Where did you get those quotes from Payaso? Adam West said Mickey Rooney was the original choice for the role of Penguin, but the negotiations broke down and it went to Burgess.

They're wrong on that one then. In Adam West's book, he said Mickey Rooney was first choice for Penguin, then it went to Burgess.

Just got the HUB channel and am thrilled that they are airing this series! I have introduced it to my 9 year old daughter and she is excited to watch Batman for the first time!!! Its such an awesome feeling to pass down the love for these characters and for her to pick it up the same way I first did with this family friendly series!
Not to mention a lot of the humer is definitely adult oriented and my wife & I both were enjoying it as much as she was!

Fascinating bit of info regarding the movie spin off is the salaries every actor was paid: Adam West ---$100,000 Burt Ward-- $35,000 Alan Napier-- $3,750 Neil Hamilton--$4,400 Stafford Repp--- $3,300 Madge Blake----$1,250.00 Cesar Romero---$16,000 Burgess Meredith----$35,000 Frank Gorshin---$12,000 Lee Meriwether---$10,000 Gil Perkins (Bluebeard)---$4,000 Dick Crockett (Morgan) ---$2,400 George Sawaya (Quetch) ---$2,000 Milton Frome----$500.00 Reginald Denny----$1,500 U.S President (voice) $250.00 Security Council Delegates---$250.00 Leslie H. Martinson (director) ---$23,250.00 Lorenzo Semple (writer) --$50,000 (includes screenplay and treatment) Burgess was paid triple what Frank and Lee were, and more than double what Cesar was paid. Not surprising since Penguin had more to do in the movie than any of the villains. Although I think Lee Meriwether deserved more than she got for this movie since her character had a lot more material to do than Riddler and Joker. She had that whole duality of the Miss Kitka stuff with Bruce Wayne as well as her Catwoman scenes. But I guess since Lee was the newbie and Cesar and Frank were veterans to the show, they got paid more.

Whoa its cool to see how much they got paid for something as big as that film for the time in history compared to what actors get paid these days.

Absolutely love '66 Batman. Riddler was my favorite villain because that crazy laugh and absurd riddles that only made sense to Batman and Robin.

I remember as a kid thinking why was Batman without his suit for so long in the movie. Then I heard - and maybe read in thsi very thread - that Adam West demanded so, so he could shjow his skills as a serious actor. In fact I think he said he acted Bruce Wayne differently from the TV series.

It's true, West requested more Bruce Wayne scenes in the movie. He loves the scenes with Miss Kitka aka Catwoman. His Bruce Wayne never really got to show genuine romantic feelings for someone so this was a rare treat for him.

Re: Batman 1966 appreciation thread
I always loved the cheesiness of this tv show but one of my fave things about it was the Batmobile. I just ordered this from Polar Lights (maker of the 66 Batmobile kit): Batmobile: Deluxe Edition. I cannot wait to get it, and build it, and put it next to my 1989 Batmobile
.

I LOVE the '66 movie. So many wonderful things...the Bat-repellant shark spray, "somedays, you can't get rid of a bomb," and of course, the ending, where B&R royally screw up everything by inadvertantly switching all of the personalities of the UN members into the wrong bodies. The look they give each other when they figure out what's happened and then bolt outside the window to avoid any backlash for what they did is fantastic.
