Why are you all casting so old? How about Dennis Quaid?

Christopher Plummer is still my #1 choice for Jonathan Kent

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001626/

He does these types of films (Priest, Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) and is an incredibly respected actor.

I love Chris Plummer, but I don't think I could ever see him as a salt of the earth farmer. A certain Gotham butler on the other hand...

Alfred is better suited for British actors like Caine.

Plummer definitely has the range to pull off JK. He's a character actor. All his roles are vastly different.

No to Plummer for me. GREAT actor, but too old. I'd rather they didn't go down the Donner or Dean Cain-era route of having a fairly old/unfit Jonathan Kent - as an example Smallville brought in a younger version (John Schneider) and it worked great onscreen, better choice for a modern audience IMO.

Personally I'd like to see Tom Selleck in the role, playing off Meryl Streep as Martha.

Everything in Smallville is supposed to be old, that's the idea. Smallville is supposed to be an old, idyllic farmtown, the complete opposite of the youthtful, fast-paced Metropolis.

Making Pa and Ma Kent young and hip.. just doesn't work.

Even the post-crisis (John Byrne comics) and Superman TAS, the Kents were older and it felt right.

Stephen McHattie looks like a Jonathan Kent and could likely end up getting the part because of Watchmen.

Or what about McHattie's secret brother?
