I don't hate the feelings/whatevers attached to the day, I just hate that it's so cliche and such a Hallmark Holiday kinda thing.

I don't hate it, I just hate certain things about it. Like how corporations use it as an excuse to bleed you dry. Or how the media tries to make it about women all the time. Like seriously, Valentine's Day is about showing love, right? So how about a woman showing love for her man?

I think that Valentine's Day is what you make it. It's a wonderful time to do something to truly express how much you care about your significant other. What ruins it are the "Hallmark" cliches and greedy stereotypes portrayed in the media.

A friend - girl - told me that years ago. "Don't buy a girl flowers on some day that 'you're suppose to'." If you care about her, treat each day like it could be your last."


Ironically - that friend IS THE HARDEST TO PLEASE on VDay.

So I buy her fake flowers. . she gets a kick out of it.

This is the first year I've been single on Valentine's Day. I've always enjoyed doing something nice for my girlfriend but it's really just a vapid , commercial holiday. No good couple really need's a valentine day. I don't despise it though.

I read an article about mistakes made on Valentine's Day in terms of stereotypical things that Yahoo thinks many men do wrong. I dislike those types of articles, but this one stood out as a rather good point:

The most important thing is to set aside time to talk about things that aren't "important." "Have a 10-minute conversation with your partner about anything besides kids, work, money, or domestic responsibilities," says Orbuch. "I found that the '10 Minute Rule,' practiced daily, increases intimacy, bonding, and happiness." Take a drive or rent the movie you watched on your first date: external triggers that don't cause stress can help take you back to the way you were before your everyday lives trumped romance.

I'm sure if I had a significant other, I would feel differently about it. That being said, I still think it has turned into a hallmark holiday and used as an excuse to bankrupt you. You should be showing love to those you care about throughout the year...not just one day a year.

I dunno, I had never had a girlfriend, so I had never actually celebrated a valentine's day in a romantic manner.

I mean, in México, we celebrate valentine as the day of love and friendship, and you can just say "happy Valentine's" and give a hug, and never worry about buying presents or the like.

I guess it all changes when you are in a relationship.

I do the same thing every valentine's day: stuffed animal, flowers, balloons, and card.

Yeah it's kinda my own fault the holiday is weak, but I resent being forced to be romantic becauses of a rubber stamped event every year.

Also I feel goofy as hell trying to be romantic on "designated romantic day". Those moments are best when their spontaneous.

As much of a bitter b**** as I come across sometimes, I have a big romantic streak. I get emotionally invested in couples I like in movies or TV shows, I'm into cuddling, saying "I love you" every time I meet up with the person, etc. So I don't have anything against the actual sentiment, but Valentine's Day is completely commercialized to sell Hallmark cards and has the side effect of obnoxiously throwing their single status in the face of everyone who's not in a relationship and making them feel like there's something pathetic about them.

I don't have a burning hatred for Valentine's Day but I just hate that some people think it's the only time of year to show their significant other that they love them. Uhh hello shouldn't that be EVERYDAY?

Also, I enjoy Valentines. Sure it's a commercial holiday, but most are. I look at Valentines as a challenge to be creative and do something special for someone in a way they wouldn't expect.
