It's not nostalgia blinders when I've been watching the entire series on DVD over the past few weeks and loving every moment of it.

Anything called WOLVERINE and the X-Men is inferior by default.

The 90's animated series holds a special place in my heart and childhood, but it was poorly made. It was filled with continuity errors, choppy animation, and horrible voice acting. From a technical standpoint, it's the worst animated series about the X-Men ever made.

I thought the voice acting for it was great. Nearly 20 years later, those remain the definitive voices for these characters. When I read my books, I imagine TAS voices in their place

The continuity errors were due to production troubles, and some episodes having to be pushed back, while others were pushed forward.

I don't see any problem with the animation. The voice acting... well it's a kid's Saturday morning cartoon. It's gonna be a bit cheesy. I don't see it as any worse than the X-Men: Evolution or Wolverine and the X-Men episodes I've seen.

However, it's certainly the most true to the source material and the spirit of the X-Men. It is literally the comic book brought to life, with stories, and even dialogue ripped right from the pages.

I thought the voice acting was pretty bad, along with the dialogue. It was over the top and cheesy in a bad way. The characters seemed more like caricatures than people. Being a Saturday morning cartoon is no excuse for bad acting and dialogue.

By comparison, I found the voice acting in X-Men Evolution much better. The characters felt more sincere and genuine. I never watched more than 10 minutes of Wolverine and the Backup Dancers, but what little I heard there seemed to be on par with X-Men Evolution.

X-Men TAS gets points for being the most faithful adaptation of the X-Men comics, but if I can judge the show by its own merits (not as an adaptation of a comic), I think it was the worst made X-Men cartoon.

Thank you Manic, I'm reminded why I hate Storm. It's like Claremont wrote all her TAS lines.

So I'm looking to pick up some trades in the not too distant future. I've been tracking down trades that I wanna collect once I start getting paid.

Is House of M in a trade? I never read that run, but from everything I hear about it, it sounds pretty big time.

As it is, I just picked up Civil War: X-Men, and some of the newer ones I'm looking to get are X-Men: Endangered Species, X-Men: Messiah Complex, and X-Men: Second Hope.

I got a few others that I'm looking for as well, which I'll pick up eventually, but those are some of the big ones I'm after.

Get HoM, then skip to Messiah Complex and Second Coming. That'll get you caught up really. Schism is the current X-event going on(alongside Fear Itself)

I think that Messiah Complex and Second Coming are definitely atop my list.

I know that Schism is the current run, but is it actually out yet? Or does my comic shop just not have it at the moment? All they had tonight was Prelude to Schism #1 and #2. Both were good. I definitely want to keep up with this full run.

Also - I just picked up Mutant Massacre and am reading it for the first time. Holy ****... that's some good stuff right there. If they keep making X-Men movies, I definitely wanna see this one adapted.

Yeah, Schism is only 1 issue in right now. Messiah Complex will take you into War of Kings, if you like the cosmic stuff.

Ehh? Messiah Complex will take you into Messiah War and then Second Coming.

Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire will take you into War of Kings and the cosmic stuff.

So is Endangered Species part of the bigger House of M / Messiah Complex / Second Coming arc? What about Divided We Stand, where does that fit in?

And no, I'm not particularly a fan of all the cosmic stuff. I prefer the X-Men when they are grounded on Earth, dealing with the whole "protecting those who fear and hate them" bit. I know when your run last 50 years you gotta flip it up a bit, but the cosmic space fighting stuff is usually where I tend to check out.

Endangered Species follows the aftermath of House of M. It lets you know how desperate mutantkind is getting. Sure, read it if you want. It's not bad or anything.

Divided We Stand takes place immediately after Messiah Complex. It doesn't follow the overall arc started by House of M; it's more of an aftermath thing. After you read the end of Messiah Complex, you'll see that something big happens to the X-Men as a whole, and that leads to Divided We Stand, which in turn leads to Manifest Destiny (the story of the X-Men's move to San Francisco). Uncanny X-Men: Divided We Stand isn't at all important, but it's pretty damn fun. It's fun filler, basically. Feel free to skip it.

Okay, so basically then, I just really need House of M, Messiah Complex, and Second Coming, with Endangered Species and Divided We Stand basically being "when I have extra money, and already have the other trades on my list" type buys?

Oh yeah. How could I ignore Brubaker's year long arc lol. And I totally forgot about Messiah War

I would say its bad and avoid it. That thing was pretty boring and not necesary reading material for anything that follows

I didn't enjoy it either; boring not bad. 198 was a waste too.

Cal Dodd is to Wolverine what Kevin Conroy is to Batman.
