Just got cast as Gonzolo in The Tempest. It's been a long time since I've played a "good guy".

I won't even read the reviews. In fact, I'm glad there are no video press clips out there to watch yet. I want to know as little as possible before I see it to avoid overhyping it.

That being said, I can't wait to see it.

If I lived in NYC, I'd probably go broke buying theater tickets.

When I first started working in NYC, show tickets ran about $75 at the highest, which at the time there was no way we could afford them, so we were always getting by with rush tickets and lotteries and student discounts.

Today I can totally afford $75 tickets...but now those same seats cost about $130-$150.

I saw Wonderland Today. Oh boy.

Seems like the rest of the audience hated it as much as I did. I've never before seen a show where hardly anyone laughs at the jokes, anyone claps at the end of a number, and people have to be told to stand up at the curtain call.

So many talented actors in this show, and they're all wasted on sophomoric material. I mean, the writing is beyond terrible. I felt like I was watching a High School performance of a Broadway show.

The music is nice.. nothing exciting or catchy, but it's weighed down by cringe worthy lyrics.

I know I've mentioned shows I don't like before in this thread, but sweet Jesus this is different. I would see any of those other shows a million times before seeing Wonderland again. And, I would NEVER wish any of my friends to have to endure what I did today. It's THAT bad.

It's my favorite song in the show too. But Nick... Michael Ball's appearance at the end was better than anything Nick did for the entire show.

Alfie Boe was amazing, I loved his Bring Him Home. That's just one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

I saw Norm Lewis as Javert the last time Les Miz was in NY. He was incredible.

I have such a crush on Rami after that.

Enjolras is my favorite character in Les Miz.

Good God, Nick Jonas was bad.

Love those clips of How to Succeed. Can't wait to see it in a few months.

Something I've never understood is why don't they record an entirety of a musical and put it on DVD once the show's run is over, a'la Cats? It would make it so those who are less rich can see it and it would put extra money in people's pockets.

Because it actually WOULDN'T be worth it, from a financial stand point, most of the time.

They seem to be doing more of it with the movie theater events, like they did with Rent, the Les Miz concert, and Memphis. Plus Legally Blonde aired on MTV, didn't it?

But it's true, financially it's not really worth it. What it would cost to do it wouldn't make the money back in the long run for most shows. Plus, a lot of these shows tour, and they'd likely lose ticket sales if people were just buying the DVDs instead.

Myself and many Potter fans are dying to see Dan in "How to Succeed" but lack the ability. This would be a great one to do that with. It'd make bookoo bucks.

Certain musicals aka the ones that long healthy long runs and leave a mark on Broadway certainly should have a DVD in my opinion or at least a theatrical release for a couple nights like Rent did with it's final show.

But if it's something that while it might have been good, but only lasted for a couple months or a year or two, then it probably shouldn't get one. Like while I adored Legally Blonde, should it really have a DVD/theatrical release?

A movie theater near me shows a different stage production on screen every month or so.

They do record all the shows professionally, for archiving purposes. And I think they store them at the Lincoln Center or some other theater institution in NYC. But it's the distribution of them that gets tricky. From what I understand, it would cost them a lot because of the talent involved (as royalties are not part of their contracts, so they'd have to work out new deals with everyone involved). The ones that ARE distributed on home video are usually the ones that were assembled for that purpose (like the concert versions or the final RENT), and the people who participate work out the legal stuff ahead of time. Why they don't build it into all contracts initially just in case the show is successful enough for it, I really don't understand.

I like how concerts are being sold more. I love my Chess concert itunes video. I'm sure I'll get the Les Mis, despite the Jonas brother.
