I hope that it is not the usual twist like Lex Luthor is not human but a Kryptonian living on Earth.

I predict a red son like ending.

The twist could be anything so I wouldn't get too concerned about it. Chris and Emma will be far more faithful to the roots of the character (keep in mind Singer hadn't read a Superman comic book in his life). I suspect the twist might be something as simple as no Lex Luthor or a big sci-fi component. Or, that it's an older Superman.

Whatever it is, so long as it's not the blasted son-routine again, I'm in ;-)

What does "faithful to the roots" even mean. Superman has changed so much since creation and decade to decade. Even the comics can't keep the origin straight. What exactly was unfaithful about Singers take that is any less unfaithful then any writers for comics.

I think it would be brilliant if they went with an older Superman.

We discussed this a few days ago in other threads.

I think someone said in the Nolan 3.0 thread that the twist might be Brainiac responsible for Krypton's destruction.

Imo that would NOT be a twist. It would be exactly what was done in STAS.

"Twist" possibility's.
#1-Older Superman.
-Why would it work?
=The origin has been told countless times before in Superman media. Plus they can't do the origin anyway.
=Many "older" actors have lots of Superman potential. Jon Hamm,Matthew Fox,Jim Caviezel.
-Why it wouldn't work.
= The actor would be too old for a sequel/JLA spinoff.
#2-Red Son ending.
-Why it would work.
=????
-Why it wouldn't work-Too far of a deviation.
#3-No Lex Luthor.
Why it would work.
=We need a new villain to keep the audiences attention.
Why it wouldn't work.
-????

Here's my theory, which I'm basing on the whole "It's not a reboot and not a sequel" comment:

The twist is that Superman has been around since 1939. He hasn't aged in decades, but the world around him has changed, as has Lois, the DP staff, etc.

As for Clark Kent, the biggest twist will be that once Clark reached the natural age of dying (Kal-El has used make-up to achieve an aged look through the years, a la the Earth-2 Superman) Superman allowed the secret identity to die, though he is, of course, still Clark Kent (though really only in his own mind/experience.)

There you have it, my random and admittedly very crazy theory.

Yes. Good call. I'm sure it will be something like this, that makes you look at Superman himself differently. Remember, Nolan loved the new idea as soon as Goyer told him.The twist is going to be something big that effects the character in a major way, not some change of detail like Brainiac destroys Krypton.

It would be foolish for DC / WB to let go of whatever characters they own legally (like Daily Planet, Lois, Jimmy, Perry) because if Clark Kent ages and dies the same happens to Lois, Jimmy Perry, and DC cannot use them again, and the Origins story and some characters are already granted to Siegal's so, it will not be like that , IMO.

Generally I hate twists, but the statement was pretty vague so i'm not going to worry about it.

The twist could be something like what people have been saying, that Superman is considered an alien threat, and has to prove himself against another alien like Brainiac. I agree that it could be just looking at Superman in a different way, rather than a major change in his known story.

wasnt there some talk that maybe in the movie the public is a little afraid of him because he is an alien ?

maybe the twist on teh legend is that not every is crazy about him and not every likes him. and that they are fraid.
