Yeah, Daredevil will likely end up sitting on the same shelf that's being occupied by the Punisher, Blade, and others.

You do know that this applies to Fox every bit as much you presume it does to Marvel?

o please... it's only been1 year since marvel acquired Blade, and 2 years since Punisher came back to marvel... and only 4 years since War Zone. Marvel's a baby company.. but it's growing fast.. especially with Ant-Man being their first "3-films in a year" movie... this trend will likely continue, otherwise each year all we will get is sequels.

Slade's been off the movie for a while now, Joe Carnahan was the current director.

Not in this particular case. Carnahan's take on a 1973 DD was loved by Fox (as stated in his own Tweet today), and they were ready to roll, but Fox isn't ready to gamble and play hardball with Marvel Studios over FF rights. So the trade is in --- Fox gives up DD, in return for keeping FF for a chance to reboot the franchise.

Anyway, as glad as I am to hear that Marvel has, basically, the entirety of Marvel Knights on their roster now, I am anxious to see what they do with that. Their current game plan seems to revolve around the "all-stars" of the Avengers and Avenger-related "four color" MCU. But they've now got a ton of "benchwarmer" street level heroes who could generate new and different (read: urban, ethnic, hipster, multicultural, artsy, realist, more mature) audiences, and it would be a HUGE mistake for Marvel to just sit them.

Way I see it, there's one of two proper plays for Marvel here:

1) Move the street level heroes to TV, and don't worry about feature films. The series (singular, or plural) can be developed on the cheap, since most of them are essentially crime dramas, chop-sockey kung fu joints, and street-justice vigilante actioners. You can develop a TON more characters in a TV series over a season of 16 or so episodes than you can in a big budget 2-hour feature film.

2) Create a substudio, a sort of "Fox Searchlight" subsidiary, that essentially develops the Marvel Knights into lower budget (say, 30 millon or so --- Arad and Feige's original plan was to add films of exactly that level to the MCU) films. In essence, Marvel Studios proper continues to release their 2-3 tentpoles per year, as advertised, while "Marvel Knights Studios" can drop maybe 2-4 "quickie" lower budget, smaller scale action films scattered into the off-season, to show how the MCU is progressing at street level.

Yeah, RIGHT. They're interested at Carnahan's take NOW that the rights are about to revert, but I bet that if they got their extension they'd string him along until he quit, just like they did with Slade. What happened to that script that they were so high on and were just finding a director for?

Guys, Saitou was making an ironic, sarcastic post in reference of another poster who seemed to know it all regarding Ed Norton, Avengers, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, and Fox.

Based on the time frame from Daredevil and Elektra, they probably have at least another 2 years if not longer.

I managed to do a compilation of all his delightful zingers on the DD thread. Ah... good times.

They say on this site that the guy who directed Chronicle is directing the Reboot. But let's prey that Mickey Mouse works some of his magic.

Nothing personal against "Josh Trank", hell Chronicle was better than most of Fox's comic book movies. So why not bring him and F4 back to Marvel. He'll certainly have better resources there.

To be fair: any director in their right mind would've done the same. Given the choice between a reboot of a comic book B-lister whose first movie didn't exactly light up the box office a decade ago versus the chance to direct Mads as one of the most iconic fictional villains of all time....

no-brainer

Well I'm not blaming him for jumping ship. However I do question the wisdom of doing a Hannibal TV series considering how crappy the Silence of The Lambs gravy train has been with that Hannibal Rising prequel.

I don't think thats going to happen. They will probably rush Fantastic Four now because of this.

I'd be totally happy if the only other rights they manage to snag back are the Fantastic Four. They fit so well with current MCU and in addition to the rest of the marvel characters they own, they'd have more than enough material to last a good decade or two. On a separate note, I think i'd be awesome for Marvel to launch a sub-division for their Marvel Knight films. Blade, Daredevil, Punisher and (hopefully in due time) Ghostrider all sharing a pocket of the MCU? Count me in.

I'd say it had more to do with money and maybe just wanting to work.

It's never been made public how many years it is for Sony. I guess we'll find out when Ghost Rider reverts back...and it will.
I think the deals go by property not studio. Given how Fox releases a new X-Men film every 3 years without fail regardless of whether it needs to be or is connected to the original series, I'd say their expiration date on that is around every 4-5 years if a movie is not made.

Spider-Man probably has a similar deal given the reports that Sony just barely managed to meet the deadline with TASM and would explain why they rebooted it after only 4 years.

What surprises me about the Daredevil thing is that Fox had already apparently been granted 2 extensions. I wonder if those were before the Disney buyout. Was Disney/Marvel OK with it because they just didn't have any aims or designs for Daredevil at the time?
