While I'm excited that IM3 will be adapting the Extremis storyline from the comics, and visually it is one of the better IM suits in history, I'm concerned that the audience may find the whole nanotechnology and the fact that the suit is stored inside Stark's body to be too much of a fantasy to be taken seriously. IM has always grounded more in reality, even though if you take a look at his suits they are anything but realistic, and Extremis will pretty much launch the franchise into a more Star Trek-esque realm of believability. I think having specialized machinery to "dress up" Stark with the suit has always been a thrill to see on the big screen, but with the nanotechnology Stark can suit up anytime and anywhere he wants, which the audience will either be interested to see or unable to accept the new armor within the context of the MCU.
I just hope Black and RDJ will make sure to give us an IM movie that we will be excited about again, unlike IM2 which despite its financial success just wasn't a particularly well-made movie.

Something that many people posting on this site flat out ignore. It's a vocal minority on the internet that refuse to let Iron Man 2 go. We all get that it wasn't as good as it maybe should be or as great as the original. That being said, it still was pretty good if we are comparing it to other superhero movies. For such a horrible movie, how did it get a 74% Fresh rating on RT? With how hard these sorts of movies are judged, that's pretty impressive. Not to mention the movie making $620 million non-3D at the box office and selling the amount of DVD/BluRay that it did.

often sequels ride on the success of their fore-bearers. the audience doesn't know if they like it going in. they can only base their participation on the past film, any changes to cast and crew, word of mouth and reviews. IM2 isn't horrible but it has more problems than any other marvel studios film. i think the blame for the problems is misplaced often tho.

Extremis is going to a be a great story for IM3. I want this movie to actually feel like a science fiction story (not a superhero film) and make great use of the nanomachine angle. Perhaps even some elements of horror with science creating a monster. Nanomachines will someday make science fiction reality. They can do great things for society but can also made into some horrific weapons. The Extremis virus is a good example. I like to see the technology be at the center of the movie, similar to the fictional dream technology in Inception.

If this is truly Marvel's worst, then things are looking good for the future. Al this movie needed was a more solid plot. Everything else was nearly perfect about the movie. Acting, CGI, humor, action, dialouge, etc.

i think if they showed tony having a real bad hangover/identity crisis rather than chilling with donuts it could have changed the whole film thematically. he's ill, he's drinking, he's letting others take up what other wise would be his responsibilities, then we need to see him broken and at rock bottom. probably would have solidified his arc for people who can't read between the lines as well.

I wish this scene would have had Tony in public rather than in his house. I recall an issue during Civil War where he talks about being drunk in the suit and nearly killing civilians. The villain he was fighting actually had to rescue them! Something like that would have been a hell of alot more interesting. That being said, there are so many scenes in the movie that are among the best in the genre. The Senate hearing scene, the Whiplash/Stark Expo opening, the racetrack fight, and the final part of the movie with the drone attack. Had the middle of the movie been a bit more solid, I don't think we would have having this discussion.

i don't want to speak ill of the dead about the djay in the ironman warmachine fight but the tone it set didn't jive with the script . it wasn't up to him anyway.
i think the race track fight was great but can't be compared with the greatest because of it's length. shame one of the best moments in it (suiting up with the suitcase armour) was so well know to us all from trailers.

Whatever IM3 loses in terms of domestic box office it will more than make up for in Chinese box office. Filming in China + starring Andy Lau in a heroic role = Huge, Huge hit in China.

So we've got Pearce, Chastain, Lau, RDJ, and potentially Kingsley all as scientists in this? I don't know exactly the plot of Extremis but that sounds interesting...

^ Where is it stated that Andy Lau is in this movie? I don't see any reports of that.

In a interview linked by the other site, Scarlett stated that she won't be appearing in IM3.

Well, I signed up to be an extra. We'll see if I get to be in the movie. There were lots of people there. Many kept talking about becoming famous thanks to it. Made me want to bang my head against a wall.

After re-reading 'Extremis' yeah this has got to be the third movie and I highly believe Guy Pearce is Malen re-named. Ben Kingsley, now don't count me on this, may be a twisted form of Yinsen. The thing that sold it to me is: "You're the nightmare vision of who I could have been if I didn't know how to use what was given to me." THAT? Is coming full-circle. It finishes one-arc then opens it up for another and I'm betting RDJ, like Hugh, is in this for as many movies as they can make.
