How long have Kate and Noh-Varr been a thing?

As for the title, I'm still unsure. I'm a huge Young Avengers fan, but killing Stature really hurt it for me. Then removing Speed and Patriot from the team and replacing the with Marvel Boy, Kid Loki, and Miss America... I don't know. Yeah, I like Kate Bishop, Wiccan, and Hulkling, but this really doesn't feel much like the Young Avengers. Plus, nothing in interviews or solicits peeks my interests.

I figure I'll give the first issue a skim and likely get it, but I'm not holding my breath for a longterm buy. We'll see though.
Well, Newsarama rates issue #1 a 10 out of 10.

So depending on how much you trust their reviews, that's some pretty good word of mouth so far.

I'm glad to hear it! Gillen seems like he's a perfect fit for this title. He gets to write Loki again, and I usually love Gillen's characterization. The solicits alone make me want to buy this.

As for my favourites: Wiccan hands down, with Kate as my second.

I was always planning on giving the book a few issues, but that review sounds promising. Even if the preview didn't do much for me.

Doesn't Newarama give everything a good rating though? Or is that CBR? Or both? Or is it every stinking site out there that doesn't believe in rating a book less than 4 stars (or a 7.5/10 in this case) because they love sucking up to these folks.

You know how you can find a credible review? Find a site that doesn't use a rating system.

And that's not directly at you Spec, I'm just making a general statement regarding how I feel about some of these sites. It's a little bit of a kick I've got going on lately.

I'll try the first ish since it's a light week for me anyhow, but I'm giving it a real short leash. Books are too expensive these days to keep buying something crappy.

What do you guys think about a YOUNG AVENGERS film?

I just think it could be relevant and represent the audience. Young fans wanting to be superheroes. Also I think it would be great to have Wiccan and Hulking's relationship on screen. A gay superhero on film could do a lot with helping society move forward more.

If anything, it would be part of the movie-verse "phase 3" or whatever they're calling it.

Honestly, IMO....we are reaching the pinnacle of what the movies can do. That's why I'm glad they're trying to launch a SHIELD tv show. Young Avengers or other properties (H4H, Punisher, ect) need to be tried on the small screen.

I think YA could be incorporated into a future Avengers film in some way.

Problem with Young Avengers on the small screen, and I agree with you that it would be awesome there, is that it'll be too costly of a show. Or at least I don't see any easy way of doing it. Phase 3 or 4 would make sense.

Well, take heart squeeks, because it's one of the less expensive books at only 2.99, and I thought it was actually pretty good!

I can't see the movies making it to multiple phases.

We're on 3 Superman reboots, (soon to be) 3 Batman, 2 Spider-Man and 2 X-Men. The gravy train has to stop at SOME point.

It'll keep on going with people coming in and dropping out. The Avengers has never had the same roster for all time. Thus they don't need to rely on the same cast. They can just move on with having another hero come in and take their place.

Basically due to the way things are set up "phases" can last as long as the Bond franchise has.

Not saying Iron Man will be around for Avengers 6, but perhaps Dr. Strange or the Black Panther will take his place. Etc.

If it's superhero mythology stopping - it never will. Look at Greek mythology, we are still making those movies today and that mythology is hundreds of years old. Superheroes are the exact same as Greek mythology in that they tap into the same parts of us. Why superhero movies 'caught on' - well, they really didn't they only appeared rather than caught on because technology just finally caught up. We're still telling the stories of Moses, Hercules, Achilles, etc. just this time they have different names.

I kind of wish Noh-Varr weren't such a big part of the series. He... what's the word I'm looking for... oh yeah, sucks ass. A lot.

But other than that, good issue. Teddy and Billy are a good couple and good central stars for the series, and Loki is always appreciated, especially under Gillen's pen. I guess I'll just try to ignore Noh-Varr as much as possible. Shame Speed's not around too, but maybe later. I definitely liked Miss America in Vengeance, so I'm looking forward to how she fits into everything. Promising start, for sure. Jame McKelvie needs to stop giving everyone earrings, though.

Speed's due to show up in issue 6 I believe. I hated that he wasn't in the cast either but Gillen let it spill that Speed's showing up later and that he's excited about it.

Noh-Varr is a wierd fit but I dont mind because he has history with the team. I just don't like the random hook up.

I'd want to see the Young Avengers as a cartoon series or movie. It would be much easier to establish the nuanced connection these characters have to the Avengers mythos through animation, though it's kinda hard to stay true to the characters without a lot of backstory. The audience would need to be informed of the Kree/Skrull stuff, Wanda, Kang, Pym Particles. It's doable, but I think it would work best as a cartoon. Though I'm not sure if they'd allow for a same-sex relationship in a cartoon.

Number 1 was pretty good! Why does Noh-Varr suck? Lol he seemed fun in this issue.

Really? I thought the issue overall was kinda weak. Most annoying was...

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Billy going and messing with time streams like that. It never ends well when you pull someone out of the reality they belong in.

I might get one more issue, but if it doesn't get better I will be dropping it. I certainly didn't enjoy it as much as the new Thor or All new X-Men.

That didn't bother me too much. The Young Avengers are all in their late teens. Kate might already be in her early 20s. That's what kids do. Filthy, filthy kids.
