well yes i would like to have murray/peter there but with bill's issues over the years. The best options would be write him out as retired and moved on to have the good life in sunny southern cali, or what not. OR that he died. But my feeling is bill just doesnt think things will ever get off the ground. So i rather leave venkman alive, so then like i said above if the film happens and filming gets under way. Maybe then that would convince murray to come down to filming/do a cameo. Wouldnt be the first time an actor says he wont return and then changes mind and return to a project.

That doesn't make him "too good" to do Ghostbusters...
And bringing in a new group of Ghostbusters doesn't make it the Extreme Ghostbusters. Hell, let's say that it's the original Ghostbusters' kids taking over for their folks when a new formidable foe comes to town. I don't want anything from Extreme Ghostbusters brought over

I just can't ever see this happenning...
I heard Bill Murray is rumoured to have said something along the lines of "Who wants to see a bunch of old, fat guys running around trying to catch ghosts?" If that is true, he kind of has a point, doesn't he?

He mistook the film for a Coen Brothers movie.

I don't think it would be bad with no venkman. Like I said if the film got off the ground maybe he would change mind for a cameo. That is what I like.
Bbut if no venkman I would be fine as long as they write out a logical reason. Be it death, retirement, etc.... reasons. |

I don't think Bill should have to do the film if he doesn't want to, but this is incredibly disappointing.
I'm kind of amused by how many people have decided "Screw him, move on without him." I'm right there. He may have atoned for GARFIELD, but he still has to redeem himself for GARFIELD 2. Bill Murray was part of what made GHOSTBUSTERS good, but he was not what made GHOSTBUSTERS, well, GHOSTBUSTERS. Peter Venkman is a great character. But as a character, he was the audience's identity character and comic relief, not the driving force behind the concept. That is Ray and Egon. In a film where the original guys are likely to be treated more like supporting characters, it's silly to abandon the project just because Murray doesn't want to do it. It makes perfect sense that Venkman, far past his prime, would have moved on with Dana.

I really want to see a third Ghostbusters. The story wasn't finished. Ghostbusters as a concept is meant for a trilogy, but somehow they did not go through with it (48 Hours met the same fate).
And in these days of special effects, imagine how great it could be, the potential it has. But only with the old gang back, and as main heroes. No mentorship for a younger ghost hunting crew. It would just be bad comedy actors. Last edited by Airwings; 02-29-2012 at 12:48 PM. |

I'd be satisfied with the 'old guys handing the reins to a new crew' story but only if all the old gang returns - including Venkman, even if it's just an extended cameo. I mean everyone has their favorite and Pete was always mine, it just wouldn't feel right to me without him.
It'd be like making a ninja turtle movie without [insert favorite turtle here].

As much as I like Venkman, I'd be fine with his absence. Let Oscar explain his disappearance.

Wan't Murray supposed to do a cameo as Venkman's ghost or something?
It will be sad without him. Maybe he can be talked into it. Doing a cameo doesn't take too much time. He DID agree to Zombieland, so why not this? Talking cameos, it could be a fun thing to do if the director included some "blink and you miss him" type of cameos from other popular comedy actors of the 80s, those who are still alive: Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, Michael J Fox, John Cleese etc. Maybe even let Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis return to their comedy roots? I don't give much for the younger generation of stars in this genre. Well, if Jack Black acts with a straight face and doesn't turn the film into one of his freak shows, it will be okay. But Jonah Hill, Jesse Eisenberg, Will Ferrell, Seth Rogen, Steve Carrell and the rest aren't as god as the older ones. Don't know why, though, they just seem too silly... and... bad. Maybe they lack class? Last edited by Airwings; 02-29-2012 at 03:03 PM. |

It doesn't have to be about a bunch of old guys running around catching ghosts...they could just be trainers for the new teams.

if they make a movie without Murray they woudl 100% have him in a cameo. and they would pay him a lot money. and Murray would for 10 years make fun of them how they payed him a lot money for 3 minutes .

I don't think Bill even has to be in it. It makes sense based on the story of the 2nd film...it was obvious the character was not interested in Ghostbusting. He wanted to move on...they can just go with that for the story. He moved on, got married, etc...

Well I don't think the old guys busting full time would work best now. The whole passing torch deal is the best way to go. So we have connection to past and link to the future. And who knows who would be hired as young busters. There is plently decent 20/30 something comedy actors out there.

I just think there's too much heartache, studio problems, and hurdles to do another Ghostbusters. But I would rather have 'passing the torch' angle than a remake, however.
