I'd venture to say every movie Spielberg has made in the last 10 years, with the exception of Indy 4, is underrated.

I might call Indy 4 underrated too. Or at least overhated.

Same here. I don't want to get into a debate, but it pretty much got the same reception TOD got when it first came out minus the disgust from the violence.

Oh, and Rope from Hitchcock. One of my top favorites. I like it better than his regarded classics such as Vertigo and North by Northwest.

-It seemed like Indy 4 got pretty good reviews from critics, but fans were disappointed. And we all know how disappointed fans are. Thanks, Internet.
-Yes, Rope is fantastic.

I wasn't aware that The Rope wasn't considered one of Hitchcock's best. It certainly is a flawless masterpiece.

Return to Oz. An absolutely wonderful telling of the 2nd and 3rd Oz books. Great casting, decent special effects, and NO SINGING!

Sad that it came during Disney's "dry spell" in the 80's.

I've noticed how it's never mentioned on the best of lists. Everyone always talks about Vertigo, Rear Window, and North by Northwest, but not Rope which is kind of a shame.

It did. It's in the 70's percentile on RT.

I mean who wasn't disapointed by TOD when that came out? People were expecting another Raiders type of film and they got the exact opposite of it. Now no one seems to have a problem with it.

They both have over a 80% on rottentomatoes so generally critics loved it.

I think a lot of the people loving TOD now saw it when they were kids, and the nostalgia factor usually goes a long way. I saw it for the first time when I was 22 and still liked it a lot, but I can see it being one of those things that's not well liked at the time because it's too different from its predecessor.
