I like Danny Elfman's Spider-Man stuff - the theme more than the scores - and Patrick Doyle's Thor, but I have to go with John Powell's score for X-Men: The Last Stand. I like Michael Kamen's X-Men score, too, I think that's underrated, but no doubt, Powell's Last Stand.

TAS-M is definitely up there with the best Marvel scores. I place it up there with Elfman's two Spidey scores. I also believe it to be way better than Silvestri's Avengers score, which could've been better, imo.

Looking at that list, TAS-M is easily my personal favorite of the Marvel scores now. I enjoy the old Spidey scores, as well as the X-Men and Avengers scores, but compared to them, TAS-M just feels like the closest thing Marvel's had to a John Williams-esque score, imo. It has a certain.... magical quality to me that I've never experienced with any of the previous Marvel scores. Obviously, it's not exactly as if we got a Williams Marvel score, but there's just an "earnest wonder" aspect to it that really reminds me of Williams, plus a "hummable" theme comprised of more than 3 or 4 notes (which sadly seems to be becoming the standard with themes these days - the more simplistic/less notes, the better).

The Avengers score was mediocre. TASM was one of Horners best scores in years. An underrated favorite of mine is Elfman's Hulk score.

Spider-Man 3 is the best. Then Hulk 03.

I thought that TASM's score was one of the worst film scores I've ever heard, period. Just goes to show how opinions can differ.

As far as I'm concerned, Silvestri's scores for Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers were the best Marvel soundtracks, followed by Thor. I've been a Silvestri fan for a while, however, and I love how his work has evolved since the days when he was scoring Back To The Future, Predator, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, etc. Elfman's Spider-Man theme was fine, but the score as a whole was fairly generic as is most of his work. It all blends together after so many films.

The score's for Thor and Hulk '03 are VERY under-rated.

The Amazing Spider-Man and Thor are my two favorite scores.

Magneto's theme is quite excellent as well.

Oh please. Silvestri's Avengers score was just leftovers of his GIJoe:TROC and A-team scores. Even the main theme is very similar to his GIJoe theme. Now don't get me wrong the score did have it moments, but overall it was a decent typical Silvestri score. The man needs to score other genres other than action adventure movies b/c it's becoming interchangeable now.

Sorry that someone has a differing opinion, and doesn't wanna kiss Elfman's ass like you do 24/7.

Also, one thing everyone has to say positive, for the most part, Marvel's movie scores have been great. We've had a couple crap ones (Ghost Rider 2 being a prime example), but overall, most are at worst, listenable.

I completely agree with you. And I also agree with the poster who said that Hulk'03's score is underrated. I didn't like the movie, but the score was great, one of the best work by Elfman for Marvel.
Silestri's scores, from captain america to "The Avengers" are by far the best Marvel soundtrack.

On the other hand, TASM is just the worst score for a superhero movie. Right after the movie is finished, you have forgotten all the music you've heard 30 second before. And it came from someone who loved Horner, and expecially his work on "The Mask of Zorro" (not a superhero but already a mysterious and masked vigilante)

But, that being said, I still don'tnever understand the love for TASM, which was a terrible experience for me.

I don't mind if you think ASM was a bad score, but I ask you to listen to Ghost Rider 2 by Dave Sardy, or Dredd 3D's score. Lol those are much worse.

LOL this coming from the guy who worships TDK trilogy scores 24/7. Where did I even mention Elfman in my post? I could care less if anybody likes Elfman's music or not. It's there opinion. I was mainly disagreeing with him about The Avengers score being the best marvel score, when it was nothing special from Silvestri, imo. Just leftovers of GIJoe and A-team. It was a generic and by the numbers score.

Btw, I don't kiss anybody's butt 24/7 or at all. Keep that delusional kind of stuff to yourself.

Djawadi's Iron Man and Gregson-Williams X-Men Origins: Wolverine score say "Hi". The latter was just as bad as the movie, imo.

Actually, I haven't listened to TDK trilogy's scores in a while, been having Newman's Skyfall on. Thanks for reminding me about it though

Nah, Iron Man & Wolverine are good scores. Origins not being the best, but it's got great cues.

I find it interesting how polarizing TASM's score is. People either seem to think it's one of the best, or one of the very worst. Not a lot of in-between opinions here. I mean, based on these reactions, you'd think it was some kind of radical approach to film scoring that people were destined to either love or hate, when it's really just a fairly traditional score. Kind of bizarre, imo.

ASM was a pretty good score. I own it, and listen to it quite a bit, but I don't find it better than any previous Spider-Man efforts. It has good cues on the OST, and left off the album, but it's not in my top ten superhero scores.

The Avengers score definitely sold the scope of it, and I applaud Silvestri for that.

I know this came out during the dark days of films based on Marvel characters, but I think Dennis Dreith's Punisher 89 score should be included as well.

Say what you want about the film , but the score to this was great. I still enjoy Siliotto's score for the '04' film very much, but I enjoy the '89' score as well. Both fit their particular interpretations perfectly.
