A friend and I have been talking about this game, mainly because he's been playing it for days now. I asked him if what I was told about it was true, that the game is basicly the original Resident Evil mixed with Silent Hill and Twin Peaks.

He said, and I quote "It is! but it's done so well!!"

So I took it upon myself to check reviews, and IGN seems to be the ONLY place that took this game insanely serious as they gave it a 2/10 saying how awful it was and how no self respecting gamer should ever go near it...yeah, typical IGN "hate" review.

...GameSpot however gave it a 7 and said...

Deadly Premonition is not a lovely game, or a refined one. It's easy to dismiss it for its bad looks, its ancient control scheme, and its general user-unfriendliness. But this is a case in which the bigger picture dwarfs the flaws and the foibles. Here is a game that pilfers ideas from a number of sources yet feels wholly distinct, and just when you think you have it figured out, it somehow manages to pull another trick rabbit out of its hat. In fact, you get dozens of hours of trick rabbits for only $20, making this game a great value for anyone looking for something a bit different. And Deadly Premonition is certainly different. It has its ups and downs, but the one direction you'll most associate with this flawed and unique game is sideways.

Now, I know GS isn't all that creditable but my interest was peaked, so I continued looking for more reviews and I found 1Up's review, they gave it a solid B, saying...

Deadly Premonition is by no means a great game, at least in the traditional sense, but I'll be damned if I didn't enjoy every minute of my nearly 42 hours playing it. The setting and story might have a little too much in common with the early 1990s television series Twin Peaks, but the homage is done with love and admiration. You can really tell that game director SWERY and his team at Access Games went above and beyond in creating Deadly Premonition, and frankly, it disgusts me knowing that the game was kicked out the door at a $20 super-budget price point.

Its production values are unquestionably budget, but the game’s ambitious level of corny self-awareness makes it a stupidly affordable, must-have cult title for the adventurous set.

I'm really love hearing that these guys were well aware of the corny bits going into the game...GameInformer also seemed to enjoy it...

It’s incredibly flawed in areas that some consider core to the gaming experience and requires patience to persevere through the problems and get to the best moments. But for everything it lacks, it transcends the stigma of a budget title. If you’re looking for a strange but nonetheless unique experience, Deadly Premonition may satisfy an itch you didn’t even realize you had.

Then Destructoid SOLD me on the game, lol.

Despite this game being quite like everything ever made, there's nothing quite like the game itself. There is absolutely nothing in this industry that can compare to how weird and wonderful the whole experience is. Judged as a piece of entertainment, as a game that consistently surprises and amazes and leaves jaws hanging, I have no choice but to say that Deadly Premonition goes above and beyond. This game is so bad, it's not just become good. It's pretty close to perfect.

I think the fact that this game IS an homage to things like Twin Peaks, RE1 (cheesiness and all) and Silent Hill is great. There are often to many games out there that go the super serious route. If I can travel back to 90's horror style game play (yep, even if it has tank controls) I'll do it.

For 20 bucks and my buds seal of approval? I'm gonna grab it. This is OBVIOUSLY not going to be a game for everyone, but if it becomes a cult hit (ala Evil Dead in film) then it will become hard to find like so many cult games from the past that I wish I would have grabbed back in the day. Everything about this screams B Movie horror...and I like that!

Deadly Premonition is the game Giant Bomb chose as their second Endurance Run (The first game was Persona 4).

May be hard to believe but I'm really enjoying this game, lol. It's not pretty to look at (on our current gen systems, looks like a Dreamcast game...which still isn't BAD, just not "standard" I guess) but it's fun as heck to play....if you can get past the fact that this game controls JUST like RE1-3....I still enjoy those controls today so, it's a non-issue for me.

Anyway, the story is pretty mind bending and to explain any of it would be spoilerish...so I'll just say you're an FBI Agent and you're going to investigate a murder when all of the sudden creepy stuff happens.

This game is to old school survival horror as Planet Terror/Death Proof was to grind house films. I really, really would like this game to sell well because I'd like to see what these guys can give us with a solid budget.

Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut officially announced for Playstation 3

Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut focuses on the story of FBI special agent Francis York Morgan as he investigates the murder of a young woman in the town of Greenvale. In this small town, players have to solve a murder mystery and survive against the killer and supernatural creatures that have taken residence. Along with the original story and gameplay, there are some great new features, including HD graphics, an updated control system, a brand new scenario from the game’s director, Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro, and DLC to keep the mystery going once you complete the main campaign.

Dlc? Me wanty I love this game. I hated it when I got to the last few hours. It makes you care about the characters and then goes bananas. It's amazing!

Where to begin with this game? The graphics as someone said are dreamcast. But whatever I can play bad graphic games as long as it's fun. That's the whole point of gaming. I bought this game without reading the description or any real knowledge of the game. I was vastly disappointed by Silent Hill Downpour and everyone on SIlent Hill reviews said buy this game instead. The only thing I heard was you either love this game or hate it. I hated it. The gameplay was atrocious and more work then fun. But it was bad but not awful. But, where this game drops the ball is the god awful dialogue. I'm sure that that is sort of it's appeal but it sucked. To make it worse it was long. I made it to about the second chapter of the game and turned it off. I still have it and might play it one day. But I doubt it. I would not recommend it to anyone.

The story makes the game. If you just play the main story and nothing else to just zip through the game, then it's not very good, but if you spend time looking around, exploring and doing the side missions and talking to the people it makes the game brand new. The graphics arent the best, yes, but the fighting was shoe horned in at the last minute by the higher ups so that is why it's not that great.

It would be better without the shooting section. The parts where the killer is hunting you down are fun though.
