I do agree that Garfield looks far more like Peter, but you're beyond exaggerating in Tobey's case.

I think what ruined Tobey's workout routine WAS injuring his back. I don't think he ever got back into the shape that he was in the first Spider-Man due to it. You can tell by Spidey 3, he was in shape, but also kinda...tubby.

). In that shot above, it just looks like the suit and padding are restrictive and that he's got bigger muscle mass than Garfield. His stomach is flat. etc. I will agree that he looked bigger in 3 than in 2 and 1, but not 'tubby'.

That's too dreadful a picture of Tobey to compare to Andrew. Tobey's Spidey was a little more built, but the suit looks bloated and obviously padded in that shot.

I find it much easier to buy Garfield as a teenager than Tobey.

Tobey has a Tom Cruise build, short and stocky.
Garfield is far more ectomorphic which suits Spider-man better.

To be honest, Tobey was only the 'teenage' Peter in one film. Otherwise, Toby looked fine. I think he looked more like a college student overall, but he pulled it off.
Still this very day, he looks fairly young.

The Garfield costume looks a bit too shiny but it's better than raised webbing which was always over-done.

To be fair, here's my take:
Raimi is classic Spider-Man: Classic costume, classic hair (besides the emo look in part 3), and Raimi's love for the classic stories. Webb represents a more modern Spidey: Streamlined costume, bedhead look (which I have too, so it's a plus for me), and influences from the Ultmate Spider-Man line, along with other up-to-date stories. There's nothing wrong with either version me thinks. Just different interpretations. And that's what we want, especially with a new director and a new direction.

I hope the mask isn't shiny and leathery.

Those comparison shots make it even more apparent how much better the Raimi suit is.
I'm sorry but the new costume is awful. I'm really trying to look for a positive but all I keep seeing is "Lets add random seams to make it look more futuristic looking". The only saving grace is the mask at this point. Please let the mask be the coolest thing ever otherwise this isn't going to stick well with me at least.

If this new series doesn't kill Gwen, ugh. Adaptation Decay ftw.

I'm 100% with you.
This costume made me love the Raimi design even more, I already adored it and was my #1 superhero costume ever made in a movie and now were getting this? It's like making a perfect plate of Alfredo pasta and then say "Wait let me throw in some soy sauce and ginger in there too make it "different"".
