I wasn't talking about your preference but I was talking about preference of the general audience.

What gives you the voice of the general audience?

The box-office performance of the previous X-Men movies and the buzz from the previous X-Men films. First Class never matched the first three X-Men films when it comes to those things.

Arguably because X3 damaged the brand, which would suggest that it is the old cast/films that carry stigma or inspire negative reactions.

Your right on the rest of the cast but Hoult was great to until he actually went blue; his costume was horible.
Dont get me wrong I love Fassbender, but in no way is his portrayal of Magneto better than Sir Ian. He embodied Magneto persona's so well as did Patrick Stewart they owned the roles. Not saying that Fassbender didnt do a good job as did McAvoy, but the originals took the cake. This is me offtopic-Mystique's appearance depends on how how you look at it,some people loved Lawrence's portrayal because it made her seem more human and relatable, I thought it was rather bland. RRS on the other brought another dimension to her and reminded us why she was a complete bada@@, eventhough she didnt talk i still preferred that version, but im sure this time around she will kill it. Different script i have confidence Singer will nail it this time.

I agree X3 damaged the brand but IMO, FC may have been better if it had more characters that people knew about and weren't just made up or thrown in. The movie was different but it was just boring, even for a time based movie it was very dry. I dont even know what it is but I cant even rewatch it because I get bored with it. X1-X3 I can rewatch over and over.

Audiences might be more familiar with the older character, but if Fassbender's Magneto is heavily featured in DoFP and if the movie is successful, they'll be just as familiar with him. Unless old!Magneto is time-travelling, he's likely to have less screentime in DoFP than his younger version. And whoever is more popular with the audience, I'm pretty sure that this will be old!Magneto's swansong.

And still, Origins: Wolverine sold well.

Most people just didn't care about First Class. Of course people who have seen it, loved it and enjoyed it. But with the general public, it wasn't that popular and they probably didn't hear the movie a lot from the press.

I think the whole box office thing was because of marketing. But anyone who I asks usually prefers XMFC (and strangely a lot love X3).

I already said here before, majority of the "general audience" liked X3. And even if X3 sucked, people are still asking for a X-Men 4 movie. Go to youtube and there's a couple of fake X-Men 4 trailers with millions of views.

I actually think part of X3 bits were brilliant, it was just other parts were...just awful.

Cool Re: The official Michael Fassbender / Magneto thread

X3 was a mixed bag...I liked it because it felt like an X-men movie...it had the action...it's just the story that lacked and the execution of some key moments that left me and most...unsatisfied...

XFC was refreshing and got me ready for more X-films...plain and simple.

Well obviously there will be both. Nevertheless, Magneto is about the baddest character in all of comics. You want Fassbender, Magneto in his prime not an old man.

Apologies. I should have said that X3 and Wolverine damaged the brand. Audiences were still willing to forgive and forget after X3, but 2 duds in a row with the original cast definitely decreased X-Men's market value. Now you are correct that the characters from the original trilogy are probably a bigger draw, but I'm not so sure that that appeal is shared by the actors who played them and their interpretations. Fassbender is a rising star in Hollywood and people loved his interpretation of Magneto. While I enjoyed McKellan, Fassbender's Magneto is why I am interested in DOFP.

2 duds in a row? The 2nd one was a prequel, even if X3 was a good movie, Origins would still earn less. Even if Origins was a good movie, First Class would still earn less.

Of course the X-Men movie franchise would have been in a better situation right now, if X3 was as good as X2, it would probably be seen one of the best trilogies ever and if the prequel movie of Wolverine was good, it would have at least earned 200 million at domestic box-office. And fan-boys and critics would have more faith to the series, but still this franchise didn't crash and burn compare to the other superhero movies out there.

I hope so. If it is, I hope it's in-costume...
