Default Imagine you're not a comic book reader and you're watching wolverine for first time?

just for record i know who gambit is and i know his power but...

imagine your watching wolverine as a film viewer, had never read the comics or seen the cartoons, which im sure there are some, and tell me...

what was gambits power? what would you think it was? as it was never made clear

I think this is a bit of a redundant question. Just because they didn't go into the ins and outs of Gambit's power, doesn't mean his power was unclear.

In a nutshell, in line with your question, his power was to be able to explode things by charging an object with energy.

Now, having seen the cartoons, I knew what Gambit's power was before I saw the movie, so make of my answer what you will.

It was never an issue in the movie what Gambit's power exactly is. Gambit was never meant to be explored in XOW. He was a side character and everything could be explained in a Gambit movie, which, unfortunately, won't happen anytime soon.

So if his power was or wasn't made clear in XOW is a moot point.

I had this problem too. If you had no knowledge of the character, in the movie it just felt he was a magic man. He could do whatever the heck he wanted. You could argue the fact he made stuff explode is explanatory, but he also made cards hurt people on contact, make cards fly and he could do giant flips and acrobatic leaps that no normal person could do. He was able to make his staff stick to a side of a building. He was even able to spin his staff and make it slow his fall. It just seemed like he had a million abilities if you had no knowledge of who Gambit is. They should have really clarified that he charged objects with kinetic energy.

To say that since he was a side character his power shouldn't be even explained on a base level is silly to me. Just one line from Wraith explaining what the kid could do or Wolverine asking it to Gambit on the plane would have been sufficient. X1 and X2 made a point to clarify far more obvious abilities.

wel thats kinda ruined the point, im trying to say imagine you aint someone who read the comics or seen the cartoons then you have no idea who he is, and if you try and figure out what his power is then u would have a hard time as he done so much except "explode things by charging an object with energy"

i have read the comics and seen the toons, but these films aint made just for followers, they are also made for general movie viewers

I did. That's why I gave such a basic description "in line with your question", I didn't say it was kinetic energy which the general movie goer wouldn't know.

I forgot about the acrobatics. My new answer:to be able to explode things by charging an object with energy and being good at acrobatics.

I agree that his powers weren't explained and the fact that he levitated his cards probably confused some people, but it was the artistic license that Hood took with just how Remy uses his powers, and I thought it was good for what it was. The helicopter bo staff was a little ridiculous, but I guess it worked out for that fight

Unfortunately this movie entered with the arrogant notion that everybody would just know who everyone was and what they did, and the only characters they really explained were those that they created for the movie. Don't get me wrong, I don't dismiss the idea of a comic book film made just for the fans, but in this case I would say that while that may have been the intent it fell greatly short of the objective. While as a huge Wolverine fan their were many moments that I ooed and awed about, their were so many plot holes and just plain lack of information that as someone who has read every piece of Wolverine literature I can get my hands on...I was just left wanting.

In the specific case of Gambit their were many issues, and much of it in my opinion stems from the Actor. I have met Taylor Kitch in person as I worked with him on the TV series Friday Night Lights here in Austin, and from the way he talks I can tell you that he didn't ever seems to be any real comic book fan. That's nothing against him personally, you like what you like and you don't what you don't, but in his case their never seemed to be any passion when discussing Gambit, and when asked about other characters he never seemed to have anything to go on. As an actor he is...okay, but as you saw in Wolverine he can't hold much of an accent. In fact it took him a while to grasp the simple Texan accent used for Friday night Lights, and to be honest I didn't see a bit of difference between the two. Most actors, most not all, who take on the role of a comic book character seem to get really excited about the literature behind that character and bring their desires for what they would like to see from that character to the Director and to the film. As Taylor never appeared to be concerned with much aside from his paycheck...and the ability to "Really hit people on set", it doesn't surprise me that the character had a lack luster transition on film.

I thought Sabretooth's power was made pretty clear to me (from a view point of a non-fan, as much as I can view it like that).

But still, after two films with him you'd think they'd give Sabretooth and shot to show his face healing like they did with Wolverine and Deathstrike.

Well... Jean has telepathy AND telekenisis so.

Wolverine probably had the healing factor, so when he bones came out of his hand, the healing factor allowed him to "keep" or retract them

From what I heard the healing factor is a detriment in that respect since it's the reason why it hurts each time he pops his claws. It basically forces him to make new holes each time.

But wont it be even more painful if your hand had three slots open all the time. The healing factor seals it up

I think healing factors were supposed to have been implanted by Weapon X, or something like that (like how Deadpool enlisted to heal his cancer, he did it because Weapon X could heal him), but eventually it was stated that Wolverine has his own healing factor.

No, Wolverine had his healing factor as a power since it was regarded as a power. The only reason Sabretooth had a healing factor too was because he was retconned into having one when he became an enemy of the X-Men. And then Chris Claremont planned to have Sabretooth be Wolverine's dad to explain why they had the same powers but it was changed so they were old war buddies instead when Claremont left and the similar powers were basically a coincidence. I actually like the brothers aspect in this movie since it made sense why Wolverine and Sabretooth would have variations on the same basic abilities while keeping the war buddies aspect.

Also, Wolverine's claws were originally planned to be given by the Weapon X program but it was changed in the 90s when Wolverine had his adamantium ripped out of him by Magneto and it was revealed he had bone claws underneath. Probably so they could have had the dramatic effect of Wolverine having his adamantium removed while also not having Wolverine run around without claws for almost an entire decade. So the original plan was for Wolverine to just have the healing factor and animal senses.
