I have no doubt that the movie is going to make lots of money, I just want it to be half way decent for the sake of the director and the star.

Love 'The Sixth Sense', 'Unbreakable', 'Signs' and 'The Village' - but meh to all of his other works. I've got a soft spot for the guy but as said he's gone off the rails. I want him to come back to us in a strong way, but will he?

That's more than half of his films.
Which means he's great the majority of the time.

4 out of 7 is pretty damn good when you consider most directors. That's how I've always looked at it.

He's 3 films off track - He simply needs to get back on track.

To me his last chance was The last Airbender. Let's say that this one will be his comeback film; he then needs more than one film to make that comeback legit.

I look at The Last Airbender like I look at Batman & Robin: bombarded and riddled with studio interference, producers forcing harsh edits and re-cuts, not letting the director truly do what he wants. The Last Airbender's original cut was over 3 hours. If Night had any say in that 3+hour cut, we would've gotten a completely different movie.

Night LOVES that animated series. In every interview you see of him, his eyes just light up and he gets googly over how much he and his kids obsessed over it. He was the PERFECT choice to write/direct that movie, and it would've been his comeback, had it not been for studio interference. He was passionate about that project. Unfortunately, his name is attached to that movie, so it must be ALL Night's fault.

Passionate but misguided.

How many times have you seen directors say they're fans of something but they're full of it?

I think the studio played a role but let's not excuse M. Night. After three prior misfires, he's responsible for his own actions.

i like that the suit has a retro feel. and its not very glossy. it looks very matte. i like it.

i hope that Will Smith will not force the studio to use bad take's from Jadan. he was decent in Karate. but we know that some kids works as actors only when they are young. knowing that Will Smith is obssed with everything being save i think he payed a lot money on acting lessons for Jaden.

That extra hour or so must've been from something entirely different because even individual scenes within the actual movie itself were pretty terrible. Nothing that was supplemental could've fixed it. Despite how much he claims to love the series, what happens at the climax showed me he missed the point.

Eh....

I haven't liked any of his movies after The Sixth Sense but to each their own.

Okay, the Last Airbender is not going off track. It's driving straight off a cliff. I doubt the man's reputation will ever recover. Nor should it.

I can't really imagine he thought it was a good movie. You almost think he might be a double agent, trying to sabotage Nickelodeon. Intentionally making the worst movie possible.

This may be the first time since 1997 someone has gotten top billing over Will.

He's going to keep pimping his kid out there until he can stand on his own. As expected Shyamalan's name is nowhere on there.

M Night (a decade post his last good film) and Will Smith co-starring with Will Smith's kid (yay for nepotism!).

Honestly you couldn't pay me enough to see this. Some movies you just know will suck months before they come out. This is one of them.

Well, in defense of Jaden, he wasn't bad in the Karate Kid.
