My problem with this is. Smash Brothers works because the characters all are pretty much cheesy enough to fit with something so silly and the idea of this giant crossover is silly. And it works because you're mashing two silly things together.

With this. You have characters like Sweet Tooth who are creepy vehicle murderers and treasure hunters like Nathan Drake going up against stuff that is silly like a thieving Raccoon like Sly and a anthromorphic animal thing that carries big guns. It just does not compute for me, but I'll definitely give it a try.

They had Solid Snake in Smash Bros and it worked

I will not buy this game unless Crash Bandicoot is in it.

Solid Snake has one of the least realistic games in terms of plot. So that's why he (barely) worked.

He as a character and plot was always handled very seriously though. Snake as a character on paper shouldnt have fit in well with those characters or universe at all but they managed to make him fit. I see Drake being approached similarly to how they handled Snake. You mentioend Sweet Tooth and there was barely anything realistic about he or the TM plot. Besides this would be a Sony game, not Nintendo. Most of the characters I mentioend in my opening post are more adult natured with more serious themes and less of the cartoony sillyness. They wouldnt be the one sole serious character among a bunch of mascot types. I think both characters would have a better chance of fitting in well with similar types such as Cole from Infamous, Sev from Killzone, Nathan Hale from Resistance, etc... Theres a nice blend of diverse titles here to work with so its not polarized in one direction

I'm just saying seeing Cole from Infamous fight Nathan works. Seeing him fight Ratchet however? Does not.

It works seeing Mario fight Samus. However Snake really did stick out in Smash Brothers. He just barely seemed to work. When you have him fighting against Sonic the other guest character it was even more silly.

Unfortunately Crash Bandicoot is owned by Activision. And they currently have no plans for the IP.

I really wish that Sony would just buy the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon IPs. I loved those games. And they would really fit in with Sony as well considering how much Sony loves to milk the first Crash Bandicoot game on their various mobile platforms. And even though Naughty Dog and Insomniac have moved on, they can still give the core games to another developer the way Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time was given to Sanzaru Games.

Well Sony could get a license to have Crash and Spyro in this without needing to buy the IPs back. Considering Activision has no plans for Crash like you mention, this could be a way to make some money off of him without doing much

I never even thought of Kevin Butler but he'd be fun...lol. Some new additions could also be:

Nox (Sideway: New York)
Nix or Kuo (Infamous 2)
Everett (Starhawk)

I imagine like the first Smash Bros this will only have the major reps for franchises and then if there's a sequel you'll branch out to supporting cast/sidekicks. The only sidekicks I could see getting in the first one are Clank and Daxter.

If that happened, that would lead to not enough characters in the game:

- Ratchet
- Jak
- Sly Cooper
- Kratos
- Nathan Drake
- Cole MacGrath
- Sweet Tooth
- Sackboy
- Fat Princess
- Killzone character (Jan Templar or Sgt. Tomas "Sev" Sevchenko)

I think you kinda need the sidekicks (like Clank, Daxter), villains (Captain Qwark, Helghast,), dig into characters of franchises that aren't even active anymore (Medievil, PaRappa the Rapper, Tomba), maybe even think outside of the box (Kevin Butler) and ask Activision and Konami for some third party characters (Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Solid Snake).

Eh, I don’t know about this. Like someone else said, Smash Brothers works because all the characters are basically cartoons – the environment and game play they come from is elastic enough that a collective brawling game works for them; there isn’t a need to force the characters to gel together because they could all conceivable come from the same universe with the same set of rules.

This really isn’t true for Sony. Their collective characters run the gamut of hyper-realistic to silly. They would either have to choose between the two extremes – which would piss players off – or just “go with it”, which would make for a really weird and unbalanced game. How do you get two characters from polar opposite universes/game styles to fit in the same game comfortably? Just imagine Nathan Drake fighting Sack Boy. No thanks.

I can't help but think that Kratos would brutally murder everyone on the lists posted. Unless they power him down somewhat, like they did to Superman in MK vs. DCU.
