Default Official Young Avengers Discussion Thread

Well,im rather excited.Im going to get a Young Avengers TPB from my local dealer,i should get it in about 3-5 days. From what i hear, this is a real good comic.I also decided to give a new theme a chance, and see what it could be like.

Ill be sure to put up my thoughts here, since i did not see a thread that was ment to talk about the Young Avengers,i might as well make one.I hear that the YA will be cancled, and relaunched.Details?

Discuss the Young Avengers series, questions may also be put here.

Cup O' Joe TALK TO THE HAT: All Fan Friday

Next up, we've got a run of Avenger questions from marvell2100, who starts out saying "With the return of Iron Lad in 'Avengers: The Children's Crusade,' will we see the return of the old Vision? He's been gone for a really long time. I've always thought of him as a cornerstone of the Avengers. Also, he needs to be with Wanda again."

Tom Brevoort: The only thing I can tell you at the moment, Marvell2100, obviously, is to keep reading "Avengers: The Children's Crusade," because if anything like that were to be happening, that's likely the place where it would occur. But no promises!

Obviously, we are going to get some vision of the Young Avengers of the future in a glimpse of something that can and will never happen. Tommy will never take over for Quicksilver; if he didn't during the 3-5 years that Pietro was powerless and/or insane, he isn't going to in the future. Stature has at least 2-3 other people to contend with if she wants to be the only Ant-person around. Eli will never become Captain America because Rogers will never die. Kate cannot become the "real" Hawkeye because Clint will never die, either. Teddy becoming the next Capt. Marvel is possible, but y'know what? Marvel doesn't have the stones. They're chicken ****'s when it comes to legacies unless Brubaker is involved (Capt. America, Iron Fist). All this story will be is a tease at something these characters can never become, and that's the invisible wall many young heroes face.

At least with DC, a tease like this has more weight because they've been better with legacies. Whether I like it or not, Dick Grayson did get to be Batman for a while. Wally West went from Kid Flash to Flash for over a generation; even Bart Allen got to be the Flash for a tad. Donna Troy sometimes dresses as a near dead ringer for Wonder Woman.

On the other hand, if Jonas kept the white WCA look, then if Victor Shade returned, he could don his usual guise and they'd look distinct. But I doubt that is happening, either. Marvel used CHAOS WAR to revive Swordsman, Rita DeMara and Alpha Flight, for heaven's sake, and not Vision. I doubt it is suddenly happening in the immediate future.

Besides, didn't Bendis just do a "young punks from the future" story in AVENGERS?

Still, Alan Davis art is always a win.

I was just saying the other day in the Chaos War thread they should give Vizh Jr the white look. Am I a f**king mind-reader or what?

Wait, I just noticed something: What's with all the gun-toting black folks? Captain America and all his allies are black in the future--that's fine, given Patriot is obviously meant to have grown up to be Cap there--but why are they all using guns? Isn't that kind of a terrible cliché?

Where exactly is this story supposed to be? I mean, what comic? It's not or at least doesn't seem to be Children's Crusade unless the artist changes and Kang shows up. Did I miss something?

Eli already had the terrible cliche "drug addict/steroid" story, he may as well complete it with a hankering for firearms.

It's gotta be something completely different, since the caption at the link just says "Alan Davis illustrates a Young Avengers adventure" and it looks like there's some alternate reality versions of characters in there.

Unfortunately, my time on the X-Men as a lad has often taught me that "alternate reality story" is either filler or "we're out of ideas, let's spin our wheels a bit".

Y'know, like AGE OF X? "We're totally out of ideas, but rather than hint that Joe Q was wrong and end M-Day, let's **** around a bit, eh?"

Yeah, I mean, I'm willing to see what Age of X is all about but I thought Carey's pitch that evolved into Age of X was better than yet another alternate story. The idea of something happening to pull together all the generations of students into their perspective teams (New Mutants, Generation X, New X-Men) interests me a lot.

I'd LOVE to see a Generation X reunion, well, for those who are left. I think that's only Emma, Monet, Husk, Jubilee, and a depowered but Apocalypse-looking Chamber. There's a Penance out there but it isn't anyone that was on the team and I'm not counting Leech, or Gaia and Artie, both of whom are suposedly depowered according to that list.

I'm pretty sure that Gaia still has her powers, since during the Endangered Species backup story, it was confirmed that all mutants who were from another reality kept their powers, and she falls under that category.

I'd be all for that. That stupid list was a dumb idea anyway. Why cut a person's power with no story to go along with it? You're just stunting the character needlessly! As many have said, M-Day was a horrible idea, horribly executed, and horrible for the titles as a result.

That list they released after House of M that listed all the depowed mutants, hundreds of them. It was never in a comic but all over the internet. They used some of it in the Collective arc of New Avengers but I think that's as far as it went on panel.

Ah, well, yeah, I think those lists, unless they're put in comic form in some way, are usually ignored. I think there were even several mutants on some of those lists that were confirmed powered right after, so I don't think anyone cares about those.

I don't care how many mutants there are, personally. Just demilitarize the X-Men and get better writers. Seriously. It's not hard.

Isn't Penance called Hollow now. Apocalypse Chamber was called decibel and wore a kilt too to honor Banshee despite the fact Banshee was Irish and Kilts are Scottish

They made Jubilee a Vampire as well

Thank god Monet has PAD and Husk has Carey writers that actully like them because Marvel has spent the last decade trying to destroy anything Generation X. The New Mutants didn't get nowhere near this much trash dished out to their characters post the end of that team/title.

but alas thats life. Perhaps someday some writer at Marvel will care and bring those characters back together like the New Mutants did recently.

Ironically Marvel moaned about too many X-teams so by that yardstick The Avengers are due for a mass culling.

Does Vision's white look grant him diff powers or is it literally just a color change?

It was a color change accompanied by a personality change but no new powers. He went a little crazy and tried to take over the world, so the government dismantled him. Then another scientist rebuilt him and reprogrammed him with his brain engrams instead of Wonder Man's and no emotions. But the original personality, along with his emotions, leaked through eventually and ultimately kind of merged with the new personality to form a somewhat different Vision. Then, thanks to an evil alternate universe version switching bodies with him, he went back to his red/yellow/green color scheme during Bob Harras' run.

In other words he was on a roll as one of the most fascinating characters ever until Bendis and his Disassembled.

Haha, true. I liked what Busiek had him doing, trying to understand his new humanity that didn't come quite as naturally as it did before his reprogramming.
