Yeah, regenerative breaking and the gas engine keep the batteries charged. And the gas engine kicks in for power boosts as well.
Depends on the maker of the hybrid....but most are turning to what Ford developed a few years ago....

When the car is stopped, or moving under 25 -- 30 mph, it is "all electric" once it goes above that, it goes to gas. When you are on the highway, and you pop the accelarator to pass a car, it will go 50/50, half gas, half electric. While it is running with gas, it automatically charges itself....so there is no need to recharge it, it does that itself.

So, to make a long story short, if you are not an urban driver, like myself.....having a hybrid really won't save you much money. Especially since it looks like Obama is going to ditch the tax incentive to buy a hybrid.....

I saw some oil rigs out in the ocean when I went to Galveston Bay a couple of years ago.

Crappy beach, low gas prices...lol

I go to Cancun for beaches, so I don't care....I'll take the low gas prices.

It was definitely the dirtiest beach I've been to.

It is nasty, and not because of trash, but because of oil....great shops, great restaurants, great theatre, so I stick to those things, and stay off the beaches.

Now, you can go on the other side of the bay to Moody Gardens, and their beach is clean....but I'd rather go to Cancun.

Unfortunately, Ike took my favorite place for Calamari....it was a restaurant that was on one of the piers and was destroyed.....Hopefully it will be rebuilt before I go in August.

$2.25 a gallon here. It's nice to know that the majority of my paycheck isn't going to gas like it was last year.
