Default Buffy Season 8

Preview pages:

TV Guide interview with Joss about the comic.

I know there was a thread a while ago, but I'm not gonna bump it. Let's face it, if there's a Buffy thread, it should be mine.

The first issue is set for March 2007. Read the above interview, it's a great read, and the best part about it is that Joss confirms plans to use Angel & Spike in this book (people were worried because Dark Horse doesn't have the rights to Angel characters). Awesome

I just finished up season 8 today. Like most here, I enjoyed it, but I thought it went too over the top at times. I also didn't care for the way Angel was throughout it. I read the first 2 volumes of Angel: After the Fall. I'm wondering where that Angel series stops being in canon. Is it after vol. 4?

Someone mentioned that people should read Fray before reading the Time Of Your Life trade.

I guess the story would make more sense if you did. I couldn't find it so I just did a quick wiki search to learn her story that way I wouldn't be completely lost.

They did one offs for Riley and Willow. Didn't read Riley's but Willows was collected in the Twilight trade and was pretty good.

Only the season 8 comics are actually in the TV show's continuity. The other comics Dark Horse has put out over the years aren't. Except maybe The Origin--that was a comic based on what Whedon actually wanted the original movie to be, supposedly. I believe Whedon's officially endorsed it.

Alright, so I just read the final two issues of Season 8 today. It sort of blew my mind.

The story had become so big and unwieldy that I think it was losing track of itself--and I was certainly losing track of it. Meaning and drama was being lost there, but I understand the goal now: to make it so big, so massive in it's scale that it had to collapse on itself; so big the only thing to do would be to scrap it all.

It feels like a reboot, but without the reboot. It's a strange old/new world, and that's really exciting. I think those final pages felt more like Buffy than anything in a long time, and season 8 succeeds as a massive, ridiculous road to get there.

The loss of Giles sort of breaks my heart. He's my favourite character, but I think maybe Whedon felt he finally had to cut the cord for good--a seed that was planted way back in season five.

It was a sad ending, but it has me more excited for season nine than I've been since this book was first announced years ago. I'm pretty stoked to see the back to basics approach--and I think what this finale achieved was to make the world feel dangerous again, which hasn't been true for any of season 8. Looking forward to more fallout from these events, too--I think the death of Giles was a little glossed over.

Incidentally; the scythe was destroyed, but it appears in Fray, right? I guess somebody repairs it or builds a new one? I think it would have been cool if the scythe had stuck around, even without it's magic--it was an iconic weapon for Buffy, and i thought that was cool. Also, what's the situation with demons? Are they still left in the world, or is it just the human (or partially human) creatures like the slayers and vamps that were able to remain? Or is it simply magic that's gone out of the world, and not (formerly) magical creatures?

I just read the first Volume and it was awesome. I'm stoked for the second Volume. The dialogue is just perfect in my opinion and I like Xanders line about wanting to be called Fury. It was good fun and I enjoyed this.

I think the Tales of the Vampires and Tales of the Slayers miniseries are canon too.

Yes, they are, as is Fray. Sorry, forgot about those.

I just finished the second Vol. that more or less contained the bank robbery and Faiths little story and made a dumb ****ing retcon about Willow moving Tara in the path of the bullet. Really how ****ing stupid is that? I'll tell you how ****ing stupid that is, its so ****ing stupid that even retards would think "Hey thats really ****ing stupid because now Dark Willow is something she 'wanted' to become and not something that just was an emotional response! Oh and it shows Tara was nothing to her in a sense." Other than that it was Ok i suppose i'm buying Volume 3 tomorrow.

I wouldn't say that was a goal, but a consequence. Joss certainly didn't plan for Season 8 to be a big unwieldy mess, but that's what ended up as. The last issue does a decent job of fixing things, but there's no way I'm coming back for a Season 9.

BIG news about Season Nine and the new Angel ongoing, now titled Angel and Faith (not sure I like that title), coming from Wondercon...

Buffy Season 9 to be co-written by Whedon and Andrew Chambliss
Christos Gage to write "Angel and Faith", with Rebecca Isaacs as artist
Christos Gage on Angel and Faith

Gage is pretty good news, right? I've only heard good things about his GI Joe: Cobra series...

Seems like a huge step up from someone like Lynch.

Been waiting a long time to see Faith finally join Angel's team. Really looking forward to both books.

Except Faith's not really joining Team Angel. From the looks of it, it'll just be her and him in London.

In a Q&A they said the Angel and Faith book will focus on the two of them, and that the supporting Angel characters will still be around.

Does anyone have any links to this Rebecca Isaacs' artwork? I want to get an idea of what her Angel work will look like.
