Also, did anybody else find the dialogue a bit silly? Something seemed off about it but in a good way

Watched majority of it and liked what I saw just wish SyFy didnt do a 2hr premire at 10pm-12pm. Though if they introduce new Alphas I hope they dont go with the semi cliche which gender gets what power.

I enjoyed this quite a bit and think that it will be a good time on TV personally.

It kind of sucks that Bill's ability has such a debilitating drawback. Five minutes of using his power and he becomes pretty helpless after.

Nina seems to be the only Alpha whose ability doesnt come with any consequences.

The pseudo-Prof X seemed pretty clear when he said that EVERY ability has its drawbacks. I have a feeling we'll be seeing what they are for Nina later. I also believe that they won't be limiting Bill so heavily forever. Maybe they all start to learn better control of what they can do, such as Hicks did, and even evolve a bit.

Yeah I would imagine the reason Bill ooverloaded is because he kicked down the door and then did several other feats of strength all within a period of like 5 minutes, so maybe he ability is like you all said limited at firt but then he will be able to learn how to use his "Super Adrenilin" over a prolonged period of time.

Isnt Ninas: anyone who knows she has the power always doubts her because they never know if she is using it on them?

And depending on Bills recovery time, 5 mins isnt that bad if he knows the right time to use it.

I find it pretty cool that they show Bill sweating profusely when activating his ability. It really ups the believabilty factor.

I also like his strength level portrayal. He's not going to be lifting building, but when he kicks the strength into play, it's like fighting a bear. No chance whatsoever of beating him without a weapon (unless maybe you're another Alpha like Hicks). Better just to run until he wears out after a few minutes.

Smell-o-vision is also pretty cool.

The powers of the Alphas all seem pretty grounded so far. Their powers are all kinda cool but they all come at a cost. Which kinda forces them to work together because none of them could do it all by themselves.

Though the first show was pretty tame I felt it worked better than the premier episodes of Heroes, the Cape AND No Ordinary Family.

SyFy may have found it's next Battlestar Galactica (I know....WAY too early).

I've been so disappointed with SyFy since Galactica ended. Glad they are bringing in a show that might bring me back to the network.

Oh wait, I can watch the show for free on Amazon. YES!!!

So which abilities would you like to see "fit" into the show? Would superspeed or wall crawling fit into this world, done by their explanation?

I would like to see somebody that can vibrate their molecules to the point they can pass through walls and objects. The downside to it could be a psychological disorder to not connect with people or having to eat a huge meal after using the power.

I liked the set up. It wasn't groundbreaking, but there is a good amount of potential there between the characters. I really like how all of the characters have powers that rely on each other. That's how a team should work instead of having a couple of powerhouses and a bunch of filler characters. Each person has their own specific attributes that they can contribute, and that makes everyone interesting. I really liked Gary's powers, and the hyperkinesis power has loads of potential. I hope this show sticks around.

I really liked the action scenes with Hicks. The way he jumped off the handrail and the diving was really cool.

I totally agree about them working as a team. I found it interesting how the mentor (Lee) acted like a caring and nice person but was a dick about how he forced Hicks to join the group. I wonder if this is a sign of what The Ghost said before he died about the Alpha group or Lee.

The Ghost thing intrigues me as well. I think eventually it's going to be shown that this Red Flag organization isn't as bad as they are portrayed to be. Maybe one of the Alphas joins them kinda like Colossus joining the Acolytes.

By SyFy standards show was a success.

Quote:
Alphas found 2.5 million total viewers, 1.2 million Adults 18-49 and 1.3 million Adults 25-54 along with a 1.84 HH rating, the top-rated series premiere since Warehouse 13 debuted in July 2009, the same night Syfy launched its new brand evolution.

From 9-10PM, the season three premiere of Warehouse 13 snagged, bagged and tagged 2.3 million total viewers, 1.0 million Adults 18-49 and 1.2 million Adults 25-54 with a 1.74 HH rating.

Eureka’s season 4.5 return kicked off the night at 8PM by grabbing 2.0 million total viewers, 893,000 Adults 18-49 and 987,000 Adults 25-54, while averaging a 1.5 HH rating.

Boosted by the premieres of Alphas, Warehouse 13 and Eureka, Syfy.com delivered its best day in video streams (378K) since 11/1/2009; uniques (376K) since 10/31/10; page views (1.4 million) since 3/18/11, and visits (373K) since 1/17/11.

How about a shapeshifter and a teleporter.

Shapeshifter's drawback---Real form is disfigured and if angered, can't keep the form.

Teleporter's drawback---Hates the outside.
If the teleporter is outside, they have a panic attack.

I think Telepathy is a good one to incorporate here.

Either headaches or nosebleeds would be the drawback to that ability.

It's like the X-Men, on Peter Parker's budget.
