You might have to explain that one.

Nah, not really. I haven't even gone overboard on the people who think Gillen's Uncanny is great - more just a generalized spanking.

Sometimes it's not worth going after the crazies and trying to make them see sense.

Just for the sake of argument, I'm gonna start comparing Fraction's run to Gillen's.

Fraction's first solo arc - "Lovelorn"
Gillen's first solo arc - "Breaking Point"

"Lovelorn" was a great story told on two fronts. Peter's story was a heartfelt tale of him getting over the loss of Kitty while also getting revenge on the man who killed his father. Meanwhile, Hank & Warren had a hilariously awesome adventure of SCIENCE as they assembled the X-Club.
"Breaking Point" featured Cyclops inviting a bitter enemy who tried to destroy the Earth to live on Utopia. Then after said enemy betrays Scott's trust, Scott moves him to a densely populated major American city as a gesture of logic-defying good faith.

Point goes to Fraction.

The upcoming "Losing Hope" will be going up against "Sisterhood." Gillen would have to screw up BIG TIME in order to lose to Fraction's worst arc.

"losing hope" was just a one-and-done though, right?

because this issue definitely beats "sisterhood"
but like you said, gillen would seriously have to bone it to do worse than that one

I read that Hope issue. I liked it. It does seem oddly placed as an UXM issue instead of Gen Hope, but it was still good nonetheless. Was great seeing Roberson draw an X-title again. I wish he was a regular

The issue was worth the cover price to support Roberson's art career, and that's about it.

The story belonged in Generation Hope, first and foremost. I'll defend a story for the sake of a story being a story, but when there's a title where the story would obviously fit, and said title is written by the guy writing the story in a different title, I draw the line there.

Two, Uncanny is an ensemble-cast book. Anyone who **** and *****ed about Fraction using the same three or four or however many characters while keeping a recurring cast of background fodder should be *****ing in spades here.

Three, it furthers no stories. It's a throwaway issue. Throwaway issues are fine, but see the first criticism.

Four, exactly whose story was this? It certainly seems Hope-centric as a Wolverine-to-the-Rescue tale, but there's very minute character development to her. Aside from definitively stating her mutant power is mimicking other mutants' powers (something Gillen couldn't be bothered to do in her own title, where the extent of her power is running around being heroine and touching people), there's really nothing else that we haven't seen from her in Cable. But if this is supposed to be a Hope story, then refer to criticism numero uno. And if this is supposed to be a Wolverine story? We get one spot of character development at the end of the issue for him, and really, this could have been conveyed easily in potentially any type of scene involving dialogue with other X-Men, possibly minus Hope or at least with Hope not front and center, in which case it would have belonged fine in Uncanny.

So yeah. You know, say what you want about Sisterhood - I'd have to reread it, but I'll agree it's Fraction's weakest work on Uncanny. But at least it involved, you know, X-Men.

Havent we already seen Hope mimic powers in Gen Hope? Granted I havent read the book since the first arc but she did mimic Kenji's powers and Gillen had Cyclops explicitily state thats exactly what she was doing in one of those earlier issues

Gotta say I'm a little saddened to hear the news about the ending of Uncanny X-Men. So they are restarting it, with a Cyclops led team and a Wolverine led team?

Meh. I prefer the comics when everything is together in a nice neat little package. But I'll probably check it out.

So is this "restart" thing - is it like starting over the X-Men story? Or is it continuing from the end of Uncanny X-Men with 2 new titles?

It's continuing but with the two new titles since them X-Men themselves are going to be splitting apart. The Uncanny team, and the Wolverine team.

Then I guess what I don't understand is why they don't just continue the Uncanny run with the Uncanny team, then create the new Wolverine & The X-Men book to run parallel with it.

PS: Titling a book Wolverine & The X-Men sucks.

I agree...naming the book Wolverine and the X-men seems to tell me its gonna be Wolverine with people in the background.
Can anyone tell me anything about The News...from Huey Lewis and the News
or Prince and the Revolution....in all instances its just the lead and people who happened to be behind them.

Not only can I not tell you anything about the Revolution, but I don't know the difference between the Revolution and the New Power Generation.
