So I just bought Star Trek The Original Series Season 1 on Blu-ray, and the new added CGI stuff are cool! Does anyone know if the Star Trek movies on Blu-ray have new CGI too???

Inception Makers Not Involved in 3D
Last week, reports indicated that Christopher Nolan was working on a stereoscopic conversion of Inception to release it on 3D Blu-ray (see Blu-ray.com, February 25). However, Wally Pfister ASC, the film's Oscar-winning director of photography, now has clarified that, while a 3D release is "definitely" going to happen, he's not taking part in that endeavor, and neither is Nolan. "In terms of what's happening with Inception, you know, Chris and I are like-minded in that way," he said. Backstage at the Academy Awards, Pfister said he wasn't a fan of 3D, and that "in terms of the immersion for the audience, we like to do things like film things in IMAX and put it on a much larger canvas and higher resolution rather than three-dimensional." Late last year, Christopher Nolan revealed that his upcoming movie, The Dark Knight Rises, which begins filming in April, will be shot and exhibited in 2D.

Wow, that was fast. I'm hoping that these transfers weren't rushed so they could get them out in time for Scream 4 (they probably did, though

I tend to buy the 3D versions of films as well. So far I have Alice in Wonderland 3D, Despicable Me 3D, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter, and I plan on getting Tron: Legacy 3D.
I haven't made my mind up on Lion King yet. |

If you play the 3D Blu-ray on a regular Blu-ray player, it just appears as 2D, or what?

Typically it won't play unless it's a combo disk. You need a 3D blu-ray player and a 3D HDTV in order to read 3D blu-ray disks.

There very few 3D Blu-ray's that play as 3D only but they do exist. For the most part every 3D Blu-ray comes along with a 2D version. The 3D Blu-ray that own Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs gives you the selectable option on the main menu of 3D or 2D. If you try and select the 3D option without a 3D setup it will tell you that you do not have the right equipment to play it.

I think they messed up the wording there. Lol. If it is 9 disc's it should break down like the Theatrical Edition. 3 BR's for the movies, 3 disc's for the special features, and 3 disc's for the digital copies.

Blu-ray Presence in Redbox Kiosks to Increase Speaking at a technology conference, Coinstar CFO Scott Di Valerio said that Redbox is going to increase the number of Blu-ray Disc titles in its kiosks, but focusing in the "more rentable genres" such as action movies. Blu-ray penetration in Redbox kiosks will now surpass 10%. Redbox plans to add 5,000 to 6,000 new kiosks in 2011. Di Valerio admitted that Redbox management "had expected Blu-ray to do better in the fourth quarter." The company has taken steps to better understand the format, he said. However, he clarified: "We are very bullish on the Blu-ray opportunity and think it is certainly accretive".

Sony Blu-ray Factory in Japan Impacted by Earthquake
According to numerous reports coming from Japan, Sony factories that make among other things Blu-ray discs, have been shut down due to the 8.9 earthquake that occured outside the coast of Japan around 05:46 UTC today. The reports at this stage may not be accurate and it is not known if there are going to be any lasting impacts. As more information becomes available over the next few days and as the impact becomes more clear we will update the news. Sony Corporation informed that all its operations in Japan have been stopped. The company has six factories in northern Japan, one of them manufacturing Blu-ray discs. Other companies still assessing damage include Panasonic, Sharp, Canon and Epson. Even when factories are not damaged, production is likely to be temporarily disrupted. However, the economic repercussions are dwarfed by the heavy loss of life, as hundreds of people are feared dead and thousands injured by the quake and subsequent tsunami. Several aid and relief initiatives are already in place; if you are interested, click here. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/0..._n_834484.html Alien Movies Getting Separate Blu-ray releases Early retailer information indicates that, on May 10, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will separately release the four Alien movies – Alien, Aliens, Alien³ and Alien: Resurrection – previously only available as part of the Alien Anthology, released in October 26. These are reportedly single-disc releases and won't include the bonus discs on the Anthology (Making the Anthology and The Anthology Archives).
