Default rumor: revised xbone controller in the works

-courtesy of gaf

Quote:
Microsoft's Xbox One got off to a rough start thanks to a mixed message about the target audience for the device. With that issue behind them, they have returned their focus to the gaming community and now sources are telling us that they are looking to launch a 'hardcore' game controller at E3 2015.

Details are still slim on what all will be included with the controller and how it will be differentiated from its current devices but they are going after their loyal customers who love FPS and driving games. If you need any proof that there is a market for a new controller, take a look at Scuf Gaming who sells a plethora of modified enthusiast controllers.

We are being told that the current target, if the project gets the full green-light, will be for E3 2015 which takes in mid June. As with all internal projects, deadlines are subject to change and they can be canceled at anytime.

I bought my Scuf controller for Advanced Warfare and it helps alot. Added trigger stops and 2 paddles on the underside of the controller. It cost me about 70 bucks on top of the cost of the controller. I think the workmanship is good, but I absolutely would buy a Microsoft controller of the same style just for a sense of security that it's their parts. I've never had an issue with Xbox Controllers outside of the good ol' duke's size back in the day.

Scuf is absolutely cleaning up and MS certainly want a piece of that pie. I'm excited to see what they cook up.

Interesting. I kind of want to try out a scuf controller now.

Too expensive as is. Though I understand why since they're made in such small quantities.

I have a Scuf. I like it, but I just find the X1 controller to be pretty abysmal. Hopefully a new controller will have more resistance in the sticks, and the bumpers to be more competent. I would also love a better mold, as the X1 controller is too small for me. I loved the way the 360 and S controllers felt. Still not a fan of the Duke and X1, though. We'll see, hopefully this isn't a carbon copy of the X1 controller with paddles on the back.

How about a responsive D-pad that doesn't wear out? That's all I want.

I find this odd because even though I have never liked xbox controllers it seemeds like people have always loved them and never really complained about them at all.

The 360 controller is considered by some to be the greatest gamepad of all time.

I think the xbone controller is great, I just hate the bumpers. Dualshock 4's got the best bumpers in the business.

It's not really the result of complaints, it's MS' response to what custom controller companies like Scuf make off of MS' controller. In addition how games evolve and gamers desire a controller that can give them an edge.

I do not miss the days of the playstation controllers. After long gaming periods I'd get welts on the inside of my middle fingers and my thumbs would cramp something awful.

Vast no. But the 360's was many people's all time favourite. The change from the DS3 to 4 was far more significant.

That is why I find this odd. People love the controllers and like never complain about them so why come out with a new one then?

Games evolve. If I have to take my thumb off the stick to hit the jump button, those are milliseconds that I'm not aiming at another target.

In past iterations, controllers have been altered to make it so you can knife or quickly go prone without taking your thumb off the stick, now with games like Titanfall and Advanced Warfare it's almost a necessity to be at your highest capacity. Other companies have been creative, and have made a killing selling to a small part of the market. MS clearly sees big potential for gains by offering a controller with additional button layouts. It's really that simple.

While yeah but they never really did this and really you don't really see revised controllers like ever just the smaller conslers so really this would be like a first. Ps3, ps2, ps1, xbox 360, xbox ect never really made revised controllers before.

Actually the PS3 had two controllers (the SIXAXIS and the DS3), so did the Xbox (the Fatty / Duke and the Controller S).

Supposedly the Xbox controller changed because the Duke was too big for Japanese Xbox owners (the Controller S was introduced only in Japan initially, and then became available in other territories, and then completely replaced the Duke due to popular demand).

Oh ok yeah forgot about the ps3 Sixaxis and the D3 but they looked 100% the same so they didn't change up the buttons or the size of any thing but the DS3 brought back the rumble. I never heard about xbox coming out with revised controllers at all. Fatty/duck and the controller s?

The Duke. Here is a comparison.

If you got the Xbox late, you might have never seen one.

A lot of people believe the Duke was directly inspired by the Dreamcast, because Microsoft worked with SEGA on the Dreamcast. The Xbox was nearly made backwards compatible with the Dreamcast. You can sort of see the lineage.

Yeah, those Saturn and Dreamcast controllers were bigger, but they were much more comfortable. I remember playing on a Mad Catz controller until they finally released the S.
