As awesome as that Simonson cover is, I'm a little disappointed he didn't draw the current costume. I would've liked to see what his version looks like.

I asked him a couple times on his Facebook page if he was ever going to draw the modern Costume and didn't get a straight answer lol

Walt still can't Draw any Marvel Characters BUT this is what he said on FaceBook about the new Thor cover AND Coipel after a fan left a comment as to seeing an old Thor.

Quote:
Fabricio Marvel The cover is awesome (as each cover drawn by you) but I really would love to see you drawing Thor on his new costume.

The Official Walter Simonson Page Fabricio - That would require a new drawing, I fear, and I'm a DC contract freelancer. Hence the use of an old image for the new cover. I think I've been a DC contract freelancer since before Thor's (now not quite so) new costume. <g> And besides, Olivier does such a great job drawing it. <vbg>

Oh wow, I didn't know it was a legal thing. Kind of sad that his exclusive contract with DC prevents him from drawing any new Marvel stuff, even just covers.

From the signature, it looks like it was drawn in '83.

I personally thought that contract was up a few years ago.

Lol such a cheesy tagline "before the hammer came the sword!". I'd love to see the prequel: "before the sword came breast feeding!" Still fantastic to see this finally coming out! <3 Day 1 purchase easily. =)

Man, I love the idea of Alter-Ego. I can't wait for the next issue of Astonishing, even if Thor does look like a prepubescent girl.

It's just a big golden bird. I don't think I've ever seen one in the comic version of Asgard. Capcom just took some artistic license.

It's the same giant bird from the end of Guitar Hero: World Tour.

Simonson still rocks hard! His art looks amazing. Some of the "giants" of the 80's look wrong in the digital comic age - But Simonson art is boss no matter what.

Somebody got hit in the head with Mjolnir.

Astonishing Thor #3: Asgard is in ruins, and now-the infamous Grey Gargoyle strikes! In search of the fabled Apples of Idunn which gives immortality to the gods themselves, the rock-like horror will stop at nothing to achieve the endless life he has so long sought. He invades the fabled, though fallen city, turning all before him to unmoving stone in his awful quest. And it seems as if not even the Thunder God himself can give the Grey Gargoyle pause. Don't miss this stand alone special written by the cosmic team supreme of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, ably illustrated by Mark Brooks. It's the perfect introduction to the wondrous world of the Mighty Thor.

Thats funny, when I read it, it was about Alter Ego, Thor and the Stranger.

Yeah, they misprinted the solicitations. That solicitation is for the Point One issue of Thor.

Quote:

Matt Fraction was asked what "Fear Itself" is actually about. "The Red Skull discovers that Odin isn't the All Father. She frees him and is transformed into a deity for it," said the writer. The rest of the panel took comedic issue at this uncharacteristic news item in the Q and A session and chuckled at Fraction's choice.
Haha so the villain is the true All Father!

"In the first arc of 'Mighty Thor' that starts in April -- which is me, Olivier Coipel, Mark Morales and Laura Martin -- Galactus comes to Asgard," said Fraction. "So…Silver Surfer, Galactus, Thor and Asgardians!"

Yay for Galactus interacting with Thor again, boo for Fraction being at the helm.
