How about Full Metal Alchemist? It sounds pretty interesting. I'm really just looking for a good overall story

It really depends on what you're looking for, if you want a battle anime, a realistic one, a story with good world building, a comedy or even something dramatic.
Fullmetal Alchemist's a good choice, there are 2 differents animes of it and while Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a reboot of the previous anime since the 2nd half of the 2003 version went into a different direction from the manga i advise you to watch both. If you're looking for anime shows besides movies and like battle ones i would recomend Hunter X Hunter, there's an old one of this series but the new one's a reboot (like Brotherhood but without cutting as much material the previous anime covered) and is right now by episodes 60s. It's plot is very good and at this pace it will still last for 1 or 2 years before it reaches the manga. The manga is from 1998 or 97 but keeps going on hiatuses, which is why the last anime's so old. If you don't mind spoilers then here's one of the best scenes of latest episodes: VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:
Another long running battle anime i recomend if you have a lot of free time is One Piece, amazing world building, characters and plot. It has already broken the selling records of Dragon Ball and it's the best-selling book of any kind in Japan, outselling Naruto more than 3 times. However i don't recomend you to watch a few and stop, it just keeps getting better and better, however in episodes 400s the anime gets a slow pacing so that it won't catch up to the manga so easily.

I also need a new anime to watch. I think I'll go with Ronin Warriors. I haven't watched it since the 90's.

Naruto and One Piece both have just waaaaay too many episodes lol. Think I'm gonna give FMA a chance. I'm weird about anime honestly. I've tried numerous shows out GITS, Trigun, Evangelion and couldn't get into any of them. Death Note is the only one that has sucked me in enough to watch every episode. I really should've given ghost in the shell another shot too.

Then besides FMA i recomend Hunter X Hunter, it's still relativelly short and won't be half as long as One Piece or Naruto. If you liked Death Note then maybe you could try Mirai Nikki, it's a little too crazy for me but i dunno, maybe you'll find it more interesting than i did.
If you're looking for a more piece of life story then try Bakuman, it's from the creator of Death Note and is about two kids trying to become famous mangakas and make one that becomes into a successful anime. You learn a lot about how Japanese manga magazines work. If you like period stories then try Rurouni Kenshin, it's about samurais, if you want to try something that's very new then i recomend Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. I haven't been watching Magi latelly but the manga's greatl and it's success show that it's becoming the next big shonen. Both these shows that i mentioned haven't been past episode 20 yet if i'm not mistaken

Think I'm gonna watch Inuyasha. I used to watch random episodes all the time when I was younger and it was always pretty dope. Think I'll be able to get into it just fine. I'd like to be able to get into Bleach but damn, lot of episodes there

I started it like two years ago and got maybe 5 episodes in. I love the movies but t I was expecting more from the show. I'll eventually give it another go I'm sure it just didn't suck me in really.

So instead of 366 episodes you only have to watch about 207.

Yep, the Bount arc did try to fit into canon and some characters of it appeared in the canonical episodes in the begining, but that idea was eventually droped and they don't confuse the plot that much. If you want to try the filler after you end the series then do it, but i advise you to skip it.

People have brought up bleak and/or thrilling excellent anime like Ergo Proxy and Monster, as well as many others, but I'll also mention Texhnolyze in the same sentence. It starts slow with the first batch of somewhat inaccessible episodes but gets ****ed up in the plot and it's great. I really have to rewatch all of these some day but I still have a backlog... Oh I also love a lot of Satoshi Kon's work, as his name was brought up in the thread. Keeping with the previous three I just mentioned, I love the first part of the less well-known Memories film, the work entitled "Magnetic Rose." That's awesome stuff. Dark and thrilling. So, so good.

I just finished Eureka AO, not quite as good as Eureka 7, but wasn't bad. If you're wanting mech, and have ran through Gundam, TTGL, and so on, the Eureka series isn't bad. I'm giving Gundam AGE a shot now, and I can see the complaints of it being more of a kids Gundam. Not totally juvenile, but definitely aimed more towards a younger audience than your usual Gundam. Which isn't always a bad thing, considering one of my favorite Gundams, Turn A, was more light hearted.
Lately I've been wanting more Hajime no Ippo though. The third season of new challenger seems to have been in limbo forever. I do recommend the series though. I'm not a boxing fan, but loved this series, it's really well done, IMO.
