Default What connections would you like to see in Xmen: First Class?

In the new flick what connections or loose ends would you like to see tied up or at least referenced in the new film that relate to original three X movies? (or perhaps wolverine origins)

None, I hope they use this to fix the mistakes and mischaracterization of the first trilogy.

I have a list...

1. I would like to see how Henry McCoy transforms from Hobbit like to Beast Like.
2. I would like to see the lower levels designed and built at xaviers school
3. I would like to know how they aquired the blackbird.
4. I would like to know how Magneto built that machine in x1 even though, Neither Magneto, Toad, Mystique or Sabretooth had advance knowledge of technology and science.
5. It would be interesting to have Stryker have a cameo small role.
6. inkeeping with the comics i think it would be a brilliant idea to have Jean the last mutant to join the x-men team. like she was the last of the original five to join.

I'd just like the same spirit and tone as X-Men and X2. Those movies were nowhere near perfect adaptations of the X-Men books, but they were their own universe based on the books I love, and for whatever reason, The Last Stand and Wolverine weren't able to replicate that magic. So more than anything, I'm hoping that Singer's influence in the movie will make it feel like it's part of the franchise again, instead of the last two entries we've got.

Also, I'd hope that any characters that would appear later in the trilogy have some purpose in the movie. If Senator Kelly were thrown into the movie, give him a reason to be there, not just as some cool Easter egg. If Iceman is there, then make sure he's young enough to line up with Shawn Ashmore's appearance in the first movie. Just make sure this actually feels like it could be a true prequel to the X-Men films, and not a reboot that disregards everything we've learned about these characters for the past ten years.

Well, from the group of people that could possibly be carried over to this film, there really weren't a lot of mischaracterizations per se. Some characters just weren't developed as much as others.

That would be cool... like one of those things only the comic book fans will understand.

I wouldn't mind if this was just a reboot. The only thing I'd miss from the originals would be Jackman as Wolverine, but I guess they could say X-Men Origins is in this continuity.

If this is a reboot, then the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 will be in the previous continuity... which is confusing

Wow, a well thought out and rational post! Kudos.

They are "their own universe based on the books I love" and I've never had a problem with that concept. So, I hope this is a prequel and they keep the other films in mind.

I did enjoy Wolverine, however and would love a Hugh Jackman cameo as maybe it was Logan's platoon that rescued Eric in the WWII concentration camp shown in X1.

Interesting points guys. My guess is this isn't a reboot b/c considering Wolverine is ongoing and there have been talks of X4 now is not the time for some out of continuity side project.

I'd like to see most of what squidboy and velvetonion mentioned in their posts. I think we especially have to see how Magneto and Prof. X constructed the mansion and cerebro.

The thing with Beast is that we saw a human version of him in X2 on the TV but by X3 he was inexplicably his blue self. So my guess is his transformation occurred between those movies?

I'd love any connections to the original X-Men trilogy, I still love those films to this day! Well, X3 is a little subpar......but I love the first two! I would love a cameo appearance or something of someone from the original movies. (Maybe Xavier looks into the future somehow?)

In response to #6, I don't think that's technically possible.

The flashback scene in X-Men: The Last Stand of Xavier and Magneto recruiting Jean happens "20 years ago", while according to Stryker in X2, the ending of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (which would be the gathering of Cyclops, as well as other first class students Banshee, Emma Frost, and others) takes place "15 years ago".

Even though "15 years ago" doesn't exactly match up with the real world history of the real world events of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it is the stated time frame so I don't think that Jean can technically be the last recruited. She at least can't be recruited after Cyclops, Emma Frost, and Banshee.

Although, all that said, I will finish on this - due to the real world history timeline of the events that X-Men Origins: Wolverine as well as the events of the comic books, I wouldn't exactly complain if they took the route to have Jean Grey be the last recruit of the first class.

I disagree with your first paragraph in regards to X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but I agree with everything in your 2nd paragraph, especially the part about this not being a reboot. I am glad that this is a prequel movie that continues the continuity of the original trilogy + Wolverine spinoff prequel. 1st, I hate the idea of reboots in general (the Nolan Batman reboot being the lone exception to that rule, because I believe it was truly needed for Batman), and 2nd while I understand some of the complaints regarding the more recent X-Men films, none of these films are anywhere close to the disasters that warrant reboots that they are made out to be. And that's not even being a fanboy - just the extreme level of hatred these movies leave are unwarranted. I can see why some (especially X-Men fans) would say the movies aren't -GREAT-, and aren't the highlights of the X-Men film franchise, but they are far from horrible, or the "worst comic book films ever"

Anyways, this prequel movie / series will give the fans what they want out of the reboot anyways - a movie with no Wolverine that gives characters like Cyclops their deserved due in the film universe. And those of us that want to keep it in the current continuity get our wish too. The First Class prequel / series is a total win-win situation for the fans. Nobody loses in this.

And with Bryan Singer on board (even though it's not a directorial role), I'm hoping that he will keep Matthew Vaughn in check so that Vaughn doesn't turn this into the cluster funk that X-Men: The Last Stand would have been had he stayed on board.

Ideally I'd like there be no mention of Wolverine... he's had PLENTY of star time in the other films, and will have more in the upcoming sequel.

Also, Storm needs to be someone legit... i.e. badass and more like her character in the comics... I want an accent, her claustrophobia exposed, etc. Oh, and if she can REALLY fly, that'd be awesome.

Ive brought this up before, although xavier and magneto did go to see Jean and to invite her to the school. there is no real indication she excepted the offer.

In the comics Xavier knew of Jean on many occasions before she joined the school...

If you remember what Magneto said in that scene, he said why do we have to visit this one indicating others have been invited before Jean appeaerd at the school.

Despite all this, if you think of it through logic, Jean could be in the story and she could heavily feature in it. But maybe she is kind of like the nutural character, The others start to form the x-men and by the end of the movie Jean then decides to join the x-men.

I think this movie should be layered to tie in with all x-men 1, 2 & 3 and give future indication of what might happen in x-men 4.

Like

The link between First Class and X1 would be how Magneto found plans to create a device to turn humans into mutants.

ect.

The more I think about it - this movie is going to have many things they probably should hint at or touch upon regarding the original movies.

As has been said before, there are explanations.

Maybe Jean wasn't immediately recruited to the school.

And perhaps Xavier didn't gather all the students in one go. Jean could have been among the very first in the movieverse version of events. She could have been there already when Xavier rescued those kids at the end of the Wolverine movie.

Xavier might have had other students for years and years before that rescue took place. Such as Jason Stryker, who it seems was an earlier student for him to then be deep-frozen at Stryker's base on Three Mile Island (I presume Jason had been to Xavier's school already at that point).

Of course, First Class might make it all more structured than that.

They should at least touch on the Jason Stryker character in this flick.....

I can think of a way to do so w/o being tied down to that plot point.

Maybe at the end of the film they can show some type of a montage of students coming and going as prof. X narrates, with some students "turning out for the better" and some hinted as "turning out for the worse".

Perhaps the voice of young Charles can even slowly morph into Patrick Stewart's voice or something.

I've had enough of Stryker...If they want to squeeze in a cameo, they could, but it's not necessary anymore..
