Also why stop at 'mutant' why not make them older with knowledge of a more recognised martial art form? Maybe choose a less threatening and more appealing to the female demographic?

It's just something I imagine we'll be getting. I could be wrong of course. I'm just still confused about all this since I can't think of any reason how them being aliens expands things to give a more complex back story and richer world. Just seems to make things more complicated/calculated than needed given how simple and straight forward their origins are in whatever past format of TMNT you look at. And the whole them being real to the kids of today confuses me as well. Time will tell what this all means and if this will be a case of good or bad synergy amongst the franchise.

1) Disney owns Marvel. Disney does not own the Daredevil, Spider-man, X-Men, or Ghost Rider movie rights. Daredevil and X-Men's movie rights are Fox's property, and Spider-man and Ghost Rider's rights belong to Sony. I got GR and DD mixed up with Sony/Fox.

2) No, you can't. The Turtles are technically parody. Parody is covered under freedom of speech. The origin would not be able to be sued over. And even if another company tried, the judge would laugh them out of court. The characters have been around for almost 3 decades.

bay has said the turtles are aliens, and other info states they are being from dimension x, so there is nothing that mutates then why would there be a plot device to just mutant the others. you really think they are not just going to say krang got the other mutants from other parts of the alt dimension.

A race of mutants? I'd say the fact the original creators have a hand in this indicates they're still mutants. My honest opinion is that Bay said it the way he did to stir things up. Easy publicity.
