I like Nicholas Hoult quite a lot as an actor. I've liked him in everything I've seen him in.

He didn't have as much to do in DOFP as he did in First Class, but he still did a good job. When watching him as Hank McCoy, though, I couldn't help but think he could have been a really good Peter Parker ...

In a different film series and world, yes. As much as I love Garfield as an actor and a human, Hoult was more Peter Parker in FC than Garfield has been in both Spidey films.

I didn't get some things with Hank in this film. I don't think he was 'wasted' in the film, but he was just sort of 'there' for most scenes and he Beasts out when the action needs him to.

He didn't get any emotional arc of his own and he shared a few glances with Raven at some points, but it didn't go anywhere. He's the same character at the end of the film as he was at the start, they didn't go anywhere with his arc. Sure he used the serum at the end so the Sentinal couldn't kill him, but you don't know if Hank learnt anything from the events of the film from Charles etc, even if he learnt anything from the whole 'Mutant and Proud' theme in First Class. That's when you know a character didn't get a satisfying character arc.

I hope he gets more of an arc in Apocalypse and I think Dark Beast is the way to go.

I kind of thought that Beast's arc in DOFP was, much like Charles, "getting back out there".

He was a recluse of sorts along with Xavier, and he slowly got back into "the game", a little more, a little more, and then he was full on Beast in public in pitched battle.

good post. Honestly I hadnt thought about any of this, but now that you posted that... its a bit dissapointed how Singer didnt explore Hank's own problem with himself, even if he has a serum now, but I always thought Singer would do a beautiful job with this character, and after this movie, it feels such a wasted material. And this makes me a bit worried about what Singer and Kimberg will do with young Scott and Jean on next movie.

If definetly seems like Singer's heart isnt in the actual x-men, but more about the whole story and Charles/Erik/Raven relationship. And that, to me, its dissapointing, because this franchise is called X-Men for a reason.
