I would guess James Horner....same guy as Rocketeer (he'll probably use some of those same themes as well ).

I'd prefer Alan Sylvestri....but dear Lord please don't let it be Elfman.

I think Williams would be perfect for this movie, but I don't see it happening.

Needs a big time name. You can get by with classic rock songs for IM. If you don't bring in a big name for this, your head needs to be examined.

Hate to be a ballbuster, but to those wanting John, Mr. Williams won't happen. He only does the occasion Speilberg movie, none else. I bet he won't even do HP8.

Alan Silverstri's music instantly comes to mind for some reason. Some of his music in BTTF and others reminds me of Cap.

Williams would be awesome as usual, but realistically, Silverstri would be great.

Silvestri would be my top choice as well, with Giacchino a close second.

James Horner would be good. I hope not Danny Elfman though. We don't need a quirky score for Cap.

If he were still alive, I'd say Jerry Goldsmith would be ideal. His work on Star Trek: Voyager or movies like Air Force One would be the sound that Captain America should have. His oldest son Joel Goldsmith is also a composer, but I don't know what he's like, although he did work on the Star Trek: First Contact score with his father.

Silvestri in particular, I feel, would be ideal to capture some of the 40's period flavor in the film, and weaving that in to the larger score.

Also, the guy who did Transformers came up with some very nice stuff for that movie. Despite what one's feeling are about the film itself, the score was quite strong.

in addition to the actual composers...I think there are some key musical approaches that really should be vital to the Cap score. Like something reflecting the romanticism and patriotism of the 40's era, a strong 'military' type piece at least his early missions, etc. Some strong 'grass roots' aspects, if you will.

Jablonsky would be good, him or giaccino. Or maybe a musician, they can usually make distinct and memorable notes instead of generic background noise if i recall correctly nick cave did a good job on assassination of jesse james.

Nah, this film needs an accomplished film composer. I think Slivestri and Giacchino have particularly strong melodic styles (although I wasn't crazy about Giacchino's work on Star Trek). Plus, this story has a lot of rich nostalgic elements which you'd want to address, musically, with appreciation, rather than with irony or getting too avante garde/artsy. Not that I'm expecting the music...or even the movie, really...to be on the level of Raiders/Star Wars or Superman: The Movie, but I still think the majority of the scoring should be orchestral and big. Just good, solid, adventure-movie music.

He's very good...but I think his style is better suited to a different kind of story,,,maybe something more 'off-center', if you will.

But then again...while I was using some temp tracks for a film I was editing, i used tracks from 'League of Their Own' and 'Big'. And I was honestly surprised to see who the composers were for those, because I wouldn't have expected it.

Hans Zimmer and Howard Shore, respectively.

Put it this way...I think Cap is better served with the musical equivalent of a powerful muscle car rather than a European luxury coupe. Both have their own unique place and value to different drivers' needs.

Angelo Badalamenti.

Always thought that the whole conception of Captain America is, like, really twisted.

Maybe if Roman Polanski was directing it.

Or David Lynch.

And, now that I consider it, Lars von Trier could have transformed the third part of his American trilogy, Washington, into Captain America.
