TNT greenlights 'Dallas'

If they get someone else to be the showrunner it could be good. Its TNT so it will probably be watched by 6 million but won't have the buzz like Mad Men. Plus Fox has Lonestar next week.

I think they are going for the Mad Men type audience....most of the big shows on cable are directed towards men, I think this show will shoot for the middle of the road

I think she's doing theater right now....who knows....if they announced Brewster this week, the rest of the cast should be coming together in the next month or so....start filming the pilot in April or May

Victoria Principal's character (Pamela) is dead in the story. She won't be coming back unless it's in the shower (and she's too old for that to be titilating).

I would've preferred a reboot than a sequel. I don't really want to see Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray again. I'd like to see new actors playing those same roles. Plus that would mean we would also get Pamela again (since she wouldn't be dead) and also Cliff Barnes, Miss Ellie and Jock. It could be back to early Dallas in its heyday rather than a continuation of Dallas when it was past its sell-by-date and had already jumped the shark.

Exclusive: Dallas Adds Jesse Metcalfe, Mars Grad Julie Gonzalo

Former Desperate Housewives gardener Jesse Metcalfe has landed the role of Bobby and Pam Ewing’s adopted son Christopher on TNT’s in-the-works Dallas sequel series. Metcalfe was one of two finalists for the role, the other being Alex Russell. Additionally, Veronica Mars alum Julie Gonzalo has scored a major role in the much-buzzed-about project.

The updated Dallas, from Cane creator Cynthia Cidre, centers on the offspring of dueling brothers J.R. and Bobby Ewing — J.R.’s son, John Ross (Josh Henderson) and his cousin Christopher (Metcalfe, most recently of NBC’s Chase) — who clash over the future of the Ewing dynasty while the fate of Southfork itself weighs in the balance.

Gonzalo, who most recently starred on Eli Stone, will play Rebecca, Christopher’s fiancee.

Thoughts?

The two new male leads aren't doing it for me at all, I have to say. But Gonzalo? That makes it better.

If Hawaii Five-O managed to re-use and recast all the original characters from the 60s series, why not do the same for Dallas? I don't really want to see a sequel about characters with whom I have no affinity. I'd prefer to see new versions of the same old characters like JR and Bobby. It would be interesting to see someone else's take on these people. Who cares about John Ross and Christopher?

I think they are going this route because its topical, big oil is slowly dying and you can do a lot of things with that in a highly dramatic setting

plus Metcalfe did ok on 'Chase', and the women they have cast so far are all smokin'

Well clearly none I suppose, since no-one can tell the difference between classic characters like JR, Bobby, Sue Ellen and Pam, and newer characters like John Ross and Christopher. Why not set it in a different country while we're at it since it makes no difference, and have it about something other than oil.
