That's weird. Isn't there still a court battle to be fought between Activision and West & Zampella regarding who owns the Modern Warfare title?

Definitely. If Ubisoft can just fix the problems FarCry 2 had, while retaining the same feel, they'd have a killer game on their hands.

I didnt think that was part of the battle was it? I thought Activision owned the CoD franchise outright?

O hell yea. The game wasnt without its problems, but i still feel its one of the better FPS titles. At least as far as single player goes.

Well even if they lose the title, they can still make a game and just slap another name on it. Call of Duty: Future Warfare?

The only way another MW would be good is if they made it like Bad Company 2. Which im pretty sure Battlefield 3 already has that covered, so yea, no need for another Modern Warfare. Just play the superior Battlefield.

Yeah, Activision definitely owns "Call of Duty", but I think "Modern Warfare" is technically a separate thing. After Call of Duty 2 West & Zampella set up this deal with Activision where they could do whatever they wanted with "Call of Duty", but Modern Warfare would be theirs.

I hope we don't get this for a few years. There's been a new COD game nearly every year for the past few years, we need a break before the series turns into a completely artistically devoid cash-cow. Black Ops is arguably one of the best in the series, let's enjoy it for a while.

Not going to happen. CoD sells millions and Black Ops broke records despite the negative rap Activision and the franchise got after the destruction of Infinity Ward earlier this year. Not only will we get a new CoD game every year, there's a strong chance we will get more than one. There have been talks of Activision expanding the franchis beyond the current FPS format into other genres as well as taking the FPS and spinning it off into different settings such as space. Until it stops selling, Activision will cash in and exploit it to its fullest

Yeah, that's pretty much Activision's strategy. Just look at how they handled Tony Hawk, and now Guitar Hero. Call of Duty is next.

I don't think mixing it up is a bad thing, far from it, but releasing multiple Call of Duty titles in a single year is a surefire way to burn it out fast.

I get where you are coming from, but if you dont like them releasing a CoD every year, dont buy one every year. There are some ppl out there who just cant get enough of this game for whatever reason and i say more power to em if they want to buy one every year. Im personally burned out on the series so im skipping Black Ops, maybe when the next one rolls around, ill check it out but im done for now.

It will be interesting to see Sledgehammer's take on the series.

I would hope that Respawn would just put all that behind them and move on to make something awesome and not get bogged down in some legal mess over the title of the next COD game.

I'm no lawyer, but even if the name "Modern Warfare" is a separate thing, I think Activison has every legal right to call it "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3".

I dont think Modern Warfare carries much weight. Remember they were going to call the last game Modern Warfare 2 but there was backlash from fans and that decision got criticized so they went and renamed it Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The CoD title is the thing thats selling and the most recognizable part of the series

I dont think there was 'backlash' from the fans per-se, but the consumer was too stupid to realize that Modern Warfare 2 was a sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. So Activision slapped the CoD name back on and the drooling morons realized it was another CoD game and ran out to preorder it.

I'm skipping Black Ops as well, more due to how Activision treated West & Zampella. Not buying anymore Call of Duty games actually, there's plenty of other great FPS' if I want one. Also enjoying how other games are incorporating multiplayers other than just death matches, like Dead Rising 2 and looking forward to Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, but probably won't get that till after or for Christmas.

but again that would be a case of the CoD name being the thing that sells.
