The 3d packaging looks sweet but the regular blu ray + dvd not so much.

I just picked up Apocalypse Now.

Well MGM just went through a whole bankrupty thing which went as far as even delaying the next Bond movie from going into production. But lately they seem to be releasing catalog titles just fine. Maybe they are just waiting until the next Bond film is coming out and release the remaining Bond films to cash in on that.

Nice! Just wish there were more extras. Here's hoping for a great transfer. Isn't Warner Brothers the company that don't always give their films the best transfers?

Well the movies are basically getting released only because of the new videogame coming out and I mean...come on...if you were in charge would you be wanting to put a lot of money into restoring the Mortal Kombat movies? I expect these to fall into the category an upgrade over the DVD but don't expect to have your socks knocked off.

And Warner Brothers is just like every other studio. Some great transfers, some mediocre transfers...it might seem like that is the case with WB but they are the studio that is releasing the most catalog titles so maybe it is just magnified more because they have so many titles released. It all depends on the movie as well...some movies can only look so good.

The Mortal Kombat movies have been available on Blu-ray in Canada for quite some time now and from what I heard the transfers on those looked pretty decent.

Anyone happen to know if Disney usually releases coupons for their Studio Ghibli releases like they do most of their own?

Hah, and that is exactly the title that made me ask the question. I don't have a DVD copy of any of those, though, but shouldn't be difficult at all to get a UPC online.

More MGM Catalog Titles Heading to Blu-ray
According to a report from Bill Hunt of TheDigitalBits.com, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment in conjunction with MGM Home Entertainment will release All Dogs Go to Heaven, All Dogs Go to Heaven 2, Picture This, The Secret of NIMH, Material Girls, Teen Wolf and Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde for Blu-ray on March 29th. Additionally, they will release the Norman Jewison musical Fiddler on the Roof for Blu-ray a week later on April 5th.

Paramount Explains Why No 3D Blu-ray for Jackass 3
As previously reported, Jackass 3 will come out on March 8 without a 3D Blu-ray version, only an antiquated anaglyph 3D version (with two-colored glasses), and in standard definition, on the accompanying DVD. The Digital Bits contacted Paramount Home Entertainment to ask why. The official response received was the decision was made "in an effort to bring the 3D home viewing experience of Jackass 3 to as wide an audience as possible."

The studio added: "This ensures that all consumers with a DVD player will have the opportunity to experience the film in classic 3D at home."

To date, Paramount has only released one 3D Blu-ray title: the Best Buy exclusive 3D BD of The Last Airbender.

Basket Case Blu-ray Planned for October
Via his Facebook page, director Frank Henenlotter has revealed that he hopes that his directorial debut, the cult horror movie Basket Case, will have a Blu-ray release by October, released by Image Entertainment. The film will be remastered from the original 16mm negative, which has never been used for any previous releases. Other details are still pending.

Miramax Blu-ray to Be Distributed by Lionsgate in the US
Lionsgate, Studiocanal and Miramax announced today that they have entered into a worldwide home entertainment distribution deal. Under the long-term deal, Lionsgate and Studiocanal will distribute more than 550 titles from the Miramax film library on Blu-ray. The studio will soon release the Scream trilogy, and Pulp Fiction will finally get its Blu-ray release in June.

Lionsgate will partner with international distributor Studiocanal to distribute Miramax titles in the UK and Europe.

The first home entertainment release under the deal will be The Switch in the US, the romantic comedy about friendship, fertility and family, starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman, which will be released on Blu-ray on March 15.

While commenting on the distribution agreement just announced between Miramax, Lionsgate and Studiocanal, Miramax CEO Mike Lang revealed that upcoming titles include all three films in the Scream franchise, tying in with the theatrical release of Scream 4 (due out April 15). Pulp Fiction, in turn, will come out in June.

Lang noted that, while he is aware that "the packaged DVD media market is maturing and consumers are beginning to look for digital alternatives," he also believes that "we're seeing renewed interest in Blu-ray — and this will be especially true for Miramax given the fact that many of our titles have never been released on the format."

The announcement was made by Steve Beeks, President and Co-Chief Operating Officer of Lionsgate, Olivier Courson, Chief Executive Officer of Studiocanal and Mike Lang, Chief Executive Officer of Miramax.

"The Miramax library will be one of the most treasured jewels in our home entertainment crown," said Beeks. "With our longstanding commitment and expertise in aggressively managing library titles, we are thrilled to bring together under one roof such Miramax film icons as Shakespeare in Love, The English Patient, Pulp Fiction and Good Will Hunting with our existing classics such as Dirty Dancing and Monster's Ball to create what is unquestionably one of the most powerful and prestigious filmed entertainment libraries in the world. We are looking forward to working with Mike and his incredible team on this exciting venture."

"We are pleased to expand our existing partnership with Lionsgate to encompass this exciting new venture with Miramax," said Courson. "The Miramax library features some of the best of American independent cinema, representing a wonderful mix of creative excellence, award winning films and commercial successes. The Miramax slate is a perfect fit for Studiocanal's core values and vision and we believe it will resonate with European audiences."

"With their expertise and success in the home entertainment marketplace, we consider both Lionsgate and Studiocanal to be the perfect partners to distribute these films," says Lang. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with them as we work to expand the availability of our library across all platforms to reach new audiences around the world."

I have a feeling The Crow's not much of a priority for Miramax/Lionsgate. It'll come, sure, but later on down the road. I'm gonna be pissed if they wait until 2014 for the 20th anniversary. My hope is that it'll be out by say, the end of 2012. (Though if it was up to me, it'd be among the first batch)

I would love to see the Crow on BD too. Sucks they're waiting this long, they've had to have released far less popular films on BD while they're still sitting on The Crow.

Well considering there is a remake of The Crow in the works we will actually probably see it on store shelves in the next year or two.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced Taxi Driver for Blu-ray release on April 5, in a 35th Anniversary edition. * God's Lonely Man
* Producing Taxi Driver
* Influence and Appreciation: A Martin Scorsese Tribute
