Default The Official Mass Effect thread

This thread will be the official place for discussing news, posting any related media, and just general chat about the amazing upcoming game Mass Effect.

We've seen the demo footage, but now there is new footage of the game that includes vehicle combat.

http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2211

You can find both the X06 demo footage and the new MTV Exclusive footage in that link.

Mass Effect is an RPG sci-fi epic where you play Commander Shepard, the commander of a ship called the Normandy. An ancient machine race wiped out all civilizations 50, 000 years ago. Now, they're coming back. Interact with various alien species, command a ship, and travel across a galaxy to find a way to stop the coming destruction.

You can create Commander Shepard crom the ground up, making the character male or female, whichever you please. Or you can select a pre-made character. Play your part in RPG dialogue that looks alot like cut scenes. You can even interrupt other characters and grab them if the option is available. You can choose to bribe characters or threaten them, as seen in previous media for the game.

The area that you can travel seems to be huge. You can travel across the galaxy, visiting planets and even asteroids. Not everything is connected to the main story, there will be sub plots to explore.

Take your crew down to a planet in your buggy, driving it across the surface. You can even use it to shoot the enemy. Take part in strategic combat, switching between members of your crew or telling your crew where to go and what to do.

Here is the Mass Effect FAQ, with lots of interesting info.

http://mefaq.sendu.me.uk/

One thing I am looking forward to, is that they promise to release two sequels to the game. And you can use your created character from the first game for these sequels! Plus, like Oblivion, they will be releasing content in between the games. You know, probably stuff like extra missions and more planets.

Anyways, how long is this game supposed to be?

Stick to the main mission and you can be done in 15-18 hours, do the sidequests and I've seen playthroughs range from 25-35 hours depending on how fast you are.

I actually thought Nihilus was going to be the Turian party member, so much for that - heh.

Don't worry about the galaxy wide collection quests, they don't do anything important for ME2 and they can take a while to do.

Depending on whether or not you're trying to rush it these are the sidequests that I would most recommend doing in terms of value for the sequel:

The Fan (Citadel)

Dr. Michel/Missing Marines/Cerberus/Hades' Dogs (Talk to Dr. Michel on the Citadel after having a done a main quest planet or two)

The Fourth Estate (Visit the Citadel later on in the game and she should show up)

Geth Incursion/Tali and the Geth (Armstrong Cluster, I recommend doing this near the end)

Asari Diplomacy (You'll get this eventually)

I finally beat Mass effect 2! Had it since october! Sorry I have add hehe...but anyways what an epic mesmerizing game! I would put this game over Red dead as the best game of 2010 now!!! Some of the highlight of the game was when I bang Tali but I was hoping for Samara! Oh well lol. And the final battle was so epic! Was never a big fan of rpg but this is the first game of the genre I actually love! Can't wait for mass effect 3! And I need to get the original mass effect!

I just beat ME1 yesterday. What a great game! I cant beleive Ive had it this long and never touched it. It kinda reminds me of Oblivion and Fallout in terms of sidequests and dialogue go, but much much better. I hated the keyboard/mouse setup at first but grew to really like and get used to it by the end.

It's totally a better control setup for ME's gameplay style. ME 2 tends to feel a bit better with the controller to me, though.

Playing a bit of ME2, Id have to agree. There were so many abilities in the first game per class that I found myself relying on the numebr keysto use them all, but with only about 3 or 4 in ME2, those can simply be mapped to the keys of a gamepad. crapping the loot system also takes away the need for a mouse/keyboard and directing squad members to do things seems simple enough with the gamepad now.

That is a good track, but it's unlikely we'll get that in the next game. Bioware hired a new composer for ME3.

Also, I don't know if you know it or not, but the threads for ME2 and ME3 are in the Multiplatform section if you'd like to join us.

Been playing ME1 again, its been a while. But I'm still loving it! I got ME2 a few weeks ago but haven't played it yet due to me wanting to make the choices I want in ME1 first. Even if they don't have a large effect. I always feel I need to have Garrus in my party. Always.

Thane is probably one of the greatest characters BioWare has ever created.

And Miranda.

Mmmhm.

Did anyone sleep with multiple charaters in ME2? For some reason I had Jack :/ for the hell of it and Miranda. Also had Ashley Williams in ME1. Should be interesting to see how it works out

So, I've finally continued playing ME1. And damn it to hell, every time I want to continue with the main quest, there's another sidequest popping up. Which I am compelled to start.

Btw, did Liara creep anyone else out? That chick has the crazy eyes.

The fact that she's the only asari in the universe with eyebrows creeped me out...

I always did the side quests first as well, but more because I was afraid that progressing the story too far would make me unable to complete them.

I wasn't able to convince him to calm down on my first playthrough.

So then Ashley killed him.

Say, did Bioware do some kind of Story fudge up? During my final confrontation with Saren, he starts talking about how his doubts have been erased, after he got implants from Sovereign. Organics and machines in perfect harmony yadda, yadda, some stuff like that. But... didn't Saren walk around like some Cyborg the entire game already? o_O

I think he's referring to the doubts he had prior to the start of the game. Saren's been involved with Reaper stuff since way back toward the end of the First Contact War, we eventually find out.

Oh, so his half robot look is normal? Alright, I was wondering why everyone was acting normal around him, even though his look literally screamed crazy villain.
