 7

The rules:
This thread will be in use for 5 days. Days 1-3 are strictly setup time for owners to post their battles, plead their cases, tell us their team’s strategies, breakdown the match ups, and do whatever else they can/want to do to try and convince you that their team would pull out a victory inside of 2 posts. Please, let the owners do this on their own with no help. Debating cannot begin until both owners post battles.

On Day 4, I will post and tell everyone that debating may begin. Each owner has one post to rebut their opponent's match, and another to correct any issues of their opponent's rebuttle. One 2 rebuttle posts are allowed for each opponent.

On Day 5, I will post and tell everyone that voting can begin. Any votes cast before I open voting will not count. Look over the matchups and read the strategies, and take into consideration how in-character each character is. Afterwards, use your best judgment to decide who you think has the best chance to win the match. (Note: The length of a writeup is at the discretion of the owner. Do not punish owners just for having a shorter writeup.)

To vote, rate each team's writeup and arguments between 1-10 (0 is reserved for non-writeups). The team you think will win should get the higher score (tie scores are not allowed). Remember to vote for all matches or your votes will not count! The teams with the highest point total at the end of the 7th day will get a W while the other will get an L. (Equal scores will result in a tie.)

Pre-Battle

everyone knows what to expect from MJ(in which point only MM,NC and X-man(with no powers) doesn't want it to happen(stryfe could careless. its for the betterment of the team)).

so, as the night wears thin. MM finally drops his attention enough for MJ to drop a basilisk field, jump into him, again multiply(filling up the room) until there is no room and try as NC might. hes no match for a all the MJ's for long and get absorbed himself

Pre Battle

So it’s a special week and everyone is an open book to everyone else. Splendid! But now the question is, who can utilize that the best? Honestly, both sides can… and that sucks. Batman and Rulk with that kind of information is dangerous for my team, but then again, Onslaught, Deathstroke, and Sinestro with that kind of information is also dangerous for Nightwing’s team. This really could be a huge plan fest that could take pages and pages to write, and most likely it’ll be so planned that nothing will go as planned, but nonetheless, I mostly just want to state that I don’t think either side has an advantage when it comes to strategy. How does each team work together? Again, probably no clear advantage there. I don’t see Batman and Captain Marvel working well with Gorilla Grodd, but not to the point of being a huge risk factor. Now my team being full of villains and semi-villains works for me, and with three of them having partnered up before, it all works out fairly well. There might be some ego here and there, but overall I think they’d work out.

So let’s just get on to the battle shall we?

Battle Time

The firey pits of Apokolips is known to all thanks to the theme week so they can plan for it.

Knowing their opponants I see both Onslaught and Gorilla Grodd protecting the vulnerable minds of their team. I also see Sinestro gathering the Odd Alliance in a yellow orb for protection as they figure out their opponants. Reaching out with their minds they each find the other team protected but I think it’s safe to say that Onslaught is a much more powerful telepath than Grodd (besides the Uber/Medium rank that would support that, there’s also the fact that Onslaught was powerful enough to breakthrough the telepathic defenses of Jean Grey like it was a toy). And so while I think it may be a bit of a challenge I can see Onslaught breaking through Grodd’s protection. Now, he will not play with this yet or make it known that he has broken the defenses, he’ll just find his hold as the teams approach. This may be a strategic match, remember.

With the Sinestro dome there’s not much HOTNA can do to break in, and so it’s a calm beginning. No rushing, just the wait. They find one another and greet each other. Once the Odd Alliance location is determined I see Grodd staying back due to Damask’s mental skinning powers destroying telepaths, but the rest advance. Once face to face they all smile, the dozens of strategies chiefly laid out by Batman and Deathstroke running through their minds, and with Deathstroke’s command through Onslaught’s telepathic link to the team, Sinestro’s shield is dropped and Dr. Light acts.

A blinding light issues until all is whiteness. Anticipating this Batman had a protective deal in his mask prepared for it, and so as it activates and all are stunned for a moment on both sides, Batman charges forward and lands a swift kick to Light’s chin. However, as quickly as Batman moves, Deathstroke also knew his opponents and had planned for him to be protected and to move. And so with a blind swing his sword digs into Batman’s side, slicing off the utility belt, and then as soon as this is accomplished Onslaught reaches out and telekinetically knocks HOTNA away, in attempts to separate them. Anti-Venom digs his claws deep into the ground to keep from flying away and Batman digs a baterang into the ground as well (again, they anticipated a telekinetic attack). Captain Marvel and Rulk, however, were caught too quickly unaware after the blinding light and are blown further away.

Deathstroke – “Proceed as planned.”

Onslaught, Sinestro, and Dr. Light take to the skies after those who were scattered as Deathstroke and Damask race for Batman and Anti-Venom before them.

Deathstroke & Damask vs Batman & Anti-Venom

Batman dives at Deathstoke but tucks and roles to dodge the assault and pass the oncoming mercenary and makes a drive for his utility belt. Damask is too far away and aims for Anti-Venom. Deathstroke turns and pulls out a tube with a dart inside but before he can fire it five white tendrils break through the ground and wrap around his wrist, neck and legs, breaking his aim and lifting him into the air. Anti-Venom holds him while Batman retrieves his belt, but Deathstroke does something within his glove and an shock quakes through his costume, sending a deadly shock through the tentacle-fingers and back to Anti-Venom. Brock cries out and falls back, retracting his fingers, freeing up Deathstroke. He holds up the dart and fires but Batman regains his belt and lifts his cape at the same time, deflecting the dart and giving him back his toys. However, as you may have noticed, Damask was never stated as going against Anti-Venom, and this was for a reason. She charges Batman and as she begins to reach out for the mental skinning, he drops some gas pellets and dives into the cloud. Damask mentally skins people, but she is not telepathic, and with Batman hidden in the clouds, she cannot target his mind.

Note: As I said, this will be a strategic match and while it can be assumed that Batman and Deathstroke would target each other, they both knew that they wouldn’t do it directly. Deathstroke prepared for Anti-Venom (and others) and Batman prepared for Damask (and others), and so, neither of these initial assaults worked quite as planned. Damask receives a baterang in the temple and is taken out of the fight for a short bit and the shock that hit Venom jellied Anti-Venom’s suit for a moment, making it hard for Brock to control it, his own muscles spasming and contracting. Both are temporarily out of the fight as Deathstroke dives into the cloud and Batman meets him for a very physical fight.

Dr. Light vs Gorilla Grodd

Dr. Light is on his way to his planned fight when Grodd leaps and intercepts him from the air. With his mental powers blocked by Onslaught Grodd is left with the physical approach. The already sore Light falls to the ground and Grodd holds a gun to his head, but before he can fire Light blasts draws the light of the heat around him and near fries Grodd, making the gun melt into his hand and he falls to the side screaming. Dr. Light considers finishing Grodd but remembers the plan and reluctantly departs. He has to be quick to his target. Grodd is left to recover.

Onslaught vs Rulk

Onslaught finds Rulk, or rather, Rulk finds Onslaught. There was a slight contingeant in plan, but Rulk ruins this by targeting Onslaught. Now, this is the flaw in Rulk’s plan. With everyone being an open book, it became known that Hulk once beat Onslaught so hard that it broke his armor, letting his essence free. However, they also know that this is a young Onslaught without the reality altering powers, and so if Hulk could break the powerful Onslaught, then Rulk should have the power to do this as well. However, the fault is Rulk’s pride. The angrier Hulk gets the stronger Hulk gets. The angrier Rulk gets, the HOTTER Rulk gets. So while he and Hulk are similar, and Rulk likes to think himself superior to Hulk, this is one situation where that will cost him. He will physically battle Onslaught, and he’ll do a good job, but Onslaught will take it for a bit. I’d imagine that he’d telepathically find it difficult to claim Rulk’s mind, and so it’d fall to a Might vs. Telekinesis and Magnetic Might battle. Note: Rulk could have some guns that could help but knowing of Onslaught’s magnetic powers they’d be useless, so he’s relying on strength. I won’t go into detail but I see it ending like this. Rulk is bleeding yellow and Onslaught’s armor is cracking, but not enough. Rulk will come in for a strong blow and Onslaught has had enough. He reaches out and grabs the Rulk in two massive hands, and using his telekinesis to their strongest, he begins a rib at Rulk’s mouth and in the rest of his cuts and rips the red monster in half. Now, I see the hot blood burning Onslaught pretty good, but nonetheless, in the end, Rulk is dead and Onslaught is weakened. Onslaught then reaches out with his mind to find his target, hoping it isn’t too late to stick with the original plan.

Sinestro & Dr. Light vs. Captain Marvel & Gorilla Grodd

Dr. Light arrives and sees Captain Marvel and Sinestro already going at it strong. He waits for the planned moment.

Sinestro first came to Captain Marvel and fired bone made arrows of yellow light, but Marvel dodged them and few straight at Sinestro who dodged him. Quite an aerial battle would ensue but still the sign wouldn’t come. Sinestro entraps Marvel in a yellow prison but still the sign wouldn’t come. There would be no invasion of the mind from Onslaught, forcing Marvel to utter his word, transforming him into Billy, and no second word to create magical lightening for Dr. Light to take control of to help skewer the Rulk.

Seeing that something is wrong, and that Rulk is nowhere to be seen, Dr. Light cloaks himself in invisibility and races for Captain Marvel. Sinestro fires a yellow lightning bolt at the Captain, who dodges it, but Dr. Light grabs this and controls it back until it strikes Marvel in the back. Not magical, but it’s still enough to hurt. As Marvel turns to see his onlooker, again, Sinestro encases him in a yellow prison. Marvel broke this previously due to his tremendous strength, but this time Dr. Light uses his light manipulation powers to further enhance the strength of the Yellow construct. Marvel struggles until finally doing what they had hoped.

“Shazam”

The lightening bolt fires down to free him (as he had little choice left) and shatters the construct. Billy falls a bit and he shouts the word again. This time, however, Dr. Light pulls the lightening bolt from its direction so that it misses Billy and slams into the ground, though a sliver of it remains now hovering above Dr. Light’s hand. Billy, unfortunately, falls quite a distance to the hard ground and is rendered unconscious. Being one to be thorough, Sinestro fires a yellow stake and pierces the boy’s chest.

From high in the air Dr. Light looks around. He doesn’t see Rulk, but finding Grodd’s smoking body not far away he smiles and fires the small lightning shard like a sniper riffle, as it blows through the head of the Gorilla, killing him.

Deathstroke vs. Batman

Now these two in a fight could really go either way, especially with prep time. Yes, it’s taking place in smoke, and Batman is continuing throwing these down to keep himself in the smoke away from the possibility of Damask awakening. The advantage here is to Batman, however, as he planned this location of attack, inside the smoke. Deathstroke can counter this and do well, but ultimately Batman has better preparation for it and I can see the fight falling to his advantage. The fight comes close and Batman begins laying the smackethdown on Deathstroke until fate steps in to help. As Deathstroke is decked and falls, he hits something hard and realizes that it is his knocked free shotgun, and so as a Baterang flies past his head from the misty distance he sees where it returns to and fires. The shot rings out and hits Batman in the chest. This will do nothing more than wind him, but the sound startles Damask to consciousness and as she shoots up she sees a silhouette in the gas stumble back with the force, and so the chance of Deathstroke falling on the gun puts Batman in view of Damask, and with that Damask reaches out with her mental chains and digs into Batman’s mind. Now, Batman has a strong mind, but Damask’s mental skinning powers are enough to damage the Shadow King, and so Batman would be no match.

Batman screams and falls back as the cloud finally begins to dissipate. Deathstroke sees that Damask has served her purpose and turns to see Brock still frozen in a seizure, his costume loose and gooping. And so another fire of the shotgun ends his suffering, and thus, ends the match.

Winner – Odd Alliance

Prep-Time

I'm going to have to be very brief with this one.

In prep-time, there's really not much to plan out when teaming up. There almost couldn't be a more even matchup in some of these pairings.

If there are two teamups, it'll be Ion and Supergirl, which Kyle and Shanzar will try to avoid (well, Kyle will try to avoid, and Shanzar probably won't care), and Iron Man with Arsenal. This is fine because Dick and Jamie will probably stick together seeing this teamup as inevitable.

I just don't see Tony or Roy teaming up with Taskmaster. Similarly, Dick and Jamie probably don't want to be around Proctor.

Taskmaster will probably be the only mystery on the Ringers side, while the same could be said for Shanzar (unless somehow Tony knows about him). Not knowing about Shanzar is going to be much more devastating then not knowing anything about Taskmaster.

Apokalips provides plenty of places for the team to hide, which is just fine with Batman, and likely with Taskmaster as well. It also provides a good bit of interesting technology for Tony to try and use, and for the scarab to scan and adapt to or copy.

There is also no sun over Apokalips, which means as a taxing fight drains Kara, she has no way of recharging her batteries. Probably not going to a be a significant issue in this fight, but just in case it does go for the long run, it's a point against her.

So how do the battles breakdown? Kyle and Kyle can pretty much take their fight all over the planet. Shanzar's magic against Kara is just not going to be fair, even if she tries to team up with Kyle. Batman and the Beetle will tag team against Iron Man and Arsenal. While Proctor and Taskmaster hunt each other down.

Battle-Time

Kyle versus Kyle is the fight that really doesn't have an end in sight. Maybe one Kyle has an advantage over the other, but who? GL Kyle has more experience, used to by Ion, and is a more skilled ringwielder. Ion has Starheart power combine with his own, and doesn't need a ring to translate his will into form. Ion could try and take over Kyle's ring, but Kyle's willpower is at least as great as Ion's, so that might not go anywhere. And Kyle could just as well try to reclaim the Ion power from his younger self. There's no clear cut winner here.

Supergirl could try and stick with Ion, forcing Shanzar to cope with the speed of their battle all over the planet. But, of course, magic is one of a Kryptonians greatest weaknesses. Shanzar could just summon Kara to where he is and bind her in magical chains, calling forth his demons to rip her to shreds while he watches gleefully. Or, he might do it himself. Kara might be able to make a fight of it, but a spellcaster of Shanzar's power is more than a match for her.

(What if the matchup goes the other way? Kara's got a good shot at taking down Kyle. But Ion is not a spellcaster, and he'll be lucky if all Shanzar does is pull the magic from him and make his defeat quick. Then he'll be free to take on Kara.)

Proctor is far more than Taskmaster can handle. Sure Taskmaster can copy any fighting skills Proctor may throw down, but he doesn't have the Ebony Blade. Sure Taskmaster has other weapons, but Proctor has eye blasts and, more importantly, is immortal and can heal. And can teleport away if he needs time to heal. But he probably won't need to since he can just scramble the chemicals in Taskmaster's brain and drop him rather effectively.

The match between Beetle, Batman, Arsenal, and Iron Man should be rather epic. Of course, Dick and Roy are going to want to fight each other. They wouldn't have it any other way. They pretty much know all of each other's moves since they've essentially grown up, trained, and fought together since kids. If there's any advantage here, it's the ever present utility-belt/prep-time combo. Of course, Roy has a nice ranged attack. Just like Kyle and Kyle, this is a fight for the ages. Dick has probably beaten Roy more times than not, but that honestly doesn't mean much with these two.

What would turn the tide in this match is help from a friend in armor. Unfortunately for both, those friends are busy trying to deal with one another. I think the scarab has Tony's tech outmatched, but Tony's been doing this for so many years against foes he should rightfully lose against. How balanced can a fight get?!

Well, not balanced for long once Proctor arrives. He could easily take Arsenal down why they're fighting, either by scrambling him mind or just teleporting in and running him through with the Blade. Neither option will make Dick very happy, and one will instantly have him trying to kick Proctor's ass. In the former, it's now Proctor and Batman joining Jamie against Stark. In the other, Batman will be fighting Proctor. Either way, the important question to ask is...what's up with the ubers?

Kara will be laying somewhere broken on Apokalips, possibly less than alive. If Shanzar is smart, he'll be sure not to let Kyle know this when he comes and helps him against Ion. I don't think Ion will hold up against these two. And when he falls against a pair that mimic his own Oan/Starheart powers (and even better his power in the magic department), he'll be overwelmed. He'll be hard pressed to keep his constructs up against Kyle's, and still ward off magical and even demonic attacks.

With the ubers out of the way, Iron Man is going to be on his own. I could see Jamie going down, if only temporarily. Batman and/or Proctor may also be out of the fight because of each other or Tony. But against Kyle, Shanzar, and whatever other opponents may be around, his armor isn't going to last long. Kyle can beat him into submission, while protecting himself from attack, and Shanzar's magic will make short work of Tony's tech.

Now, if Tony is able to incorporate some Apok technology into his system, he'll put up a better fight. Probably actually giving Kyle a run (if he didn't have backup). But too much tech (like a motherbox), would make Tony an uber, so he's still going to be limited in what he can manage to do.

Is this going to be an easy fight? No. But the advantage Proctor has over Taskmaster, and the HUGE advantage Shanzar has over Supergirl makes this fight Chaos & Order's to win.

(hmmm...what ever happened to being brief?)

Prep-time

Well as we all know this week is ‘Know-everything-about-everyone-week’ or Undisclosed week for short. But lets be honest in this match up it wouldn’t really benefit HOTNA or the Odd ones. Now there is a nice little strategy running through my mind which, after having a brief chat with Rulk, he is aware of this now and is more than willing to put this into effect. Now in terms of how my team will play along together. Captain Marvel and Batman would be able to reason with Rulk. He’s an intelligent army strategist and will know exactly how to utilise a team to his advantage to win. Gorilla Grodd on that level is also highly intelligent and knows that should he step out of line he’s got to answer to Captain Marvel, or worse…Batman.

With Brock, again he will be able to work well in a team however his rage may get the better of him and the HOTNA will need to prepare for that should it get out of hand.

So back to the plan. Grodd will provide some form of mental block on his team in particular Rulk as he is the key in this battle for one purpose…destroy Onslaught. The rest will fall into place as you will read in the battles in the next post…
Enjoy

To Be Continued…

Oh and incase you’re wondering I am aware that I said I spoke to Rulk. This happened. Ask him. He’ll tell you.

Battles

Rulk Vs. Onslaught

Within seconds of the battle ensuing Rulk is bounding across the battle ground and heading straight for Onslaught. Sinestro and Dr. Light are sent spinning as the behemoth slams into the ground causing a rippling earthquake. Demask and Deathstroke split from the group aiming for their intended targets.

Grodd uses all his mental skills to shield Rulk’s mind from Onslaught. He knows he doesn’t match up but he doesn’t need to hold it for long. Just long enough for Onslaught to be dragged into a physical battle with Rulk. Rulk is pure energy and heat. Onslaught is psionic energy and capable of energy projection. Rulk grabs at Onslaughts armour. The mutant tries to reach into Rulk’s mind. This normally would be difficult but Grodd’s intervention makes it even harder so the two Ubers begin to trade blows. As Rulk gets madder the surrounding area gets hotter, hotter than the spewing lava from Apokolips volcanic eruptions. Onslaughts armour starts to weaken. Rulk can take a lot of punishment but its not without its own disadvantage. The hotter he gets the weaker he gets. Rulk smashes his hand into Onslaughts chest and grabs Xavier. The huge hands wrap around his torso. Onslaught tries to blast Rulk but this just strengthens him as he absorbs the energy. Rulk lets out a roar as he tightens his grip. The flesh beneath his hands begins to blister as Xavier yells out in pain. He releases a massive mind blast which sends both Ubers hurtling across the battle field, neither of which are able to recover from. The badly blistered mutant has suffered punctured rips and lungs, whilst Rulk has passed out through exhaustion and the mind blast. The mind assault ruptures Grodd’s link to him and nicely in time too as Dr. Light comes hurtling across the sky towards him.

Dr. Light vs. Gorilla Grodd

Grodd reaches into Lights mind as he nears and very quickly possesses the villain. Now in his control Light is left to watch as his body is manipulated against his will…

Captain Marvel and Dr. Light vs. Sinestro

Sinestro is holding Marvel at bay. Shazam is hammering wall upon wall of yellow energy but isn’t making any headway to getting near the former Green Lantern. Sinestro sees Dr. Light closing in on him. Unaware he has been compromised and wary of being out numbered Shazam is poised and braced for a dual assault. Sinestro fires yellow construct spears at Shazam only for them to change trajectory and hurtle towards Dr. Light. He absorbs the energy along with the glow of Sinestro’s ring. Even the Corp member is surprised by this. His yellow aura drops and he finds himself falling towards the ground, however Marvel intercepts him and, at great speed, grabs him by the arm. He crushes the ring on his finger and spins Sinestro in a tornado like spin. He launches him hard into a large factory style building. The impact crushes his bones and causes them to crumple on themselves. His alien anatomy is shredded inside him as he has no protection from the impact. Marvel flies away from Dr. Light.

Batman vs. Deathstroke

Batman has decided to take on his protégé’s former enemy. Slade knows he will have a job on taking down Batman but he is waiting for Demask to dispose of her opponent. The two begin battling, both martial art skills are pretty much a match…

Demask and Dr. Light vs. Gorilla Grodd and Anti-Venom

Demask sneaks up on Grodd. She reaches into his brain with a psionic blade. This ruptures his hold over Light and also renders him unconscious. She turns only to come face to face with Brock. She tries to reach into his head with a blade but his pre-cog ability gives him enough warning to leap out of the way. He launches webbing at her mouth and nose blocking her airway. She scratches at the symbiotic mess stuck to her face but can feel her head getting dizzy. As she nears fainting a bright light appears before her. It’s not the tunnel to heaven though it’s Dr. Light. He has managed to regain control of his body. He is emitting a powerful light which causes the Symbiote to coil and retract causing great pain to Brock’s body. He turns and runs towards a nearby building. Light uses his piercing aura to remove the alien from Demask’s mouth and nose. She takes in a huge breath as the blinding light dims. She rubs her eyes to clear the dots and feels something moist splash against her face. (not what you’re all thinking) She opens her eyes and focuses to see Dr. Light being raised in the air. The Symbiote has taken control of Brock’s emotions and rage has over come him. He rips Light’s arm out of its socket and throws his body to the floor blood gushing out of the wound. He turns to a terrified Demask who crawls away from Anti-Venom. His massive jaws spread open as he screams and moves in for the kill on Demask. When he’s finished there is little left to identify the assassin.

Batman vs. Deathstroke

Slade soon realises his team mate isn’t coming to his assistance and knows he has to take Batman on his own. Although he puts his all into Batman takes him down. First he disarms Deathstroke from his sword with a well placed batarang. Then he notices a knife sheathed in Slade’s legs. He takes a step towards Wilson and lowers his body, this causes Deathstroke to do the same and as he does, as planned, he grabs the knife. He brings it up towards Batman who puts his plan into motion. He allows Slade to stick the knife in his arm as he punches. He turns his arm removing it from Slade’s hand and then leans forward. Slade punches Batman twice, once with a left then a right. As he punches with the right Batman leans back causing Slade to become top heavy. Batman flips backwards onto his other arm and brings his foot hard into Slade’s chin. Slade falls back and Batman lands on his feet instantly pushing off from the ground and spearing him in the gut with his shoulder. He slams hard into the ground and Bruce brings an elbow down to his face. Slade feels his jaw break under the pressure. Batman brings another elbow down into his ribs, winding him. He makes his final move with a hard punch to the face rendering him unconscious. He pulls the blade out of his other arm and drops it next to the last member of The Odd Alliance and the HOTNA remain victorious.

Prep Time:

Full disclosure week, so a lot more planning goes into this week. As such, Arsenal, Iron Man and Taskmaster shine in planning out the team strategy. The strategy agreed upon is to have Kara take on the Green Lantern with Ion against Shanzar. Arsenal and Taskmaster are going to take out Batman, while Tony takes on the Blue Beetle. While they are planning, Ion plays back recordings of Bruce Wayne as Batman to give him a good move set to use against Dick.

Battle:

Kyle and Kara v. Kyle

Kara comes out the gate heading straight for the other team's Kyle. He sees her coming and due to the planning of Grayson expected her to go after him with the magic user in the mix. He encases her in a green construct of a vending machine and turns his attention towards Ion. The two throw construct after construct at each other, all the while trying to one up each other. Just as Kara finally breaks free her prison, and barrels into the Green Lantern, Ion manages to use a giant monkey shaped battle mech to body slam his counterpart into the ground near a fire pit.

Kyle and Kara v. Shanzar

The two then turn their attention on Shanzar. Kyle attempts to distract him with green Hooters girls, but to no avail. As Kara tries to fly into him, the sorcerer attacks her with a mystic lightning bolt, popping her head like a prom day zit. His attention focused on the Kryptonian just a moment too long however, as the next thing he knew, he was overrun with an army of three hundred green midget Spartans. As he watched the magic user succumb to the vast horde of little people, Kyle shouts triumphantly, "This IS SPARTA! B***h."

Arsenal and Taskmaster v. Dick

"What happened short pants? Bruce croak?" "Don't ever talk about him with such disrespect Speedy, or I swear I'll rearrange your face so that only your dentist will recognize you." "Bring it pixie boots!"

The two old friends immediately came to blows. It wasn't the first, nor probably the last time that this had happened. It was a good equal fight, but eventually Dick got one through that sent his long time teammate and friend sprawled on the ground. He turned just in time to see Taskmaster waiting for him. As good as Dick had fought against Roy, he wasn't prepared to see his own mentor's moves coming at him, and Taskmaster quickly came out the victor.

Taskmaster v. Proctor

Taskmaster stands over his fallen enemy just a moment too long, before Proctor teleports in front of him. Without a moment to react to these developments, Taskmaster puts up his hands to no avail, as he catches an energy bolt to the face.

Iron Man v. Blue Beetle

Tony goes after the Teen Titan right from the onset of the fight. Any other time he'd like the opportunity to examine the kid's armor, and find ways to work its features into his own, but there wasn't time for that now. Tony and Jaime fought, giving each other the best they had from repulsers to plasma cannons. Finally Tony unleashed a blast from his chest beam that sent the teenager hurtling back towards the surface of Apokolips.

Iron Man and Ion v. Proctor

Finished with their own opponents, Iron Man and Ion go after the remaining team member of the other side. Proctor dodges out of the way of a charging Iron Man, using his ability to induce pain through the chemistry of the armored man's brain. As Shellhead struggles with the immense pain, Proctor unleashes an energy blast on him, frying some circuitry long enough for Proctor to unleash a killing blow, but not in time to avoid a swarm of green wasps unleashed by Kyle's Ion powers. In the end, Kyle stands as the teams lone survivor, but more than the opposing team had.

STORYTELLING TIME

The fire pits of Apokapolis.

“Now this is a world to my liking,” Kang the Conqueror comments. He has already sent out a number of data collecting devices, to gather information. His teammates are far less enthusiastic about the environment. In fact, the Flash is down right displeased with it.

“This place is evil,” he says, recognising the planet as Darkseid’s.
Lighting a cigarette with one of the flames, Hunter smiles. “And what are we?”
Before the Flash can say anything, five new flames sprout from the ground. In them, the members of the opposing team are depicted.

Stryfe
X-Man
Mountjoy
Nightcrawler
Multiple Man

At the same time, the team is hit with every little piece of information there is that exists on the opposing team.

A devilish smile curls Kang’s lips.

TEAM TACTICS

Okay, everybody knows everything about the other.

BATTLE TIME

This is going to seem like a cop-out, but I’m going to give you a little mathematical formulae: Kang the Conqueror’s time-spanning resources + White Wolf’s Wakandan technology + their smarts + Silver Surfer’s matter-manipulating abilities + Flash’s speed to put it all together = power inhibitors made to match members of the opposing team.

Telepathy blockers are a given, so Stryfe and X-Man will have to rely on their telekinesis. They would hate each other and would never work together. It’s easy to split them up. Then it’s just a matter of getting close enough to put the power inhibitor on them. Not a problem when you’ve got someone that can go at the speed of light. Flash could also mess with their brain chemistries.

And just for the sake of argument: Silver Surfer and Flash would be able to take these two without the inhibitors – it’s just the easiest way. Silver Surfer has taken down a godly Cable, a cheap knock-off like Stryfe wouldn’t pose much of a problem. Similarly, the Flash is way to fast for someone like Stryfe or X-Man. Even if they manage to throw up a TK shield in time to protect themselves, he can come at them from a thousand different angles or vibrate through them.

But wait, you say, doesn’t the opposing team know everything about Jailbait? Yes, they do. But they haven’t got the smarts or the resources to do anything with them. Multiple Man’s a film noir detective, Mountjoy’s a thug/hitman and Nightcrawler is a soldier. They’re no geniuses and have practically no resources. Stryfe and X-Man are similarly, not comparable on a tactical level when it comes to a time-travelling dictator and the foster brother of the Black Panther. The only resource they would have is Apocalypse’s celestial technology and Poccy himself doesn’t know how to operate all of it. Technology, by the way, that Kang has too.

Okay, so Mountjoy will absorb Multiple Man and Nightcrawler – he wouldn’t really, but that’s AS’ usual strategy. No way these guys would allow it to happen. Still, you’ve got a multiplying Mountjoy with teleportation abilities. On the other side, you’ve got an untouchable ghost and a man that can go invisible. Oh, and Kang the Conqueror. Sure, Mountjoy can multiply, but he can’t even track these guys. The team locks on to the prime figure and POW! It’s a clean knock-out.

What if we don’t go for this standard tactic? Nightcrawler and Multiple Man can’t hurt the Gentleman Ghost. He can hurt them. Madrox has a max of about forty dupes, the Ghost can push through those easily. Nightcrawler could port off a piece of the White Wolf, but he would have to get close first. How’s he going to track him though? It’s a matter of time before Nightcrawler hits the floor (or gets dumped into one of the firepits).

My team is smarter, has more resources, has more (and more diverse) power.

WINNER=JAILBAIT

Odd Alliance vs HOTNA: Rebuttal

Quote:
My first problem with this is Grodd. Yes, Rulk would need some mental barriers to take on Onslaught because otherwise his mind would be wide open. The problem is that Grodd isn't anywhere near powerful enough to do this. You admit it in your write up that he's not on par but that he only needs tol hold up for a little while, but personally I figure Grodd around Jean Grey level and Onslaught snuffed up Jean Grey twice in a split second. Onslaught would expect a Grodd deal being as how they're the only two telepaths, so he'd expect this. The moment he finds resistance in Rulk's mind he'd just break right through. With that, Rulk is open to mental assault and certainly won't be able to physically manhandle Onslaught. From there, the fight is faulty and Rulk will go down, allowing for Onslaught to do as he wishes (almost exactly like how I wrote it).

Also, more reason why Rulk won't be able to physically win. Hulk did it but only because the angrier he got the stronger he got until he was finally strong enough to break Onslaught's armor. Rulk is not as strong as Hulk (as shown in Hulk 6 when Hulk overpowered Rulk). He doesn't get stronger, he gets hotter, which is little help against Onslaught's armor. Now, the heat could be something, but I don't think he could break the shell to get to the man, so it doesn't matter. And Rulk can drain cosmic and gamma energies, but Onslaught's armor is Psionic, which is differant. All in all, Rulk would put up a decent fight, but this match up would be his demise.

Quote:
Grodd reaches into Lights mind as he nears and very quickly possesses the villain. Now in his control Light is left to watch as his body is manipulated against his will...
Light.
Now, I do like the idea of Grodd taking control of Light and using that against Sinestro. That's actually a great idea. The only problem with it is that that requires Rulk to defeat Onslaught, and I've already shown reasons as to why that won't happen. Grodd just doesn't match up and so any mental assaults or strategies fall by the wayside.

Not only that but you also have Shazam killing the crap out of Sinestro, which is out of character. He's very much a boyscout from all that I've read. Not saying he couldn't beat Sinestro, but not in the fashion you've written it.

Quote:
Demask tries to reach into his head with a blade but his pre-cog ability gives him enough warning to leap out of the way.
Does Anti-Venom have pre-cog abilities? The wiki entry you quote doesn't say anything about it.

He pulls the blade out of his other arm and drops it next to the last member of The Odd Alliance and the HOTNA remain victorious.[/quote]

While a decent fighting strategy between the two, it's been shown in comics before that Deathstroke outfights Batman. An example is from Deathstroke issue 7:

Quote:
In my own write up I added the fog to make it more balanced. In a straight up fight, Deathstroke takes it every time.

Good write up, but a few misteps in key battles costs it for you in my opinion, and hopefully in everyone else's.

Winner - Odd Alliance

Ok

I was waiting for your rebuttle...

Firstly Rulk vs Onslaught.

I have to be honest here, if Onslaught can't even be taken apart by the raw power of Hulk and needs a large team such as the Xmen and other Marvel characters then in my opinion he's Tuber. The guy has telepathic resistance. But any way to move onto my actual write up...

My plan was remove Onslaught and the rest were vulnerable to the mind and as such I had Grodd focus all his energy on shielding Rulk's mind. All onslaught could see was a barrier and the speed Rulk got to him he realised he didnt have time to mess about with his mind so just went for the physical which I believe Rulk would out do Onslaught in. Yes he gets hotter when he's madder but he has to take alot of punishment to get to this stage. Hence the mind blast once Onslaught was in pain. Also I think the type of heat Rulk produces would affect Onslaught enought to lower his guard and affect his armour. But thats my views anyway... Still think Onslaught is Tuber

Sinestro and Captain Marvel....You'll notice I didnt have him deliberately kill Sinestro. That was just a result of the impact. He has, much like other Superman like characters, thrown villains through walls etc not really considering the implications. This was just another one of those times.

Anti-Venom having precog...im sure Venom has precog but if not then I apologise but I still think he would have the reaction time and reflexes to dodge Demasks attack

Ok so you've highlighted an old comic from when Batman was defeated by Deathstroke...since then how many times has Dick Grayson and any other Robin varient beaten Slade? And if this battle were to be written now with the most recent incarnation of Bruce Waynes Batman who do you think would win? Cos in my opinion and in the opinion, im sure, of most, Batman would take him. Batman has taken much bigger and more powerful and skilled opponents and even though he's a mortal man, has still come out on top and in terms of DEathstroke I think he would win every time...

And my returned rebuttal (still waiting on your rebuttal of my write up of course):

Oh he's definately beatable. I've actually taken him out in the majority of the matches I've played him in. It just takes some level of creativity. Honestly, I'm not saying Rulk COULDN'T do it, just that I don't see it happening in this scenerio. The reasoning for this is that it would take a lot of brute force and by the time that works Onslaught could utilize his other abilities to intrupt the process. Besides that, the main thing for me was that Grodd wouldn't have the ability to protect Rulk's mind well enough against Onslaught for the beat down to occur. That's the main deal for me. An Uber telepath vs a Medium telepath isn't a fair matchup.

Yes, I can see that, but he has other abilities, specifically his telekinesis, which would have been a great help here... as in creating a forcefield to hold off Rulk so that he CAN stop Grodd's telepathy, or by using it to throw Rulk around, etc.

Mmmm... yeah okay. I can see that.

Yeah, I don't think he has precog at all, but his agility is off the charts so this is still possible. I'm okay with that.

Honesty, I have no idea. I just know that when I did a google search trying to find any history between the two that was the only fight that came up... and I searched several websites to find more recent info and couldn't. I did find a bio, maybe wiki but I don't remember, that flat out says he has the ability to outfight Batman, so I just went with it.

I havent been able to find any flaws in your write up to be honest...hence the wait for you to rebuttle mine...

And as for the Batman/ Deathstroke thing I still think Batman would win.

As for Onslaught...I dont see him having many powers as Xavier/Magneto other than his telepathy, magnetism and energy projection possibly through his psinic powers...I dont know where or how he would have TK...

And I think that way for Rulk to take out Onslaught is feasible...but thats just me...Im dropping him after next though so its all good

(this isn't a debate post... just a discussion one)

I personally would love to see a one-on-one with Batman and Deathstroke now. Personally, I'd love to see another Deathstroke ongoing. I'm curious about the one he had in the 90's but like you mentioned, it's dated.

And as for Onslaught's telekinesis... I don't get it either but he had it in the beginning. I thought maybe it was magnetism he was using but he mentions it so I don't know. I just go with it.

Yeah the TK is a wonder...

And I would love to see a Batman vs Deathstroke battle. I think now, the way they have evolved Batman it would be a much tougher battle but I still see it going Bruce's way

Odd Alliance - 8; HOTNA - 6 Enjoyed both of these write ups, but I thoroughly enjoyed the short guy's a bit more. Seemed a bit more believable for me, and his creative way of killing Grodd with Billy's lightning is great.

Jailbait - 7; AS - 0 Now I don't know if AS quite qualifies for a zero since he got the preptime posted, but if not, I'll just give him a one. For the third week in a row Stryfe and X-Man would kill each other, and Jailbait would clean up against his lineup anyway.

Ringers - 6
Chaos & Order - 5

I'm actually torn on this one for two reasons. The first is that I feel Green Lantern took out severl C&O members too easily (I think Blue Beetle and Kyle could have taken more than they did), but then again, I feel that Wiegeabo messed up by not including the full disclosure deal and not having the Ringers plan for Kara's weakness to magic and such, thus effecting portions of his write up more than was done. Due to this I wanted to see some rebuttals to better sway me, but with none I had to go back and go over the teams themselves, consider them myself with each write up in the back of my mind, and then make my decision. And thus, the Ringers win, but just barely.

Harlekin - 8
AnnoyingSilence - 0

Honestly, as simple as Harlekin's write up was, I still loved it. I feel it deserves the high points I've given.

Heroes of the New Age 5
(Screw you Wing for always making the matches so close I want to vote a tie. I was just a little more convinced by how JH used some of the characters, although Onslaught attacking Grodd's telepathy breaks a rule)

Annoying Silence 1
Jailbait 3
(I would have given Harl a 5 or more, but using uber powers during prep-time is a no-no)
