Alright so we got a brand new GI JOE animated series premiering this fall with Transformers: Prime. The new series is being written by Henry Gilroy and Jeff Kline. The first season is reported to be 26 episodes. It will be an origin story of sorts for GI JOE who are on the run from Cobra Industries who on the surface are a benevolent corporate conglomerate.

Great news, at this point I'm not that interested of GI Joe, but I'm all for the new series.

I like the look and design style for the show. I hope it's a bit more serious than Sigma 6. Hopefully it will have a better vocal cast behind it. They claim it will have a heavier tone but still appropriate for kids. We'll see.

Saw the teaser trailer just now. They ruined it for me. Manga'd the crap out of it and now I can't even bear to watch it, let alone enjoy it.

What teaser trailer? What they showed at SDCC or this?
http://hubworld.com/index.htm Very short clip here. Style is a little different, but I'm fine with it really. I want to see more though. I like that Charlie Adler is playing Cobra Commander again. I think Moore is being a hater because the designs for shows like Spectacular Spider-man looked very different and awkward at first. Not like the 1990's original is all that great anymore or really holds up that well.

I was just more impressed when people looked like people back in the 80's cartoons. It was a much harder process making an animation, yet the artists there drew actual people, not spindly armed, giant eyed, over simplistic things.
You would think that nowadays with it being easier to digitally create or at least alter, that cartoons would have a slight realism to them (without that godawful CG style stuff like in Iron Man armoured adventures). |

More that I hate that approach for action based cartoons, not comedy ones. Ren and Stimpy? Fine. He-Man or GIJOE? Not so much

I guess you hate Spectacular Spider-man, JLU, BTAS, STAS, and Batman Beyond as well.

I dunno what STAS is, but I did like JLU, BTAS, and Batman Beyond. They were stylized, but not over the top. JLU had ridiculously enormous shoulders, but it worked for the Kirby-esque style they were going for early on. Spectacular Spider-Man on the other hand - yeesh.

Spectacular Spider-man was a popular, beloved series amongst fans though. STAS is Superman series.
I don't see how those shows are any less stylized than Renegades. They didn't ever look like REAL PEOPLE either.

Its more than Mangaisation than anything else. I just can't stand manga cartoons, but think its fine as a cartoon type and they have their place. I just wish the style would stay in its own genre and not bleed over into american comicbook and action figure cartoons. I couldn't even get through half of Gotham Knight because of at least two parts.
It's like, Manga has its place, fine. Overly stylized (Spectacular Spider-Man) has its place and lets us know its definitely a version of the character more for kid kids rather than later kids and comic book fans. So if you're going to go for 'realistic', then actually go for realistic like the older GIJOE model bases. Don't try for realistic then give them fish lips, goldfish bowl eyes, insanely pointy chins, tiny noses, flapping sideburns, endless slow-mo firework action scenes. The Batman, X-Men Evolution, Wolverine and the X-Men, BTAS - all work well because their stories and art suggest they are for kids, but also appeal to older kids and comic book fans and aren't trying to insult you. Spec Spidey works because it fully aims at younger kids. Manga as a style doesn't work for me because everything about it suggests it aint for kids, but then it has the weird over exaggerated facial features that just don't match up to the bodies. |

Like it or not, Japanese have been animating and producing our cartoons for years.
Transformers were created by the Japanese. I think we also need to see more footage before you can so lamely call it manga-ization.

That actually looks goods. It's closer animation wise to Real American Hero than Sigma 6 was. Actually it's the same animation style as GI Joe Resolute (which was how GI Joe should have been made in the beginning)

If you are Chris Moore don't look at the new pictures in the link:
http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=9&itemid=16333 Also cast and character breakdown: Quote:
-Lady Jaye is Latina now -Flint is hunting the fugitive JOES for Cobra and Lady Jaye is on his team but secretly helps the Joes. -Lady Jaye and Duke are a potential item. I suppose there could be a Duke/Jaye/Flint love triangle based on this press release -Scarlett is apparently a tech expert that got some training from Snake Eyes and hasn't had much combat experience or training previously -Snake Eyes isn't an official member of the Joe team but comes and goes and helps out. Sounds similar to his association with them in GI JOE: RELOADED -Ripcord is black like his movie counterpart and apparently a daredevil extreme sports adrenaline junkie. Oh joy. -Lee Majors playing a one-eyed and bald General Hawk. Hawk gives orders to Flint and Flint's team to bring the fugitive Joes to justice. So Hawk is an unwilling antagonist of sorts to the Joe team now -Johnny Messner is playing Flint.

It's a interesting take to say the least that they are going for the series with some of the Joes being fugitives, but I'm all for for some new interpretation so I don't mind some of the changes, but we'll see if they can pull it off. And yeah Tomax and Xamot is in the show too.

Series debut is now "APPARENTLY" set for December and the show has been removed from the 10/10/10 listings. Just to point out though, cable guides and local listings had the show listed for 10/10/10 as well. So this wasn't just a matter of fans only misinterpreting Hasbro.

GI Joe Renegades Episode Guide
Posted on 11-06-2010 at 10:39 PM by Shin Densetsu Ever since the premiere date of GI Joe Renegades was pushed back from 10/10/10 to November 10th, and again then to a GI Joe Renegades Black Friday Premiere, officially confirmed this week, fans have been wondering about the lack of Renegades promotion/advertising. Sure we've seen the GI Joe Renegades 1st Clip. Yet on the boards it's pretty obvious that fans want more. According to new info by MSN, we'll be seeing Major Bludd, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and a Bio-Viper in action soon. Here are episode titles and some descriptions for the 1st 7 episodes: The Descent: Part 1 A team is sent to investigate a Cobra facility. 11/26 The Descent: Part 2 The Joes track a Cobra bio-viper. 11/26 The Package Major Bludd tracks down a target for assassination. 12/3 The Return Of The Arashikage Part 1 12/10 The Return Of The Arashikage Part 2 12/17 Homecoming Part 1 12/24 Homecoming Part 1 12/24

I'm just not sure I like the way they have COBRA now as a conspiracy type group, hiding behind a "good" public face. They were so open to being a terrorist group in the original.

It seems to be following the take that the comics took with Cobra. Using the corporation as a front.
