Police change story in fatal shooting; wife wants answers

This one will get really ugly. Police shoots a Marine 71 times. In a shoot out. Problem is the Marine never fired a single shot. His rifle was on safety the entire time and had only one round.

I'm considering a merge of all of Dox's random threads into his own 'Thoughts of Dox' type thread. Seriously.

Here is a throught:

So I read Smallville fans got owned very hard last night.

They wait 10 years, and... Welling still didn't wear a Superman suit. No you get Superman Return reused CG, and head shots with a lousy CG cape in the back. Then they completely Deus Ex Machina Lex Luthor's ENTIRE character arc.

Cataclysmic fail

Shirt ripping is not the same as the full suit.

There is an entire thread at Kryptonsite on this:

For Franklin's sake:

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
I liked the finale. I wasn't expecting all that much action to begin with--I thought we'd see him in the suit only at the very, very end and just for a split second. So, obvious CG or not, I was pleased with it. I care more about the moral tale of Superman--the idea that you use your abilities to help others and that power has a proper role as service rather than domination--than the action, anyway. And this past season through the finale had that in spades.

On another note, I'm glad it's over. Smallville was the last remaining show I watched on a regular basis. Now? I don't have any reason to be home to watch a TV show. I don't have any way to record shows--a former couch potato shouldn't give himself any incentive or ability to watch more television. So basically, I now only watch TV if there's nothing better to do.

IMF CHIEF ARRESTED IN NEW YORK FOR ALLEGEDLY FORCING HOTEL MAID TO GIVE HIM ORAL SEX

Forensics seems to be backup the story as well.

Damn you, Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

It would seem that Western Europe's return to social democracy will have to begin elsewhere.

Never watched a full episode of Smallville, but I am hooked on the CSI shows, and now "Breakout Kings" on AE.... I was also hooked on "Damages" on FX...but it is no longer on....*frown*

Bill Clinton is officially senile. He wants an government internet agency to stop misinformation and rumors. He wants the [useless] UN or US government to fund it.

Apparent Immunity Gene ‘Cures’ Bay Area Man Of AIDS
Quote:
A 45-year-old man now living in the Bay Area may be the first person ever cured of the deadly disease AIDS, the result of the discovery of an apparent HIV immunity gene.

Timothy Ray Brown tested positive for HIV back in 1995, but has now entered scientific journals as the first man in world history to have that HIV virus completely eliminated from his body in what doctors call a “functional cure.”

Brown was living in Berlin, Germany back in 2007, dealing with HIV and leukemia, when scientists there gave him a bone marrow stem cell transplant that had astounding results.

“I quit taking my HIV medication the day that I got the transplant and haven’t had to take any since,” said Brown, who has been dubbed “The Berlin Patient” by the medical community.
Quote:
Scientists said Brown received stem cells from a donor who was immune to HIV. In fact, about one percent of Caucasians are immune to HIV. Some researchers think the immunity gene goes back to the Great Plague: people who survived the plague passed their immunity down and their heirs have it today.

I suspect Magic Johnson has this gene and just never got around to telling anyone.

But seriously, good news. Even before this discovery, the amazing progress of antiretroviral drugs over the last 20 years has almost ensured that if you stick to a strict cocktail of daily meds (if you have enough money of course) you can have HIV in your system indefinitely without it ever developing into full-blown AIDS. 25 years ago it was pretty much a 1 or 2 year death sentence.

Teen Discovers Promising Cystic Fibrosis Treatment
Quote:
A 16-year-old from the Toronto area used a supercomputer system to find a new drug combination that shows potential in treating the genetic disorder cystic fibrosis, and won top honors for his work.

At his mentor's lab, (Marshall) Zhang used the Canadian SCINET supercomputing network to investigate how two promising new compounds acted against the defective protein responsible for the condition. Using computer simulations, he figured out how each of these drugs acted against the protein and discovered they acted on the protein in different spots, raising the possibility they could be used simultaneously without interfering with each other.
Quote:
After taking Advanced Placement Biology last year, in Grade 10, Zhang decided he wanted to do what real scientists do and began contacting professors to see if he could work in their labs.

"Most of them said 'no' because I didn't have the experience I needed," he said. "I emailed the entire list of faculty in biochemistry at the University of Toronto." The last one, Dr. Bear, said yes.

Strauss-Kahn appears to be on suicide watch at Rikers.

Meanwhile the maid's name and pic has allegedly been leaked. Story via here (at least for an english source, its all over the French blogs). Ophelia Famotidina.

It probably going to be in the MSM inevitably.
