Seriously, Cypher Raige? Sounds like a Mortal Kombat character.

The only time I have seen him as a truly great writer and filmmaker/storyteller in the past was once, 13 years ago.

Really? You didn't like Signs or Unbreakable? Now I haven't seen Sixth Sense in years, but I do prefer those two films.

I haven't seen his later work, but you wouldn't put Signs and Unbreakable alongside Lady in the Water or Last Airbender would you?

I definitely don't think he's a one-hit wonder, but after his past several movies, I think he may be too far gone now.

I have had a similar experience with many of the Shyamalan films.

Sixth Sense, I thought it was just great.

The rest either had me hooked until the ending, which was indescribably stupid (Unbreakable, Signs, The Village) or plain bad (Lady in the Water, The Happening and I guess the last one which I'm not seeing).

It was extremely interesting except for a couple of things.

The comic book approach was sometimes too plain (like those description Mr. Glass gives of comic books covers. I mean, it is fairly obvious even for a child that bad guys are drawn ugly and menacing and heroes are well-proportioned).

I felt that while David Dunn's condiotion remains vague (we don't know if he's a superhero or just a normal guy) the movie works much better.

David's powers are strange. Suddenly he finds out he has powers and cannot die. But his past life doesn't seem to have shown him anything like it, as he hardly believes he's different.

And David's weaknesses are just absurd. Water??? Has he ever drink water? Has he ever taken a shower? Has he ever realized he's 73% water? And let's just say water doesn't feel, sound like a weakness, it doesn't make any sense how water could be fatal for a superhero.

And the ending is absurd. In a world that's decribed as real, you have a man with weak bones who thinks: since I like comics, there has to be superheroes (excuse me? how did he get to the conclusion styarting just from the existence of comics?), and the logical way to find them is bombing trains randomly (again, pardon?). Well no. Chances are, in a world with superhero comics there's a fat chance they are for real, and even if they were, you won't find them bombing people. Unless you expect them, to come flying to rescue the innocent. But it's not even teh case.

I couldn't buy it.

Teaser Trailer To Be Attached To The Hobbit
Quote:
e the filming for After Earth is finished, we’ve been talking about the first trailer and its debut. We thought a teaser was going to be attached in front of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ and if not in front of Sony’s new Spidey movie, maybe in front of ‘Total Recall or the new bond film, ‘Skyfall.’ But, it seems like that’s not the case, for according to Mr. Shyamalan himself who revealed it via twitter recently after someone asked him if he could hint when the first trailer will arrive and Mr. Shyamalan said: “It will be seen around Christmas on a film with a very short protagonist. “ Yes, that means it’s goinng to be attached in front of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, which is going to be released on December 14th, 2012. Now this just gave us another reason to watch The Hobbit on the big screen. After Earth is currently in post-production and it is scheduled for release on June 7, 2013.

Australian based VFX Team Iloura Working SFX
Quote:
An Australian based VFX company known as Iloura has won work on After Earth. The company is currently working on the sci-fi film and has 150 shots and one of five or six vendors are working on the big budget film. Business development and marketing director, Caroline Pitcher told Encore: “We are starting on a package of 150 shots and that will grow over the period of the project. We’ve started work already and we will deliver final shots in the first quarter of 2013.”
The majority of Iloura’s work will be creature animations as well as matte painting and VFX scenes.
This work for VFX Company is an extension partnership with US-based Creative Cartel and won the work off the back of Omnilab Company’s work on Seth MacFarlane’s Ted aswell as Where The Wild Things Are

Signs was a terrible movie. Granted, it did have a few good scenes (in the sense that they were actually scary). But the alien's weakness? The way characters behaved?

Water is like acid to the aliens. So naturally, they go invade a planet which is covered almost entirely by water. To capture people made up mostly of water. Oh and they do all this buck naked. Good thing they didn't invade during monsoon season, or they'd have to call the whole thing off.

Or my favorite bit...

Mel Gibson's character: Hey I found an alien locked in a pantry. Rather than call the authorities, I'm going to go home, and not mention it to anyone.

Not to mention the forced religious stuff.

LOL, Agreed... What if it rains??? oops.... And keep in mind the alien could not figure out how to open the pantry door, but can figure out how to invade another planet.

The twist was given in the title.
The second twist will be that it is earth from our past not future.

The trailer didn't really get me interested, can't judge the CGI until we see better quality though. What accent is Will Smith trying to do?

the trailer is IMO good. and the movie looks good. of course the chances that its a disaster are big since it is M.Night Shyalaman.but it needs to be good it needs to be good.

i also understand that people will think that the trailer is bad. it is a normal reflex. you know its M.Night and so its automatic

After Earth looks 100% more original and unique compared to Oblivion. but i have a better feeling for Oblivion then for After Earth . and its normal. it is M. Night.

Looks pretty cool. The begining made me jump. I couldn't believe that was Will Smith doing the narration. Sounded nothing like him (which is a good thing - he's a good actor, but he always acts like "Will Smith", so seeing him change his voice/accent is nice).
