My seat was just a few rows from where he was for 21 Guns. Watching him lose it at the end breaks my heart.

Saw Priscilla last night. Amazing.

So far this is one of the best seasons I've experienced. Excited for the Tonys!

Yeah, I saw it in Toronto. It's a lot of fun, but I still harbour a prejudice against jukebox musicals. But it was great for what it was.

I tried the lottery for that tonight. Holy ****, that was a madhouse. And I didn't win, obviously, so I think I'm going to go the regular ticket route for this. Need to see it.

I tried lotto for Mormon last Saturday. MADHOUSE is an understatement!

Lost, of course.

I got there at 5:30 and the line was all the way down the block, it was insane. And there was a long line in the box office just for regular tickets. Craziness.

I don't think I've ever heard of a ticket lottery. Is it a New York thing?

Kind of an old school thing, but me and my hag are going to see The Fantasticks on Tuesday. It's a show I've always wanted to see.

That's all I keep hearing, I can't wait to see it.

Rent started it, I believe. Originally, back when it first opened, they sold the first two rows for $20 per ticket two hours before every show. But the show was so popular when it first opened that people started camping out the night before and it got a little crazy. I did the line twice - the first time we got there at 4am (for tickets that went on sale at 6pm), and the second time we got there before the show started the night before. And by lunchtime the next day, people started showing up for the next day's matinee.

Obviously that got to be out of control, the cops wanted it shut down, the store on the corner of 41st St wanted it gone, plus they had the problem of the same group of Rentheads taking up the same spots on the line over and over again (one guy did it over 100 times)...so they switched it to a lottery.

Basically how a lottery works is that you show up 2-1/2 hours before the show starts and enter your name and how many tickets you need (1 or 2) and they draw the names out of a bucket or a lotto thing. That keeps people from camping out at the theater, and it gives everyone an even chance to have access to the cheaper rush seats (Wicked and American Idiot's lotto seats are $27 each, Book of Mormon is $32).

I've actually won the Rent lottery 15 times - only most of the time I gave up the tickets because I put my name in for friends who wanted to go. I won for Adam Pascal's (original) last show, which was really cool. I won at Wicked once too.

My lotto luck has been rotten lately, though. I've lost at Book of Mormon tonight, at American Idiot twice, at Hair twice, and once at Rock of Ages.

It's a great way to get cheap seats...the only downside is when 300+ people show up and there are only 20 seats available. Your chance of winning is not so good when that happens.

The night we camped out at Rent was a lot of fun. We had a watergun fight out on 41st St with the ushers while the show was going on the night before.

The last time I waited on line for Rent rush seats was in London. And nearly everyone on line was American. In fact, we ran into a guy who we met when we saw Rent in Chicago a few months earlier.

Ditto! So since I've re-discovered it...

I'm planning a trip to NYC over July 4th weekend, and I was gonna check out How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Catch Me If You Can. But now I'm super-worried that Aaron Tveit (and possibly Norbert Leo Butz) will have left CMIYC by then, as they're THE reasons I want to see it. I know DanRad's with H2$ 'till November, so I'm not worried about that one. But those two (especially Aaron, who left Next to Normal in June '09, when it opened in April just like CMIYC)? I have no idea how long they're supposed to be there. Already preparing for disappointment.

Catch Me if You Can just started previews, so I have to imagine Aaron and Norbert are still in the show.

I finally caught up to the 25th Anniversary Les Miz concert...loved it, with the exception of the bizarre miscasting of Nick Jonas as Marius.
