Default NBC's Grimm

BC has picked up another pilot mixing fantasy with a crime drama: The network has greenlit Grimm, described as a “dark but fantastical cop drama about a world in which characters inspired by Grimm’s Fairy Tales exist.” (Gotta love mining expired copyrights in the public domain!).

The project is from Jim Kouf (Angel) and David Greenwalt (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), with executive producers Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner.

The order comes on top of Battlestar guru Ron Moore’s 17th Precinct, also at NBC, about cops working a town where people have magical powers.

‘GRIMM’ -- “Grimm” is a new drama series inspired by the classic Grimm's Fairy Tales. Remember the fairy tales your parents used to tell you before bedtime? Those weren’t stories -- they were warnings. Nick Burkhardt (David Guintoli “Turn The Beat Around”) thought he prepared himself for the realities of working as a homicide detective until he started seeing things he couldn’t quite explain. When his ailing Aunt Marie (guest star Kate Burton, “Grey’s Anatomy”) arrives, Nick's life turns upside down when she reveals they are descendants of an elite group of hunters, also known as “Grimms,” who fight to keep the balance of humanity safe from the supernatural creatures of the world. As Nick digs deeper into her past, he realizes that he will have to shoulder the responsibility of his ancestors -- and contend with a larger-than-life mythology of the Brothers Grimm that is now all too real. Russell Hornsby (“Lincoln Heights”), Bitsie Tulloch (“Quarterlife”), Silas Weir Mitchell (“Prison Break”), Reggie Lee (“Persons Unknown”) and Sasha Roiz (“Caprica”) also star. “Grimm” is a production of Universal Media Studios and Hazy Mills Productions. Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner (“Hot in Cleveland”) serve as executive producers, Jim Kouf (“National Treasure,” “Angel”) and David Greenwalt (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel”) are the creators/executive producers and Marc Buckland (“My Name Is Earl”) is the director.

Love Fables. Like, a lot. So I'm going to be hyper-critical of this show.

I'm glad Fables didn't get picked up as a pilot or series because it would've sucked on network TV. Fables would only work as cable TV series honestly. HBO or Starz pretty much.

Wasn't there already a show like Grimm? Wasn't it like Section 23 or something?

This sounds semi-interesting. I'll probably check out the pilot. But, personally, I'm more interested in Once Upon a Time.

Same here, and honestly, this sounds like crap to me; To be fair, so did the Fables comics at first, so who knows how I'll feel about this one.

I dont get the compairisons shows like this and Once Upon a Time get to Fables. Yeah, sure they meld fairy tale and reality, but it's not like Fables was the first of it's kind. One example...

But it was Fables that got me into this sub-genre, so its Fables I'm using to measure this show by. Not saying Grimm can't and won't do its own thing its own way. It could be a great alternative. But considering how NBC series are always hit-or-miss, I'm leaning towards the possibility that the show won't do it for me. Unfair decision to make hastily, I'm sure.

You might be thinking of Special Unit 2.

That was a fun little series. Grimm sounds like it might be more on the dramatic side of things though.

So a modernized, cop version of that horrible Heath Ledger movie "The Brothers Grimm"? If it lasts more than five episodes I will be amazed.

I don't think this sounds like the comic book "Fables" as all. I think ABC's Once Upon A Time sounds closer to Fables than this.

So this show is probably why they passed on Ron Moore's 17th Precinct. Didn't really have room on their schedule for two supernatural cop shows, I'd imagine, and this one is whole lot more accessible by default (because let's face it, "accessible" never really seems at the top of Moore's priority list). I'll give it a shot because I like these showrunners as well, but damn...I was looking forward to the cast of the other one SOOOO much more.

When I saw the thread title, I thought it said Fable-esque, as in the Fable video game series.

I got halfway excited for a second.

Still sounds like an interesting concept tho. I'll probably set the DVR to check it out.
