You were of the opinion the movie shouldn't be made as i recall, some good debates over there back then.

And you found that proof strictly through Titanic lol? That's rulee #1 of selling a film and marketing it. How many people can it appeal to? I just found it a little farfetch that a film like Titanic made so much money because even though it appeals, it really didn't offer as much new as say Star Wars or E.T. before it.

You're just reinforcing my point that being new and innovative isn't everything, and many perfectly good and occasionally great things aren't.

I was of that opinion, I then realized I was being extremely belligerent...

Numbers don't lie, man

there were people going to see it 5,6,7 times....add in that there wasn't much competition when it came out and it was a perfect storm of $$$

True. I'd say the main reason why Avatar grossed so much wasn't the main technology, but because there wasn't anything else out at the time. If the only movie to rival it (Sherlock Holmes) came out a week or better yet two weeks later it would've over-taken Avatar for #1 at the box office.

But for Avatar to be knocked off as the high grossing film ever, several other good big budget films would've have to been released at the time.

Because everybody loves Avatar. Especially here. This place is the Brady Bunch household for it. You can feel the love in every thread. And you can smell the fresh cookies.

So I saw two films in the cinema back to back yesterday on my own. I am hardcore, well not really wish I went to see a third now. Maybe another time.

http://www.hulu.com/criterion

Don't know if anyone will be interested or not, but The Criterion Collection has struck a deal with Hulu to stream a lot of their rather rich library to it (and then some, since I noticed several that's been licensed, but not released on physical format, yet). The catch is, unfortunately, you have to Hulu Plus to access them. If you have Netflix, a lot of these are on instant stream as well (though I don't know if this deal with affect that or not), but for those who have Hulu Plus and want something a little different, might be worth checking out.

Cool, though I have Netflix but it's great that they're expanding to Hulu.

I always wanted to do that, but I never felt comfortable spending so much time in theater for different movies yet.

My wife and I hit two movies back to back a couple of summers ago. It was brutally hot, but we felt like being out of the house. It killed a whole afternoon, but it was pretty cool.

I didn't want to bump an old thread, so I thought I'd put this question here:

Does anyone know what is going on with the Red Dawn remake? Is it dead?

The original has been on cable a ton lately (yeah, I love all of it's 80's cheese) and it got me thinking about the remake. I haven't heard any news about it in a long time. As far as I remember, it is pretty much finished shooting and then just died.
