Canada putting Cap on Internet Usage, charging overage fees.
One certain result though, is that Bell will make much more profit on its Internet service, and discourage Canadians from watching TV and movies on the internet instead of CTV, which Bell now owns. Canadian Radio-Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approved UBB for the incumbent carrier Bell Canada in September. Competitive ISPs, which connect to Canada's top telco for last-mile copper connections to customers, will also be metered by Bell. Source: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/n...et-billing.ars |

I think now I understand why people want net neutrality laws.

What about people that don't use bell? And isn't the internet already kind of metered since we have limited bandwidth?

Our government has called for a review into the CRTC’s decision. I don't see this metered internet thing lasting long.

Bandwidth and internet usage is too different things. You can only download a streaming movie at a certain level of bandwidth. If I'm understanding this correctly: Basically your internet would work like your cell phone with 'minutes.' You can only talk a certain amount, and anything over will be charged at your expense.

I download/stream HD movies that are at least 4GB. I wonder how that law would go here?

This is how ridiculous our plans' pricing and bandwidth limits are:

Maybe they should try and make that better instead of blaming the Internet.

Why is the bandwidth limit so LOW? I mean with 2 megabits a second, it's almost impossible for you to download large files.

I'm with Teksavvy and have unlimited downloading. I pay about $45/month. If I downloaded the same amount on Rogers or Bell I'd be paying at least twice that. I've already signed the petition as well as telling my Conservative Party MP that if this goes through I'm voting for the Liberals next election just out of spite. They're hitting on the one issue that most of us young adult voters will actually vote in response to next time. I haven't voted in the last two elections, but I'd vote over this just out of anger. I hope this reversal actually lasts. I never underestimate the greediness and influence of big corporations. This is gonna get raised again yet.

![]() Honestly though, do you think this cap is going to stop me? I'll get around it, and spit in the face of Rogers, Bell and the CRTC as I do it.

Except for the fact that Bell is glitchy, always disconnects, has terrible customer service and DOES cap your speed. It's cheap for a reason... their ****** service has given them bad rep.
