It's probably more Ian's manner of speaking than it is his accent. It's very grand, flamboyant and occasionally hammy. Though I imagine, given the story and tone of this film, that it will be tuned down a bit.

Magneto is a grand, flamboyant, and more than a little hammy character, both in the comics and the films. He's always been that way. Plus, one's man's hamminess is another man's charisma and air of authority.

i do hope they keep some of his portrayal and its not a watered down transformation to match mckellens magneto

there is a perfectly good reason to fassbenders magneto to be abit different in his youth

Well it has been another 10 years of stuff happening off screen... Mystique is notably more like her X1-2 self

I don't think that Magneto will be quite as intense as he was in FC, where after all he had a very personal vendetta to take care of. But yes hopefully he's not watered down either.

The scene with Mystique didn't make him looked watered down and neither did the scene where he elevated himself.

I wonder what he's going to do to the poor schmucks in the background. Also, love the new costume.

That new picture probably happens in the climax of the movie.

Honestly, I like Fassbender's Magneto better than McKellen's.

Anybody remember the torture tools that Singer tweeted as "Magnetos toys", I wonder when and where in the movie do those come into play?

Probably earlier in the movie.

I do. The costume and look for McKellens' Magneto is not quite right to me. He's good as Erik Lensherr but Fassbender's great as both. And Magneto is not McKellen at his best. Not in the same league as his performance as Gandalf for eg, although Magneto wasn't written or outfitted/made up to the same standard. I'd give him 8/10 & Fassbender 9 (& Gandalf 9.5).

I completely agree with you. McKellen is a fine Magneto and I do love him as an actor and in the role but Fassbender brought to a whole other level IMHO. And I am not a everything that is shiny and new is better person. I'm not just going to like something more because it is new.

I like Fassbender's ruthlessness in FC. However, maybe it comes with age, but Fassbender won't take the crown until he delivers those eloquent yet snarky lines like Mckellen does.

If nothing else Ian's Magneto had some killer one liners!

I still prefer McKellen's. The reviews for FC over-sold Fassbender's performance but I came...expecting Fassy to blow me over with his performance but was actually more impressed with McAvoy's Xavier.

I think both Fassbender and McKellen are absolutely fantastic at portraying a character at completely different stages of his life. Though I slightly prefer Fassbender's Magneto for purely superficial eye-candy reasons

I like that Erik looks older in these pics, as he should 11 years after First Class. Maybe because Fassbender seems slightly fuller in the face?

I think Fassbender will become a better Magneto than Ian.His portrayal in FC was extraordinary.Showing him as an anti-hero was a masterstroke. In the OT,Magneto is the clear cut villain. In FC,you could share Magneto's feelings of anger, revenge, friendship and hatred.
