We don't know that Nikki Minaj replaced Steven Tyler. She could've replaced J-Lo, or since there are now 4 judges instead of 3, she could've just replaced a coffee cup or empty chair.
 Besides, while Steven Tyler was fun in the pre-live bits, he basically just repeated himself throughout the live rounds. His first season, everything was "Beautiful". His second, everything was "Over the top".
